This block is beautiful and I am happy with it. The only problem is that it is not very versatile. You are limited to an 8 inch chef's knife and a thin 8 or 9 inch knife on top (I have the chef's knife and a 9" carving knife). Two thin 6 or 8 inch knifes in the middle (I have a 6" carving knife and an 8" bread knife). On the bottom, only two small knifes no bigger than 5 inches will fit (I have a 3 1/2" paring and a 5" serrated utility). I would have liked to have put a 6" boning knife in bottom row instead of the utility knife but it would not fit due to its thick bolster and the block's narrow slots.
