Great knife! Buy the whole set.

I recently purchased a set of 6 of these knives, and I couldn't be happier. We were originally considering Global and Wusthof Culinar knives, but once holding those and then these, we decided these were the knives for us.

Their unusual design is not only stylish, but functional. The wider handle design makes them easy to hold onto, even when your hands are wet or greasy. (Not the case with the other two.) The knives are also heavy and extremely well balanced, giving you a solid feel when you cut through something. Finally, they are forged out of just one piece of metal, so there are no seams (like on the Wusthof Culinar line) between the handle and the blade, making them a breeze to clean up with a little soapy water. (As with all good knives, they should never be put in the dishwasher.)

This bread knife cuts through soft or hard bread with ease. It is so sharp that I think it will be a long time before it needs sharpening. (For comparison, I use some of the other knives in my set every day, have had them for 3 months, and I'm just thinking of sharpening for the first time soon.)

I really don't think you could go wrong with this knife.

Functional as well as beautiful

I purchased this knife to add to my set of chroma type 301 knives. I was already sold on this line after my first purchase of the 10" chef knife. I love the angle of this knife, It adds comfort due to the upwardly inclined handle and allows you to chop quite quickly. It is well worth the price and I will continue to purchase the rest of the set. Super quality tool.

Fantastic all-purpose mini chef's knife

Chroma is certainly not your traditional knife brand- I have Wusthof and Henckels knives as well... but this is my favorite. Generally speaking, this line of knives has a great feel in your hand and is razor sharp. Don't use a regular steel on these guys- use a ceramic steel. But you will be pleasantly surprised about what a pleasure these are to use.As for this knife in particular, it's on the small side to be your all purpose chef's knife, but it works great for smaller fruits and vegetables.

The Chroma knives look very cool - as with anything designed by F.A. PorscheThey feel great in the hand (much better thean featherlight Global knives) with a certain 'heft' to them.I bought this santuko knife, the 'duo' color block and a few other knives.Even friends who are typically unimpressed with my purchases of expensive items had to comment that they worked very well.bear in mind: NEVER put in the dishwasher and always dry thoroughly - this is not because they are low quality, it is because the blade is made of high-carbon steel for sharpness

Dang good knife

I was informed about these knives from a friend who had returned from Cordon Bleau in Paris...skeptical and with money burning a hole in my pocket, i ordered one.love.this.knife.ive heard people online complain about it not holding an edge, but being a professional chef, i sharpen my knives daily.using the "pearl" keeps my grip, and i have never had a problem with slippage.only issue i have is keeping my staff's grubby mitts off it.interested how the rest of these knives measure up as well.

Usable knife but not sure if the form fits the function.

I really wanted to like this knife. I tried researching and watched YouTube videos to see what it looked like and it has an incredibly gorgeous look to it that sort of made me blinded to the functionality.I am not a culinary chef by any means but cook regularly at least once or twice a day at home; not making any grilled cheese sandwiches or anything like that but full course meals for the family. I do lots of vegetable and fruit preparation in general and I have a Cutco knife that has stood the test of time but I wanted to give this one a try. First off; the packaging in the wooden box and the whole allure of it is fantastic. Makes it sort of like Christmas morning opening the package. The knife itself did not let me down aesthetically, it's also great that you can stand it up by itself.. not really sure what that does for functionality but it looks cool nonetheless.The blade is THIN; I mean, I could probably bend it easily if I tried hard enough with just my hands. This is the only reason why I returned it; but the blade also sticks easily to garlic and fresh herbs that are cut up. However, I would have overlooked that if the blade wasn't so thin. I tried chopping up some ginger that wasn't even that hard and the blade bent under the pressure and whipped back straight after the cut which scared me a bit. Maybe I am using it incorrectly and this is the first 10 inch blade I've used, I usually use 8 inch ones so maybe that is a problem too. I should go smaller; but because of this, the knife would not serve my purposes in the kitchen. It would be great for soft vegetables and it was indeed very sharp out of the box which was nice but I just need more strength in the blade so this did not make the cut; pun intended.Overall, I might try their other knives and see if they work out but this one left me a bit disappointed. Especially since most of the reviews on here just state that they went to Culinary school and they loved it so it makes me feel like I am a noob and did something wrong perhaps but oh well, I'll be sticking with my old trusty Cutco knife for now.

How to make a daughter happy

I bought this knife as a Christmas present for my daughter. We had attended a knife course at a local chain in Chicago and had the chance to use several high quality kitchen knives. This particular knife (and the whole set) is outstanding for women who don't have large wrists and forearms for cutting all day. It's lightweight, well balanced and has no hiding place for food residue. The blade is razor thin and razor sharp. It should be cleaned immediately after use and returned to safe storage. It would be easy to get a severe cut just from a glancing touch of the blade. It is also easy to thin-slice 10 pounds of potatoes and 2 pounds of sweet potatoes in record time and without breaking a sweat. I'm a long-time Santoku fan but I'm happy to play with the Chromas anytime. If I wasn't old already, these would be my lifetime knives, even though I think they're ugly. Ah, well...

Really sturdy and can take a big load, great deal for the cost

I do not have mission stlye furniture in my home. So I did not order this unit because it matched my decor. I ordered it because it was hands down the sturdiest unit I could find after doing about 4 hours of comparing different units on different sites.I was not disappointed, I have this shelf loaded to the gils and it takes the load like it is made of iron. For the money it is the best. In addition even though mission is not my style this unit is totally finished front, back, sides, top and bottom in a very desirable color of wood, very fine finish and finished on all edges, nicely rounded shelf edges all added to make this a very attractive unit that would fit well in a country decor , mission, and less formal more comfy laid back feel. Great unit at a decent price. Would buy again.

Honey Oak??

I just unpacked and put together the first of two of these shelves. I would bet money that these are NOT made of oak but are just a honey oak color. I wonder what kind of wood it is? Still, it looks pretty nice, went together in just over an hour and will serve my purpose. I feel like I was duped though. Description leads one to believe that the "Hardwood and hardwood veneer construction" is oak. Being something other than oak and made in Thailand, they might not be such a good value after all.

Don't forget the lip

For the purposes of full disclosure, I had some problems which customer service did a marvelous job of solving.The bookcases are solid wood - no particle board. The color was somewhat different than anticipated, but the color works.The top of the bookcase has a shelf which extends beyond the sides of the bookcase. While this is clearly shown in every picture of the bookcase, I missed it. My four bookcases are side by side resulting in a gap of a couple of inches between bookcases.The bookcases are solid and don't move. Because of the mission style, they are easy to move.

Good Product, Good Price

I don't have much to add to all the other 5-star reviews. This is good quality shelf, the back braces give it a lot of support so it's not wobbly or spindly. It's pretty, the beveled shelves were a nice touch that brings it above the average put-together furniture.Instructions could have been a bit clearer, because it took some problem solving to figure out how the beveled edges should face (up or down), finally realized they were finished better on the top side (but not much, the whole thing is well finished).And yes, the color is more orange than one would expect from Honey Oak. If they toned that down, it would be perfect.

Received early and in perfect condition. Easy assembly. Looks like it would not be very strong or stable but once assembled it is a very solid piece. Goes well with other mission pieces I have purchased from Amazon. I like it and am very pleased.
