    3great exterior, shoddy interior
    By Dadaist
Made purchase of these NS-6490's on clearance from the 'shack in fall 2009 and I'm glad I did. Probably not worth current retail prices but grab them on markdown if you can. The exterior is beautiful even with the glaring white woofers. The speaker has the required heft to dampen the 8" woofer, and the range should be smooth with the choice of provided driver sizes. Unfortunately we consumers just won't know what it is capable of until it gets a decent crossover. Inside you will find no acoustic fill, which by itself isn't unexpected in a design at this pricepoint. However, there is no effective crossover. there are instead 2 capacitors acting as bass blockers for the 4" mid and the tweeter glued to the back of the terminal cup and the 8" woofer runs full range. In a larger woofer this may not be a problem as the voice coil simply wouldn't drive higher frequencies; here it is. Budget for acoustic fill and a proper crossover, or run a new terminal cup and bi-amp with eq's. I didn't take the other reviews seriously about the lack of bass, chocking it up to the sealed design. Stock levels are woeful for the woofer and box size. I'm hoping some acoustic fill will round out the bottom end a little until I can get a decent set of crossovers.

    5New Yamaho 3-Way Bookshelf NS 6490
    By James Capolino
WOW! What an outstanding product. They handle tons of power, it can output a lot of bass without distortion and the overall sound is exceptional for the price and size. Using as FRONT speakers in my setup. Sound clarity is also very good.

2Not what they used to be! Beware!
    By Adam Sanders
If your looking for GOOD Bookshelf speakers for playing MUSIC...(WEATHER ON CD OR VINYL). PASS ON THESE YAMAHA'S!Ok,So I'm on a budget, (like most these days) and my 15 year old Yamaha (NS-A635) bookshelf speakers have served me well, but have had it. What do I do??? Well logically, buy another (supposedly) comparable pair of Yamaha bookshelf speakers, the (NS-6490's) to be exact. I live in a condo, and when it comes to sound, I need quality not quantity. Excited to receive them, I hook them up and immediately notice the "sparkle" of my old vinyl records are now replaced with a "hallow tinny" sound. The warmth and detail of the Yamaha's I knew so well is gone. I understand at this price point I'm not going to be dazzled, but the sound quality on these new model Yamaha's is simply AWFUL! While my old Yamaha's were made using wood laminate, Yamaha now uses a cheap plastic to construct these. Frustrated, I lug them back to the Post Office, and after endless research, conversations, and weeks of research; I've been convinced that a pair of Polk Audio bookshelf speakers, (the RTiA1's) to be exact, will trump the Yamaha's. At over double the price, (around $300 Dollars or so for the pair), I'm expecting nothing less...so I wait.A week later the Polk's arrive. Upon unpacking them I'm immediately impressed. Polk Audio sure makes a nice product, real wood cabinets, handsome design, etc... Upon playing them, (I know there is a break in period involved), while detailed, there is NO SPARKLE. That is, the high end sounds "subdued" and not crisp. Even upon increasing the treble response, (while still warm sounding) vocals still sound "muffled," cymbals and other percussion instruments have the missing clarity and punch that I'm used to with Analog recordings. The same clarity that my old Yamaha bookshelf speakers had. After about a week of lackluster performance, I head back to my friends at the Post Office and return the Polk's.Finally, upon more research, I'm convinced that the Klipsch (RB-51) bookshelf speakers will deliver what I'm looking for. While slightly pricier than the Polk's, I'm determined to at least replace, if not excel my old Yamaha's sonic sparkley sound, (incidentally, they sold for around $100 a pair not that long ago). Upon quickly receiving the Klipsch (RB-51) bookshelf speakers I'm immediately impressed. The weight, build quality, cool magnetic grills, and copper colored woofers, are attractive. After hookup, I drop the needle on Billy Joel's Piano Man, (MOFI edition)Lp. In short, they are FANTASTIC!!! It was like Billy was almost playing in my living room. The KLIPSCH speakers had the clarity and detail that the POLK's and Yamaha's lacked. No need to crank the treble response up anymore. In short the Klipsch (RB-51) bookshelf speakers are bright, (not harsh), detailed, warm and sonic. All things considered, I can honestly say they are simply FANTASTIC!!!In short, save yourself the time and trouble with these, (Yamaha's), and spend the extra money for a quality set of speakers. The difference, (even with moderate equipment) will be ASTOUNDING!On a final note, Yamaha still builds some FANTASTIC stuff, but in this case you most certainly get what you pay for.Adam SandersAudio Enthusiast

    5Great Conversation Starter
    By Tunicamom
Bought one of these for my pilot husband. EVeryone loves it. So quiet. Doesn't hum or wobble at all. The nose light sets it off. A little pricey but the positive comments are worth it.Have had this product for 4 years now and it still works and looks as good as the day we put it up. And we're still getting lots of compliments on the originality of it. Highly recommend this product.

    5My Son loves it!
    By Darsonist
I bought this to replace a fairly normal looking fan in my Son's bedroom. He loves it!Installation was easy and they supply all the parts you need. The instructions are good and everything worked first time.My only small complaint is the price - it's not a high-tech item, you are paying for the design. Having said that I'm so pleased with it that I will probably buy a similar one for the game room.

    5Everything I expected and more
    By experience matters
My son has a plane theme'd room and had an old more girly ceiling fan. Santa delivered this gift for him before Xmas even though the order was not placed until the Saturday before. What a relief. I finally installed concerned it would be a big headache...But to my surprise it was very easy and straight forward. Everything worked like a charm, and it looks absolutely terrific. Summary - - if you are interested, buy it....it's everything you hope it is...not cheasy at all, and looks very very cool. Wish I had one when I was a kid!

4Great entry level keyboard and great price
    By S. VALE
This instrument is probably the best buy one can get for way under a grand (no pun intended). It includes some really nice sounds, especially the piano sounds, the organ sounds and the flute sounds.

It has some really nice features and bells and whistles (both literally and figuratively) including very good touch. It is not fully weighted, but is still pretty good.

The only problems I have with it is the weight, which prevents it from being totally portable and the tinny sounding speakers. But this are nit picks because both can be overcome easily enough and what you do get more than offsets the losses.

If you want a keyboard that can do a lot of things, has a lot of great pre-set sounds, is pretty nice looking and can be used either for an inexpensive home piano or as a gigging instrument and with a bench, a stand, and way to record your music as well as being useful as a learning instrument, this is the one. it is fully MIDI ready and has a lot more that I have not yet scratched the surface of. And all for way under a thousand dollars.

I don't think there is anything better for an all-in-one keyboard for this level of expense. A great deal, an excellent instrument.

    5Extraordinary
    By A. Tiongson
I have owned this piano for about a year now. I just have to say, this is a very sophisticated piano that suits both beginners and master pianists. It is capable to emulate the sounds of a grand piano (hence the name) and even comes with its own wooden bench and stand (wood does seem to sound anti-modern, but yamaha designed it to look very attractive plus the piano is modern-looking and attractive enough itself). One downside to it would be the weight. It is very heavy and you would be turned off to carry it around. I myself do not see this as a downside because I intend to leave it in one secure place in my house. The price is appropriate for beginners who want to take piano seriously and master pianists who are looking for a low-priced, high quality keyboard. As you can see, the technical specs for this keyboard are outstanding and the price is just right. I recommend this item to all piano players.technical note: if you are looking for a pro quality keyboard with hammer-weighted keys (which means the keys have a real-piano feel), I recommend the Yamaha S90 88-Key Synthesizer. I recommend this because my piano teacher uses this portable piano in his studio because of its sound and he would not recommend anything else.

    5Great value, surprisingly durable
    By sd
I've owned this piano for several years now and love it. Then it flew out of the back of a truck this past week and it looked like it was history--several keys had popped up in addition to some bumps and scratches. When I got it home and plugged it in, everything other than the popped keys seemed to be working so I had some hope. I took it apart and found it quite easy to put the keys back correctly, and now it is working perfectly again. It has lots of great features for the price. I especially like the 6 track recording capability and the large variety of instruments. It's loud enough for normal use (too loud when some of my kids play it), and when I use it to accompany church choir practice I plug it in to my stereo receiver to amp it up. When it does finally die someday, I'll definitely replace it with a similar model.

5A battle tank, if you would.
    By A Customer
I have had this grill for three years. It has been used almost daily for two seasons. Twice, I dropped the lid chipping the porscelin. It has been relocated by careless movers once. It still survives and is completely functional. Not only that, no parts have rusted on it. If I order a...lid, it will look like it just came out of the box.

Maintenance is easy. In fact, if the grill is emptied thoroughly, the ash catcher can be used to hold the rinse water if you are unable to clean it outside (you do have to empty it often). I have, in fact, cleaned this grill in my kitchen, with out much of a mess. It really hasn't been any more difficult then cleaning a regular oven.

Cooking is very even, the swing-outs on the grid make adding charcoal easy during indirect cooking. I purchased a set of rails to hold the charcoal to each side. I insert my drip pan in the middle, and then put more charcoal as needed in the grill without disturbing the food by opening up the swing-outs in the grate to add charcoal. This is a very handy feature. For direct cooking, you just place the charcoal over the bottom grid as per instructions.

The manual contains several useful recipies to get you familiar with this cooking device. I highly recommend reading it, and following its instructions. The Weber One-Touch Gold 18-1/2" is a worthwhile purchase if you are cooking for one or two people, and will more then pay for its self as compared to eating brats at the hot dog stand. Buy this grill, and you'll eat T-bones and baked potatoes for FAR less then at a steak house, for a very long time!

    5A Brilliant Design
    By A Customer
The classic Weber One-Touch charcoal grill is an example of excellent engineering and design. I recently purchased the 18 1/2" model and have found it to be very effective and easy to use.

The shape of the kettle and lid distributes heat evenly across the cooking surface. The heat can be easily controlled using the vents to allow more or less airflow. Easy to assemble. Cleanup is quick. The simplicity of the design means there is little that can break or go wrong with it.

Obviously the engineers at Weber put a lot of thought into how people will use the product and came up with a truly elegant design. Brilliant!

    5This grill is fabulous!
    By R. Prabhakara
I am no pro at grilling, but this grill makes it all so easy! It was easy to put together, easy to use, and easy to clean up. Everything I toss on it turns about perfectly grilled and absolutely yummy! There are cheaper charcoal grills out there, but if you're a petite woman, like me, who doesn't grill for a living, it is well worth the extra money for the little conveniences of this grill. I got the 18 1/2 inch grill, and it has plenty of room for preparing dinner for 4-6 adults. Since putting my grill together, I have cooked out every weekend.

5Quite an experience - but you need some patience at first
    By MartinP
As a lover of classical music I am a confirmed headphone listener. No set of speakers will offer the same amount of detail, most living rooms will add acoustic distortions, and many of us are not lucky enough to be able to play Mahler or Shostakovich at full power on a daily basis without getting into trouble with the neighbours. For years I have been very happy with the Sony CD1700, an excellent headphone which is my point of reference for evaluating the HD650. The rest of my hifi set-up consists of a Marantz cd7300 CD player, PM7200 amplifier, and Musical Fidelity X-Can v3 headphone amplifier (a mandatory commodity if you intend to spend serious money on a headphone like this one). Also, I invested in the Cardas replacement cable for the HD650.It is often said phones like this one need a 'break in' period. I used to regard this merely as snobbish audiophile technobabble - but found it to be actually true. Initially, I was less than pleased with the sound of the HD650, to put it mildly. Mid-range, mezzoforte strings (which make up a VERY large part of orchestral music!) sounded grey and weirdly disembodied. Stereo separation was exaggerated while the middle part of the soundstage seemed empty. Compared to the breezy, open sound of the Sony, the Sennheiser seemed compressed and less immediately involving.Things were not helped by the fact that the wearing comfort of these cans is markedly inferior to that of the Sony. The HD650 has fairly small shells that are not ideal if your ears aren't quite that small. Also, they are clamped against the head rather tightly, which is not entirely pleasant. The Sony, by contrast, simply lets you forget you are wearing it.But then, after about 50 hours of listening, things had changed rather much. Not with regard to the wearing comfort, obviously, though you do get used to the way the HD650 feels; - but soundwise. The sound had opened up completely; not only is it now as fresh and involving as that of the Sony, it is clearly superior. Everything is incredibly focused, tightly in place, resulting in a very clean sound picture. The bass is far superior to the Sony, and is noticeably warmer. Bass drum strokes or double bass pizzicati sound nothing short of sensational. Instrumental colours are marvellously defined throughout the orchestral ranges. The level of detail is quite simply stunning. I am not exagerrating when I say that I've heard new things in nearly every disc I played until now (in an old-time favourite, Bernstein's DG recording of Stravinsky's Les Noces, I was bowled over by the precision with which the four piano's, which had always sounded as a single instrument to me, were individually separated). Interestingly, a sense of underlying energy is retained even in the softest passages; I notice that with this headphone large scale symphonic works may sound completely satisfying even when played at fairly low volume. All in all, I am now extremely pleased with this acquisition. It is hard to imagine that headphone sound can be much better. Listening to a well-recorded disc (and beware! these cans will mercilessly reveal which discs aren't so well recorded) you can easily imagine yourself to be sitting in the concert hall.As a postscript: I am less sure about the cable issue. Many HD650 owners advise the replacement of Sennheiser's stock cable with a Cardas cable. Now, I always have the feeling that in these more esoteric regions of audiophilia, there is somewhere a point where actual sound improvements become extremely minimal, and myth or even madness set in. Yet, as I was splurging anyway, for once I went the whole hog and bought myself the Cardas cable, too. Frankly; you don't really need it. I will not go so far as to say it doesn't make a difference; it does. There is, at times, an extra sparkle to the sound. But it certainly is not a prerequisite to fully enjoy the wonders of the HD650 (quite apart from the fact that the Cardas cable is a hideously ugly thing to behold, makes the phones far more cumbersome to wear, and unlike the thinner, more supple stock cable causes contact noise).

5Excellent, but what did you expect?
    By Alex J. Avriette
So headphone.com calls them "simply the world's best headphone." I can't speak for the Grado or AKG contenders. I can say that they're better than my Sennheiser 590's, and that is shocking. Which leads me to my first (and probably most important) point about this headphone. They cost a lot. A whole lot. Sennheiser has many units, including the 580, 590, 595, 600, and 650 (among many others), which could be construed as 'reference' quality. You'll spend about half as much on one of the 5xx models as you will on the 650. So if you were to ask me whether the 650 is *twice as good* (that is to say, it costs more in proportion to its increased capability), I'll tell you no, probably not. I might just not buy them, given the decision again. Perhaps if the price came down a bit. At any rate, they are really a superb headphone. The sound is really incredible. You never really realize what you're missing in a recording until you've heard it through a set like this. You can hear the saliva in the back of a vocalist's throat. I'm not kidding. Everything is reproduced clearly, accurately, crisply, and I've yet to find any recording (Vocal, Classical, Electronic, etc) that can tax them. I suppose I'll stop trying to some day, but it's just wonderful to hear the headphones doing their job. The construction is far more solid than the 590's are. Where there is plastic on the 590, you see metal and (no kidding) Kevlar. They are more attractive. They are also quite a bit heavier. They have a 1/4" connector instead of the more customary 1/8" mini connector -- this doesn't particularly bother me, I'll get to it in a minute. Like the 590, they are an open headphone. That is, they are not "sealed" or "isolated". Sound from around you will seep in, and it is possible for others to hear what you are listening to (somewhat). They are less comfortable. My guess is because of the metal band, the "spring" mechanism that keeps them round is tighter than the 590's, and it pinches. It really feels as though somebody is compressing your head. The ear cups are fine. They are almost identical to the 590's, but a little larger. So, you probably wouldn't be here if you didn't know you needed an amplifier for these headphones (this is where the 1/4" plug comes in). However, it bears mentioning that you should not even consider buying these cans without first buying a capable amplifier. The PPA/PIMETA amps are cheapish, and Headphone.com has some that will work fine. To demonstrate this, you'll need another headphone and the 650. Connect the other headphone to your amplifier. Listen at a comfortable level. Then, relax a second, and attach the 650. The first thing you should notice is that the white noise is gone. The second thing -- other than the sound quality, of course -- is that it is much quieter. These cans need a lot of power to drive them effectively. Look at their specifications and you will understand (300 ohms of impedance!). Buy em if you want the best and aren't afraid to spend the $$. Buy the 590's or 595's if what you need is a stellar headphone and you don't want to spend too much. Use the extra money to buy yourself an amp. You'll need it.

4NOT THE BEST CHOICE FOR CLASSICAL
    By Paco Rivero
COMFORT: (Grade, B). The earcups are relatively deep, but not deep enough for ultimate comfort. Even after years of use, they don't let me forget that I have headphones on. On the other hand, the 650 feels much better than headphones with shallow cups that squash your ears (and make them sweat). The velour earpads can be replaced, which is good because they do wear down and attract dust. The ultra-soft, velvetlike velour is much better than pleather.BUILD QUALITY: (Grade A-). The interior of the padded bridge is made of a hard, flexible metal that won't be cracking or breaking any time soon. The plastic bridge will break if you stretch it too much, so if you want to make the 650 less tight adjust the flexible metal NOT the plastic. The phones are sturdy without being heavy. After dropping them hard three or four times, they finally did require repairing, though. (One of the drivers got dislodged.) Still, these are very sturdy phones and don't feel cheap.SOUND: (Grade, A-) Does the 650 have a "dark veil," as is often claimed? The 650 user's guide says: "In spite of all purism and the highest demands on precise sound reproduction . . . [t]oday many music-lovers want to feel the sound more instead of plainly analyzing it. The HD now captivates your senses where you used to be a mere observer. It allows total submersion into an ocean of music." I take this to mean that the main difference between the 650 and its HD predecessor is that it favors balance over precision. Some music tends to sound too bright (i.e., bass-impoverished) on headphones, so maybe Sennheiser tried to balance things by reinforcing the low end. Some people claim there is no dark veil, but then why does Sennheiser say "in spite of all purism"? It seems to me that Sennheiser is admitting that the 650 isn't neutral. The sound signature is warm, slightly dark, silky-smooth, and very easy on the ears. (I can listen to them for hours with no hearing fatigue.) However, when I upgraded my headphone amplifier to the Lehmannaudio Black Cube Linear, the 650 did become less dark. On the best recordings I own (in terms of sonics, not performance), Lookin' for Love and Live in Tokyo, there is a clarity that verges on the miraculous. Maybe the "there is no dark veil" crowd is right after all? And yet it sounds like the treble is rolled off, which is one of the reasons why the 650 is not ideal for classical in my opinion. It is almost always with classical music that I perceive the dark veil. In extreme cases, the dark warm sound turns into congested sound. As for the low frequencies: I find the bass satisfying, but it's not the deepest bass I've heard on headphones.TO AMP OR NOT TO AMP: As long as you have a high-end home system with a good headphone jack (and a good recording), these phones sound pretty good. According to popular observation, however, the 650 should be "juiced up." So I got a headphone amp. Did it make a difference? Sure did. Amping enlivens, brightens, and tightens the sound. Originally, I used a Headroom Micro Amp, which was pretty good. However, eventually I upgraded to the Lehmann and it made a noticeable difference.WHAT SOUNDS GOOD ON THESE PHONES AND WHAT DOESN'T: These headphones can be finicky, but they are not altogether unforgiving. In general, however, the 650 sounds good OR bad depending on the quality of the recording, They are best judged on the basis of state-of-the-art recordings. You might listen to a favorite piece of music and be disappointed with it on the 650 (I know I was). You will be tempted to blame the headphones, but the fault will likely be in the recording. Pop and rock that has been well recorded sounds mindbogglingly good on the 650. Classical music lovers might want to take a look at the Sennheiser HD800. The latter's angled drivers create a better orchestral soundstage. Speaking of soundstage . . .SOUNDSTAGE: For symphonic music, the 650's soundstage is just too narrow in my opinion. It sounds like the orchestra is being pushed in from the sides. Upgrading my amp added a greater sense of depth (given the right recording you WILL get a 3-D soundstage), but not much was added in terms of horizontal space. Classical music doesn't envelope you on the 650 as it does with other headphones. A nice thing about the soundstage, though, is that somtimes instruments and voices sound like they are behind me, a nice effect when it happens. There is also no lack of vertical space.Another criticism of these phones is that they put you at a distance from the music, "a few rows back," but I find that it largely depends on the recording. For example, listening to Lookin' for Love, Marlena Shaw's voice could hardly be closer. Very often, these headphones puts things right in the center of my head. But they are also good at placing instruments some distance away. It all depends on how the music was recorded.BREAK-IN TIME: What is this stuff about "burning the phones in"? Is there any truth to it? I asked somebody at the HeadRoom company, which deals specifically with headphones and headphone gear. He said yes, the diaphragm has to loosen up a little to sound its best. Lesson: don't judge the 650s overnight. Give them a little time.LEAKY: Thanks to the wide open grills, these are the leaky phones. They are not to be worn if you need to keep noise in or out.CARDAS CABLE: You can replace the factory cable that comes with the 650 (just pull out the old and plug in the new). I chose to upgrade to the Cardas. Is the difference between the stock and Cardas cables that huge? The Cardas brightens the sound and adds clarity, but it is more unwieldy than the factory cable, which is lighter and more supple, so if you move around a lot while listening to your headphones save yourself some money and stick with the stock cable. The Cardas always seems to be in my way when I move around. I keep stepping on it, and it has caused the phones to drop to the floor several times. I find contact noise not to be a problem, although another reviewer complained abou that. The Cardas is thick and gray. Its color-coded (black/red) wires make it lootk like something from workshop: unpretentious and functional. But if you don't mind the unwieldiness or barebonesness of the Cardas and don't expect to move around a lot, I do suggest ugrading because it brightens up the sound. (I have been told that it's just the placebo effect, but I find that hard to believe.)BOTTOM LINE: (Final Grade, A-). The 650 doesn't make me hate my speakers, but it's still an excellent choice for people who are serious about their music. To really hear what the 650 is capable of, be prepared to spend more on the amp than on the actual headphones. Depending on what I'm listening to, I find that sometimes these phones can be somewhat uninvolving and analytical. This is especially true when they are unamped (or improperly amped). Properly amped, however, they take on a speed and energy that makes them quite involving. Particularly considering their excellent price (compared to other high quality headphones), these are a great buy.WARNING: After mailing my headphones to Sennheiser for repair, I was called and told there was a problem because they were not purchased from an authorized dealer. I purchased them brand new here at Amazon from ELECTRONICA DIRECT, a seller often featured right on the product page. Sennheiser told me that I probably purchased stolen phones. Shoppers who want the warranty honored SHOULD NOT BUY FROM ELECTRONICA DIRECT or any unauthorized dealer. Verify that the seller you are buying from is recognized by Sennheiser. Sennheiser was finally kind enough to repair (actually they replaced) the phones after I complained up the chain, but it was a hassle.

    4Great buy on a well-made hammock
    By B. Pickett
This is my third hammock over several years. The first was a very stretchy cotton rope one that a squirrel got fixated on and chewed to pieces, and the second was a very not stretchy, non-quilted nylon fabric one that held up very well until one of the stretcher bars broke in half. I would describe this Castaway hammock as medium stretchy, which means it has better support than the cotton rope one and is more comfortable than the non-quilted one because it has more give. I didn't specifically look for a quilted hammock and didn't know anything about them until I bought this one. I mainly wanted durability, the right size, and the right price.I'm a little tough on hammocks, leaving them out to the weather more than I should, so time will have to tell how durable this new hammock is. But, so far, in owning it for several months now, I'm very pleased with it. I like that it's reversible. I'm giving it four stars only because it does not dry quickly, meaning that when you're getting ready for a party, you can't put off hosing down the hammock until the last minute. Otherwise, I'm happy with it, and you can't beat it for the price.

5A great deal for a great hammock
    By New Englander
This is a great hammock! And the price was about half of what I saw it selling for elsewhere. It comes with all the hardware and is made of a sturdy fabric. The kids and my dh can fit in it all at once!

4Nice item, but wood cant handle the weather
    By Erik
This is a nice, quality item, just a couple small beefs: I guess I should expect this, but the wood part of the unit is starting to get weathered. Maybe theres another hammock that has a different type of wood, or finish, or doesnt use wood at all. Its not a huge deal, but its not quite as pretty as it was when we got it. Also, the fabric part is getting a little moldy, which is of course my fault, but it would be nice if it were easier to disassemble and throw in the wash.Bottom line, this is a great product if you take care of it :)

I really love these dishes (provided they come in one piece as noted by another reviewer, and YES Amazon is great about replacements). They're perfect for a country decor and durable enough for everyday use including in the dishwasher. I'm afraid to run the heated dry though, because of the pattern, but there's nothing saying it would be harmed at all - that's just me, I prefer not to find out;) You'll be happy with the purchase.

I have wanted this pattern for years but it was always so expensive that I put off the purchase. This was a price I just couldn't pass up. I also got the buy three get one free offer so that made the deal even sweeter. These dishes are just beautiful. I did have a few broken pieces in a couple of sets but Amazon took care of the problem so fast I could not believe it. They rate number one in customer service! I am beyond thrilled. My family also thinks they are just beautiful and my table looks gorgeous for every meal. I could not be happier. I have already started buying other pieces.

    4Adequate for the price
    By Robert F. Leroux
After surveying them all I chose the Shop Vac Ultra over the runner up Craftsman only because of brand loyalty. i deferred from buying a similar model at a big box store because the price including delivery here was less and this model didn't have a pump sitting in the bottom of the cannister. I didn't need that. It's quiet and the motor has a smooth all-is-well sound to it. I don't need the ear muffs in a closed shop although out of habit I'll probably wear them anyway. Lock on hose is a definite plus for pulling the unit tag-a-long style. Plenty of 2 1/2" hose. Doesn't come with a smaller 1 1/4" hose which is handy for attaching to tools. Low profile fits under many benches etc.. but tool caddy sticks out obtrusively...small annoyance. Suction on dry pick up is fine with sawdust and general pickup. Has a deflector positioned inside the canister to keep sucked up projectiles from going crazy in there and destroying the filter. My last 20 gal. shop Vac lasted thirty years with some help in the form of handyman meddling in the inards. If this one is as esay to service a ways down the road I'll be happy. Comes with reusable, washable filter. I prefer the Cleanstream filter but this one seems fine too. Lots of options one can order to add to the package.

4Excellent vac, only problem is attachment storage
    By Tony
I bought mine from Westlake Ace hardware about 3-4 yrs ago, I had originally bought a smaller vac but it didn't have the suction power I wanted from a shopvac, so I returned it and paid the difference for the most powerful shop vac they had in stock, the 6.5 hp 18 gallon model. I am very impressed with the power mine has, plus it's made here in the USA which is a huge selling point for me, I would be willing to bet Shop Vac is the only brand made here. It's also surprisingly quiet, not much louder than a standard vacuum you use for your floors. My only complaint is the tool storage deal, it comes with several attachments/tools and they don't fit very well onboard, so you'll have to pay attention so you don't lose any of them. If I had to buy another, I wouldn't hesitate buying this same model again.

5My own little Star Wars R2D2
    By F.M.
I can't remember how many years ago I bought the 18 gal. 6.5 HP machine but it is all black and I paid less than $80 for it at the big orange store if that narrows it down.It is the hardest working tool in my workshop/garage. I store it under my work bench and it is the last thing I use before I turn off the light. I vacuum whatever tool(s) I used and then clean up the floor around them. It then rolls back under my bench like R2D2.I have a 2HP VERY LOUD dust collector that attach to my bigger machines like the cabinet saw and band saw but I still need some sort of above the table clean up. I hook the ShopVac directly to my routing table, sander or biscuit jointer. It should come with a 1 1/4" attachment but you can buy them at the same place where you get the disposable bags.I abuse this thing all the time! I have put off emptying it so many times that when I do open the lid it pops up four inches because the dust and debris is compressed in the machine. But it still seems to work as though it were empty.I step on the hose, I pull it around by the hose harder than I should and sometimes over extend the extension cord. Yet, it's like the little rabbit and the drum, it just keeps rolling along. The disposable bags are a big help in keeping things clean as well as having an extra filter so you can use the machine to clean the dirty filter when you switch them out.I have the pipe in my driveway to attach my dust collector to all of my machines. I put it off because it is a LOT easier and quieter to use my R2D2.

    5Retro perfection
    By J. Preston
I received this unit a few days ago.It only took about 30 minutes to assemble the electrodes and strike an arc. This is a proven, quality designed welder that will do everything most home or farm shop users will need for welding. The design is a proven design from the 1930's and 1940's. It is sturdy, reliable, and, isn't hampered by "digital hocus-pocus." You turn it on, adjust the control to the correct voltage and weld . . . . You don't have to spend days of your valuable life memorizing arcane sequences of digital button inputs to get it work . . . . A BIG PLUS!You won't be able to weld pipelines, 8 inch I beams, or, heavy duty frame joints. However, it is more than adequate for 99% of sheet metal fabrications and repairs, or, simple angle iron constructions in a home, farm or small business shop. The helmet is enough to get started, but, I wouldn't rely on it for more than practice. It took almost a half an hour to assemble, and, it is so flimsy it is likely to break (especially the ratchet) after a few good swipes moving it up or down on your head with your gloved paw.I purchased another welding helmet with a solar activated auto-darkening feature. I purchased the Auto-Helm pro-series helmet on Amazon and it has every feature one could want in an auto-darkening helmet. Auto-Helm Pro-Series Auto-Darkening Welding Helmets NewThese take a little getting used to, but, they have become an indispensible tool for anyone who is welding even on an occasional basis. If nothing else, they allow you to focus more of your attention on safety and proper welding that if you constantly have to raise and lower your visor and adjust your helmet. This package does not come with gloves, I purchased an excellent pair of Hobart's at a VERY reasonable price here on Amazon. Hobart 770439 Rust/Black Welding GlovesI also purchased the wheel package for the welder. It isn't available on Amazon, but, you can get it for about $11.00 plus shipping at most online welding supply places. You will need the wheel kit for, if nothing else, safety purposes so that you can reposition this unit away from flammables (inlcuding wooden walls and woodwork in your garage). This unit ships by freight at about 120 lbs. and you need the wheels to move it around. To use this welder, you will need a 220/250 line. I had three outlets installed in my garage at a cost of about $125.00. It uses a standard NEMA 6-50 plug and any qualified electrician can wire your shop for it.Some DO'S and DON'TS:DO shop around for the best price. Most retailers simply drop ship from one of Lincoln's facilities. You are paying the retailer mostly just for marketing and order taking. I was able to find it for $60.00 cheaper than the lowest price available here.DON'T overlook the safety brochure. Give yourself time to experiment with this unit and get used to welding in your own personal evironment. It may be a light duty welder, but, at a max output of 225 volts in can pack one heck of a wallop if not properly grounded, etc.DO purchase a good welding manual: The best I could find for refreshing my Vo-Tech course I took five years ago is "Welding Essentials - Questions and Answers." This book has ALL of the important fundamentals of welding and will help you troubleshoot your efforts at home or in your shop. Welding EssentialsDON'T be in a hurry to strike your first arc with this unit. I took at least a couple of hours to review the safety brochure and my welding manual(s) before striking an arc. I practiced moving around the electrodes in the shop without the unit being plugged in. Then, I practiced again with the unit plugged in and the switch off.DO make your welding area safe from flammables. My first use of this was to weld an electrical socket onto the back of my tractor. I used a pneumatic wire brush to clean the surface on the tractor to which I was welding the socket. I then cleaned it with mineral spirits to fully degrease the metal. I left the towels which had only a little mineral spirits on them from the cleaning, and, forgot they were tucked into the tracks of the crawler; the first arc ignited them from a distance of about a foot. DO have a fire extinguisher very close by . . . I was lucky to have such a gentle reminder of the need for safety when arc-welding.I successfully welded my socket to the tractor - backwards - I was so focused on being safe that I didn't notice I had clamped it backwards before welding it. DON'T screw the pooch! Have fun.

This is a great welder for the Home Depot & Lowes price of $269.00. Don't pay over $300.

This is a great quality welder for the price. The customer service was absolutely superb. I spoke with the vendor on multiple ocassions and was called back promptly and graciously, even when the question was not related to their direct involvement with my purchase. Way to go.
