My favorite purchase this year!

This little greenhouse it terrific! I love it and have told all my friends and relatives about it so they can get one too.I bought it to "save" tomatoes and herbs in my kitchen garden from freezing too soon. Our nights have dropped to freezing starting the last week of August and I had been going out to cover everything in flannel sheets and comforters every night then going out every morning to uncover them for daytime when it would be hot and sunny. It was just like having kids to put to bed every night and I couldn't leave home without worrying about not getting things covered before the night air got cold. Now I have this greenhouse, I just unzip the doors on the top section to allow for venting if the day is too warm and the air in the greenhouse stays just right even if I don't get home until after dark to zip it up all the way. The plants have really benefited from the added humidity too. I have even dug up some tomaoes, peppers and eggplants from the big garden and potted them in the greenhouse to see what happens. (The big garden has long since succumbed to the cold) They are starting to put out fruit and this greenhouse has given me at least one or two extra months for fresh produce and herbs.Setup was a snap. I did it all by myself in nothing flat and then my husband gave me a hand with the tie downs because we have winds on a regular basis that can pick up a metal garage building and move it several feet. He was dubious about it staying put but by the time we got all the included tie downs in place he has changed his opinion.Since the greenhouse is open on the bottom, I just slid it over my existing plants and then adjusted the position of the "skirting" on walls of my raised bed. After securing the tiedowns, I used some bricks on the outside skirting to secure it around the uneven terrain that I had errected it on. Next I installed the metal frame poles inside (they are just like the modern tent poles and go together within seconds if you read the directions and install them in the correct order.The greenhouse comes in a nifty storage case and collapses down like those windshield sun screens that kinda coil up when not in use. Once my current kitchen garden plants have stopped producing, I plan to store the greenhouse and then set it up in a flat clear spot next spring for an early start on next year's goodies.My terraced kitchen garden filled approximately one half of the greenhouse so I moved some garden shelves into one of the empty quarters and put a large wooden planter of herbs and strawberries in the other quarter. The shelves are holding 2 to 5 gallon pots with the vegetables I saved from the big garden before it froze. I still have more room if I want to fill it completely, but I left an aisle down the middle from one door to the next for now.A little water goes a long way in this structure so I only water 2 - 3 times a week. I have more strawberries now than I had all summer and the tomatoes are really busting out.There are small velcro'd openings for water hoses and power cords built in. I plan to set up a thermal controlled heat light this weekend as our first snow is due in a few days.The doors have mesh screens as well as the polycarb door flaps. There are velcro straps all over for securing both sets of flaps.We are installing a large sunroom/greenhouse to the front of our house next spring so this was the perfect little item for me to try out greenhouse gardening. I expect it to be a handy and useful auxilliary greenhouse for many years to come. No matter if you have a large garden or just a small bed, this greenhouse it really worth it's real estate in getting more from your plants in any climate. If I could, I'd buy several more and use them for cold frames in the big garden next year!

Great little greenhouse

I put this greenhouse up last weekend, and while I found the estimation of 5 minutes to set up a little optomistic for the first time, I could see approaching that with practice. (Closer to 30 minutes for me this first time!) It went up without problems, and the directions were clear and well illustrated in the manual. The materials are quality and the construction solid. I am very pleased with it. My plants will be well protected from the last cold weather of the season, and then I plan to set up seed-starting stations in it. It is a great little greenhouse, and would be very easy to move to different locations just by taking up the stakes and shifting it. Five stars.

Great for seed starting - very practical. (updated 2012)

This is a great little item. Like any tent-type structure you have to figure it out a little the first time (aha - poles go on the _inside_! - I get it). It's nice and sturdy and has room for several of those white plastic shelving systems you can get anywhere. I got a little ceramic heater at Lowes for $20 and added two black plastic tubs full of water for additional passive solar heating. Things are nice and tropical inside and my seeds are sprouting like mad. I hope to have a real full-size greenhouse someday but this is a fun and inexpensive starter.Update November 2012 - almost 7 years later, I am ready to replace the greenhouse. It has some tears from when it blew away a couple of times, and the screening has dry-rotted in places, but it performed fine through last winter. 7 years is not a bad run for such an inexpensive item, so I plan to buy another one. I now have a larger, sturdier greenhouse, but will keep this one for additional seed starting and lettuce/greens production over the winter. Anchor it well in windy locations. Mine is on a concrete deck, so I put masonry blocks in the corners to hold it.

Very cute!

This is very cute, but smaller than I expected. The dimensions were not listed, so I knew it was a gamble. I bought it as a cookie jar, but it's medium sized, more of a snack jar I'd say. 8.9" x 7.9" x 7.9" You have to spin the lid a bid when putting it back on. Lining it up right is sort of like putting the top back on a pumpkin that you didn't cut a notch in. It's also glossier and a lighter green color (more true "apple") than shown in the picture. I wanted to give it a 4.5 out of five stars.

When You Really Get Serious About Cooking

Bottom-Line: If you are ready to step up to real no-nonsense cookware, make it All-Clad MC2 Cookware.I do most of the cooking in my household. I enjoy cooking, it relaxes me and I like to experiment with different ingredients, spices and dishes. Sometimes my dishes turn out the way they were supposed to, sometimes not. Heretofore, I have used a Calphalon Nonstick Cookware Set, but its pieces have started to scratch and peel, much to my chagrin.So I started looking for a set to grace my kitchen. I decided this time to pay real coin for a long lasting (American made) cookware set so I started casting around for a stainless steel set and decide upon All-Clad, namely the "MC2 Master Chef (2) 10-Piece Cookware Set," which I purchased from MetroKitchen for a tidy sum.About the CookwareAll-Clad Metalcrafters, I learned during my research, is an American cookware company based in Southwestern Pennsylvania. The "MC2 Master Chef (2) 10-Piece Cookware Set" is made of a brushed aluminum exterior and stainless steel interior finish; non-stick need not apply!The SetBe forewarned, this is expensive cookware. My set cost $574.95 and that was on sale. The set consists of the following:(1) 8" Fry Pan(1) 10" Fry Pan(1) 2-quart Saucier w/Lid(1) 3 1/2-quart sauce pan w/Lid(1) 3-quart Sauté pan w/Lid(1) 8-quart Stock Pot w/Lid(1) 5.5-quart Cast Aluminum Dutch Oven (free gift)The set is designed with stay-cool handles for easy maneuvering. I have found that while the handles stay much cooler then other cookware I have used, if the pot has been cooking for a while the handle will get semi warm which might prove uncomfortable for some.The lids are made of stainless steel and surprise, surprise; the medal handle does get hot even after extended cooking and or simmering.The pots and pans come with a lifetime warranty, but there is an extensive list of do's and don'ts that must be honored to keep the warranty in effect. The biggest has to do with the dishwasher: do not put them in there or the warranty is voided.Another big no-no is non-stick cooking stray, it leave a film which over time can affect the way the pots, pans, and skillets cook. Now I use light olive oil--just enough to cover the bottom of the pan, especially when it comes to browning and searing meats. And I have found that I get much better results, then with cooking sprays.My ViewpointMy new "MC2 Master Chef (2) 10-Piece Cookware Set" is about what I expected: very nice! The 10-piece set is, hands down, without a doubt the best set of cookware I have ever owned. Yes there was an initial period of adjustment when I had to gauge the best gas settings to use with which foods, but that is true of any cookware. I am now used to the way the cookware, well cooks, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Inside the packaging there are helpful hints so that you can get the most out of the cookware; I highly recommend reading it closely.Calphalon has a fan for life before it cookware started to unravel, peel, and scratch! Now I have moved on to what I hope is a much better set that will last much, much, longer. If you are ready to step up to real no-nonsense cookware, make it "All-Clad MC2 Master Chef (2)." Yes, it's expensive, but the best things in life never come without a price, in this case a hefty one. This is one I am willing to pay. Now that I have turned to "All-Clad MC2 Master Chef (2)" hopefully I will never have to go back.

I just love my new cookware!!!!!!!!!! its soooo beautiful. Like cooking in it too. The only downside - cleaning. If you want the pots and pans to look like new, you have to use appropriate celaner for it. I use Barkeeper's Secret. Then, since it has a rather strong smell, use regular soap to wash it off.

High Quality Cookware

This is a foundation set of high quality cookware, suitable for any serious home cook. With stainless steel exteriors over aluminum cores, the pots distribute heat evenly, yet the cooking surfaces are non-reactive. While they do not have non-stick coatings, when used as directed (preheating oil in the pans before adding food to be fried), food usually doesn't stick to the pans, and you certainly don't have to worry about Teflon flaking off into your food. The stainless steel surfaces are also easy to clean.If you are used to cheaper cookware, there are a few differences with these pots that you will need to get used to. First, since the pots are heavier than single-layer pots, the balance point for pouring a pot with one hand is right up against the pot itself, rather than out along the handle. And since the handles are solid steel, that means you will definitely need to use a pot holder for pouring, although you can usually touch the handles bare handed if you're simply moving the pots around on the stove. Also, the handles for the lids are steel, so you need to use a pot holder just to lift a lid (and remind visitors to do the same, so that they don't burn their hands). While the cookware is made in the Canonsburg, PA, the lids are marked "Made in China."

Great cookware!

I was reluctant to give up my worn out non-stick pots and pans, but due to potential health issues associated with them, I bought the All-Clad 10 piece cookware. Surprisingly this cookware is very easy to clean. For the tougher jobs, a little pre-soak is all that is needed. Although a little pricey, these pots and pans cook food evenly and fast. They are heavy, and the handles will get hot so pot holders will be necessary. I'm very pleased with my purchase.
