4Tasty crowd pleasing staple
By Bromptonboy
'Jarlsberg cheese is a Norwegian Emmentaler type cows milk cheese with large holes, a rich buttery texture and mild, sweet nutty flavor. It has a slightly lower fat content than Swiss cheese, and melts easily' wonderful on a sandwich or on crackers.

4Does the job and does it well.
By A Customer
I have had this external battery for about a week now. Firstly, it is small and very thin. They ship it with stickable rubber stops so you can place it beneath your laptop without slippage. I personally don't find it that heavy but I can see how people with a notebook might get that impression.

As far as battery life goes, you can use it for a typical work day without any problems. Imagine never having to find a wall socket again. Furthermore, it is great not having to lug around long cables. All you have is the flat batter and a 6 inch cable that comes out the back. Also, you can use your laptop at full speed for the day instead of the sluggish performance that is required by most laptop batteries.

There is one dowside that I noticed. The attachement is not inclued with the battery itself. This means you will have to go to Valence's webpage and find the appropriate attachement for your laptop and buy that serperately (~$30). Furthermore, the cable attachement doesn't really "lock in" to the battery. I had it slip out on my once by accident while I was moving my laptop around. It hasn't happend since and it doesn't come out without a bit of effort. That being said it would be nice if they had something that snapped on and locked.

I wanted to put this up really quick.. not a great review, but a quick overview of my opinion. Hope it helps.

2Performance not upto promise
By A. Gupta
I got the N-Charge II after searching for alternate power sources for my laptop for quite a while. The biggest advantage that N-Charge offered was 5 hours of power - a very good thing when it comes to watching DVDs on planes when combined with the laptop's native battery.I expected that N-Charge would last atleast 4.5 hours, and maybe drop to 4 hours with time - when watching DVDs on laptop. However, during initial use, the battery did not even make 3 hours when doing simple word processing and office work. It typically ran out in about 2.66 hours. This is with LCD brightness set to low, and not running any CD/DVD. I have an IBM T40 with 1GB RAM and Pentium M centrino.Few other observations:1. The quality of the connections was pretty solid as the reviewer before me mentioned2. The Valence co. didnt respond to the emails I send them about some hi-pitched noise, that happened everytime I unplugged the battery from the power source. So this contradicts point made before of the high customer service over email. Maybe they are better on the phone.3. Its power is rated at 12.8V and 4.050AH - something that isn't mentioned on their website. I found better power for T40 - 6.6AH and 10.8V - for $180 - and I can get it for cheaper through some deals. It doesnt offer the flexibility of N Charge - but seems to be a better value to me.All and all, a disappointing product for $200, one that I will return.

5I would recommend this over the OTHER brand!!!
By Spacejockey
I have both a NCharge and an Electroyava external battery and first off, I would like to say that NCharge has a far better customer service than the Canadian based Electoyava. You be the judge...

I send in my Electroyava for a broken tiny contact pin inside the battery end of the connector and it took Electrovaya nearly two months, a hundred bucks for replacement plus shipping cost, numerous emails and phone calls and then, dealing with the NY State based contact and starting all over again, then faxing my signature (that last one was unheard of from all my dealings online!!!) before I got a brand new replacement. They surely could have send me a replacement earlier instead of giving me the runaround and waited and waited.

Electroyava's tiny plug-in connection was secured only by the snug rubber edge that surrounded the whole battery- a tiny hole in the back within the rubber edge, and the contact pin could easily be wiggled, twisted, misaligned and break while the connection behind the NCharge is very, very beefy, firm and positive with no tiny little contact in the middle of some tiny black hole to break! In another word, NCharge battery's construction was designed well and with users in mind.

Meanwhile, I send a comment via email to Valance and their customer service called me back the next day. Find me another company that would do that!

Anyway, I love my NCharge battery and my only complain was those very fragile, tiny black plastic alignment tabs/guides flanking the connector. One broke off within days after I received the battery but it did not hamper its operation. I would recommend an NCharge over any other brand and a serious consideration when you are thinking of buying another factory battery as a backup! It might be a little more expensive initially but it is worth it in the long run.

I might recommend gluing a 99 cent, 2mm foam rubber mat from the craft store on top of the battery so your laptop would not slide around on top of it. Then again, you could use some Velcro tabs too.

Lets give Valance some more business so they could produce better and less expensive products for us consumers, I'd say.

5Best Buy
By A Customer
After searching through endless PDA "closeout" models and suffering sticker shock looking at the so-called "new" replacements, I came to the conclusion that the Viewsonic V-36 had and still has the most useable features for the money. The HP models have clearer, easier to read graphics displays but cost far too much. The Sonys are even more overpriced. Look carefully, review the included features and price any accessories you might want (especially with the sonys)and after actually trying each model, you will find that the V-36 is a true "best buy"...

5Looking for the best PDA on the market? Here it is!
By A Customer
I am a computer geek. I admit it, and I am a previous Black-and-White Handspring Visor Edge owner, and a Sony Clie NR70 (color). If you are looking, I would advise you not to buy SONY (overpriced, only compatible with SONY Software & SONY Memory Sticks, does not work easily with "Non-SONY" software... (trust me - been there, done that). Especially if you use WINDOWS XP. It is very hard to sync your palm. I have many times had to re-download drivers, new versions of PALM Software, and many times even uninstall and reinstall the hardware every time I would synchronize with my brand new WINDOWS XP computer (more or less 15-30 setup time to get my computer to recognize my palm). However it's not that bad for WINDOWS 98 users - 5 minutes at most. I've been researching, (I mean long hours researching) for the perfect PDA. Researched Dell, HP/Compaq, Palm (extensively), even e-bay to compare prices. After all my research I finally came upon a winner! The new ViewSonic V36. In the time that it normally takes me just to get my palm to start synchronizing, I had opened the Amazon.com box, installed software (Microsoft Activesync (one-time install, less than 5 minutes) synchronized it, and installed some programs and even some mp3's (really fast) all before school! I also love the way the device hierarchy (arrangement of folders)is set up, just like my WINDOWS XP Computer (example: My Device; My Documents, Programs, Windows, etc.) Its synchronization is extremely fast, and because it runs WINDOWS MOBILE POCKET PC 2003 edition, I synchronize with doing anything! (not even installing drivers). With its combination of MP3/WAV player, Digital Camera, Personal Organizer, Student Planner, Voice Recorder,64 MB of memory, best bang for buck, and much more, it truly is the best Plug-and-Play PDA on the market! I'm not joking!

5Superb Value!
By ActuarialLad
I recently bought the Viewsonic V36 as a Christmas gift. Although this is easily the least expensive PDA at this processor/memory level (Intel 300MHz XScale processor, 64MB RAM, 32MB ROM), it performs extremely well and is very well designed. I originally intended to purchase the HP IPAQ 1945 which has very similar specs to the V36 but was sold on the Viewsonic with the $100 lower price tag (the actual cost is $299 less a $100 mail-in rebate; the HP is $299 with no rebate). The HP 1945 has integrated Bluetooth which the V36 lacks but the V36 has a nice integrated 300KP camera which is not available on the HP (the camera works quite nicely in well-lit conditions and can take both still and moving images). (Note: If you need WiFi capability, there is an optional 802.11b SDIO card available for the V36 for $129 that plugs into the sole SD card expansion port.) Also, the V36 will accept a standard headphone plug for listening to MP3s while the HP requires an adapter for its miniplug. The 3.5" screen is clear and bright and identical in quality to the HP. All other hardware/software specs for the HP 1945 and V36 are identical (well, okay the HP is a half inch shorter and half an ounce lighter but that's not really worth the hundred bucks price difference to me).

Setup of the unit is a breeze (you'll barely need the included manual) and synchronizing the unit with a PC is fast and effortless. Everything you need to get up and running is included in the box (USB adapter cable, power cable, companion CD with MS ActiveSync and MS Outlook 2002, and a carry case). I highly recommend the Viewsonic V36 PDA.

4It is great when the GPS can acquire the signals
By D. Tran
I use this GPS with my IPAQ 1945.

Pluses:- Works great with the IPAQ 1945; good, clear voice guidance; good maps; good software- Very straightforward, very friendly user interface -- light year ahead of my Magellan GPS.

Minuses: It is great so why I gave it only three stars?

- The GPS receiving unit is just a small hard plastic device and as slick as a hockey puck on your car's dashboard. I just don't know where to put it without it sliding off into the floor board each time I make a turn. I tucked it between the winshield and the dashboard, but that is not a good place as it can be very hot under the sun.- The so-call bracket for your PCPocket is a joke. There is not a single piece of information on how it should be put together or at least how it should look like assembled. Anyway, after a some trials and errors I managed to put it together and found that it simply does not work on the car's air vent as intended. It simply cannot hold the IPAQ. It is quite frustrated because simple you cannot use this GPS receiver/IPAQ while driving unless you can find a suitable holder for your IPAQ.

- For walking/hinking: Unlike other GPS's where the receiver and display is in one unit now you will have to hold two (2) devices in two hands. It simply awkward and not workable while walking/hiking. I even try to hang the GPS receiver around my neck in a clear plastic bag, but it did not work out because the receiver would bounce as I walk and make the display jittery and jumpy.

So here I have, in my opinion, a technical marvel that I really like, but as a practical matter, I cannot 1) use it in my car until I can find or devise a way to safely mount the IPAQ display, and 2) walk/hike with it because it will require two hands to hold both devices!-------------------------------------------Additional review after three weeks, with one long trip from Texas to Florida:- Yes, it did give opposite turn instructions a few times. My guess is that, in this case the highway exits were very close to each other and the software's position predictor probably estimated that I already missed an exit/turn and issued the turn around instructions.

- Bought a Akron holder for my IPAQ, so that now it can be firmly attached to my windshield at a good viewing angle.

- Bought an inexpensive cell phone case, with plastic window for the GPS receiver. This cell phone case, which holds the GPS receiver, can be clipped to my belt and the GPS receiver still can receive good satellite signals.

- Found out that it will take a long time to generate and down load a big map such as the entire state of Texas. I suppose this is a function of the PDA -- not much I can do about it.

- Wish that I can enter known GPS coordinates as destinations. Bummer.

Overall I am a much happier camper now. I jacked it up to 4 stars!

4best bluetooth gps product on market
By A Customer
I've been using this product for 3 months after evaluating other products such as Pharos, Navman and Socket.

The strong points are:1) quick TTFF(Time to First Fix). A cold fix usually can be obtained in under 2 minutes. Make sure it is mounted with a clear view of the southern sky. You can use a velcro sticky from a crafts store if the rubber surface is not adequate to prevent sliding. Most peoiple mount it on the dashboard. Be careful in hot sunny climates as the black surface can cause the unit to overheat.2) Long Battery life: you can expect up to 8 hours with the lithium ion rechargeable battery. This is pretty good for most bluetooth receivers.3) Works well with IPAQ devices. No pairing relationship is required. This is often not the case for other bluetooth receivers.4) The mapping software is no-frills and works vey well. You can store important locations as favorites and also use addresses from your contacts on your PDA.

Cons:1) The Black Case can cause unit to overheat in sunny locations when placed on the dashboard.2) Glare from the PDA screen is noticeable in sunny daylight situations. This is a problem eveident in all PDA GPS solutions. It is safer and less distracting to rely on the spoken directions as the GPS will warn you well ahead of any turns. I would recommend using a quality vehicle mount with external speaker and charging built in. The ARKON unit is a good device.3) Low audible output. Again, an external vehicle mount is a good idea when using this in your car.

5Simple, Flexible, and well designed
By A Customer
I have used this system with both an iPAQ 1945 and 4155. Worked with almost no issues on both devices. The "puck" has never slid across my dash, since it has a rubber backing. Even in my sports car it stayed put around quick corners.

I download maps of 3-5 states onto a SD card and the data seems quite accurate. I have only had one incorrect turn given in the past 4 months.

The battery life is 6-7 hours and the fact that it uses the same charger as the iPAQ is great. I always keep the iPAQ plugged in and mounted to my dash at a good viewing angle. The Bluetooth connection is almost never dropped, so no complaints.

The only "issue" I have is the application doesn't always close out properly, so I tend to do a soft reset after using the software. Works perfect every time once I got in this habit.

Buy it and you will save time and avoid frustrations driving in unfamiliar locations.
