5Should have bought this long time ago...
By Walt
I have been renovating my home for years and never got a respirator for reasons that mostly revolve around laziness shrouded in a cloud of machismo. I occasionally donned the white masks you would get from the local hardware store, but quite frankly, they don't do a whole lot. This is my first respirator, and I have to thank the authors of the many reviews I read on this site that made me choose this one in particular.I've used this under the house (fine dirt), while gardening (pollen), while sweeping (dust), and while using power tools to cut/mill wood (fine sawdust, smoke). I don't think any respirator will ever give you the experience of the freedom of not wearing any breathing apparatus of course, but this one is actually more comfortable than those white masks, and I breathe a lot better after my jobs are done. No more coughing and raspy throat for me!Due to pollution, a bit of aging, and probably all those years of not wearing a respirator when I should have, I now have a mild asthmatic reaction to irritating airborne particles (I take Qvar everyday and have albuterol on standby). Don't let this be you! Get a respirator (I am of course, recommending this one) if you do any job/housework that results in you coughing or having to rinse your nose and/or mouth out afterwards. Your lungs will thank you. Here are some downsides to wearing this (and probably all) respirators:- Having facial hair will not allow a good seal around the muzzle (so shave, and beards, goatees, mustaches, mutton chops, etc. are out)- It's a giant thing strapped to your face and head. I've unpleasantly bonked into things while working.- The quick release clip on the back is great for getting in and out of this thing (I've read many reviews saying this is a key feature that many other respirators lack), but while it's very useful, the clip is kind of small and hard to operate (especially if you're wearing gloves).- You'll look like a member of a hazmat team. Here's some upside bullet points:- Replacement cartridges are easy to find (something I think people don't always think about). I've seen them at OSH, Home Depot, and of course, Amazon.- The quick release clip gets you in and out in easily- I get sweaty and dirty, but this has been easy to clean- Replacement cartridges easy to remove and install (don't know if this is normally an issue or not, but I thought I'd mention it)- Did I already mention this will help save your lungs?- You'll look like a member of a hazmat team.

4I probably should have bought one of these sooner
By T. Peterson
I began some remodeling for a family member that involved removing some old corrugated fiberglass roofing that had dry rotted from eccessive sun exposure. As the fiberglass broke I could see the tiny dust particles floating in the air and knew I was breathing this stuff in. I then decided to buy this respirator because of the quick latch feature. The quick-latch turns out to be very useful because when unlatched, the respirator drops down and hangs under your chin allowing you to take a break and breath normally. This is much more comfortable to wear than a white dust mask. It did tend to loosen up on me over time but could be easily retightened by pulling the straps. Wearing this I didn't think twice about ripping out the rest of the fiberglass roofing and other materials.

5This is a good respirator, and you should shave your face if you plan to use it
By David Beauchamp
You can get a clean seal with this respirator really easily, but not with a beard, not even a goatee, not even once it's tightly trimmed. I tried it all. For me the will to fix our bathroon ceiling trumped the hairs dancing around my mouth and chin, at least temporarily, thus I shaved. Post shave this thing is airtight and I am comfortable. The venerated goatee will grow back, lungs don't. The canisters cover most nasty stuff you may encounter, up to and including mold and asbestos. Be smart: wear a long sleeve shirt, gloves, airtight eyewear, and earplugs.

4Nice but not like the old one.
By Bush444
I wanted to replace the old Moen 4621P pull-handle faucet with the exact same thing. While the picture shows a faucet that looks very much like my 21 year old faucet, the one I received is different. The most significant difference is that it is NOT a pull-handle. It is a push handle. After connecting it up and turning on the water supply, I pulled on the handle to try it. I pulled and tugged, but no water ran. I looked for some safety clip or packaging tape that might be holding the handle down and could see nothing. I tried to rotate the handle as with the old model to change from cold to hot, but the handle would not rotate! In frustration, thinking I had somehow messed up the installation, I leaned on the handle, and the water flowed! The pointed part of the handle doesn't point up as on the old model and the current picture. It points downward. To change the water to a warmer temperature you must push the handle to the RIGHT, which is the side of the handle with a BLUE color. To get cooler water you must push the handle to the RED side! This is counter intuitive, and everyone who first uses it gets it wrong. I thought perhaps I had mistakenly connected the valve improperly, so I crawled under the vanity to check. I had connected the tubing labeled for hot water to the hot line. The thing is simply poorly designed. The footprint of the newer design is smaller than the old one, so you may see the outline of the old faucet on your counter top. We will get used to the design of the newer version of the Moen 4621P. However, it is not anyway near the quality of the old design.

4Typical good quality moen
By James Robinson
Better than the old Moen I replaced. Once I get the hang of just tilting the handle vs pulling it up.Very easy to install.

Traditional hubs share 12Mbps bandwidth among all the ports.

5Belkin has another winner in Tetra Hub!
By Victor Healey
Here are a few details you should know about the Tetra Hub. You have to buy the darn thing to figure this out.The Tetra Hub must be connected to a USB 2.0-compliant host in order to function in high-speed mode (480Mbps data rate). If the Hub is connected to a USB 1.1-compliant host, it will operate only in low-speed or full-speed mode (1.5Mbps/12Mbps).Note: The Hub itself will always connect to the host as either a full- or high-speed device, never as a low-speed device. Any idiot that tries to use this with an old USB 1.0 PC port will find it does not work, duh! These are the people who write Amazon reviews denigrating a product and they have not a clue as to how it is supposed to function. I really like the one where someone at Belkin tech support said to take it back and go buy someone else's hub, i.e. "GO AWAY!"The Belkin Tetra Hub provides four downstream USB ports that offer backward-compatible, Plug-and-Play connectivity with all USB devices, including USB 1.1 (or low- and full-speed) devices, as well as with USB 2.0 (or high-speed) devices. This includes such peripherals as scanners, printers, mass-storage devices, and high-resolution cameras. The Hub is self-powered if you use the supplied AC adaptor, which allows the cascading of devices with additional hubs, so that up to 127 USB devices may be connected to a single port. The Hub features neat multicolor LEDs that indicate the operating speed of each connected USB device and the speed of the link to the host computer. More on this feature in a minute. The TetraHub offers several important advantages over traditional USB 2.0 hubs. Most important is its implementation of the new "Quad TT" architecture. Simply stated, when connected to a USB 2.0 host controller, each of the TetraHub's four downstream ports deliver a full 12Mbps of USB bandwidth for low- and full-speed devices while still providing total support for high-speed devices. This is especially important when connecting multiple, bandwidth-intensive, full-speed devices such as USB webcams, speakers, scanners, and external storage devices.BACKGROUNDThe USB 2.0 specification includes three separate modes of data transmission. These are defined as low-speed (1.5Mbps), full-speed (12Mbps), and high-speed (480Mbps).The Belkin TetraHub appears to be the only USB hub on the market today that provides a visual indication of a connected device's speed. This is accomplished using Belkin proprietary speed indication circuitry. Each downstream port on the Hub has a corresponding LED that changes color according to the speed of the connected device.Connection Speed - LED colorLow - GreenFull - RedHigh - AmberIn addition, the upstream port has a corresponding LED that indicates the speed of the computer's USB host controller.Host Controller Speed - LED colorFull - RedHigh - AmberIMHO this is an unusual USB hub that is worth every penny Belkin gets. I just wish they had built this technology into the 7-port hub that features two ports on top for my flash drive.I do not work in the computer industry or for Belkin. As I look at my desk, I notice I have a few other products from Belkin that have been very ssatisfactory over the last few years. I hope this Tetra USB HUB continues that experience over time.Vic

5Works fine
By B. Ramani
Bought this hub and installed per directions provided with item. No problems for Windows XP Pro, recognized and installed with no issues. Connected up all four ports and have no problems at all - I have a multi-card reader installed in one, two ports use my Apricorn portable HDD (one power, one power+data, usb Y cable), and one has a UPS attached (for status monitoring.) Hub is running at 'high' (orange), UPS is running at 'low' (green) and the Apricorn & card reader are running at 'high' (orange), based on LED colors for each port. I have no spacing issues for the standard USB cables that came with each piece of equipment attached. No heat issues but I found an old stand from my external DVD writer that I am not using and and have put the hub on top of that to provide some air space underneath. So far no heating issues after 2 days of use. It is barely warm. Portable HDD is on auto sync every day and no problems transferring data. I like the fact that I can connect any level of USB to this without having to figure out at what speed the USB runs, which was my primary reason for buying this hub.

5Great hub
By Mark D. Schnittman
Unknown to a lot of folks, these hubs are unique in the respect that they have a separate controller chip for each USB port on the device, exactly like the design of the ports on your mainboard. Most hubs use 1 controller for all of the ports to save money, which causes all of the ports to run at the LOWEST COMMON SPEED. This is a huge performance hit, in addition to causing lots of the USB problems that folks have with the devices connected to them. I don't know why these aren't more popular, but these hubs are awesome. I wish I could say that about some of Belkin's other products.

5Excellent high power astronomical telescope eyepiece
    By Starman
Having used a Pentax XL 7mm eyepiece for several years with excellent results, I went with this XW 3.5mm when I needed additional magnification. You will not be disappointed with this eyepiece. Contrast is outstanding, and the image is indeed sharp to the edge. Views of the moon and planets through this lens are breathtaking. The eye relief is comfortable enough so that you can enjoy long relaxing views without getting tired or fogging up the glass.Once upon a time using high power meant narrow fields and pressing your eye up against the lens, but not any more. It's hard to believe high power viewing can be this good and this comfortable. You may hear some folks say they got an eyepiece "almost" as good for half the price. There is no almost with this Pentax, and it's worth every penny. I've also tried this eyepiece out in the daytime, and it performs beautifully for terrestrial viewing too.

    5Awesome rack!
    By jalmquist
I looked high and low, east and west, north and south, and I couldn't find any decent rack for my home lab environment. This unit fit the bill perfectly! It includes everything you need, as well as screws to mount your equipment. It's very sturdy, and I don't worry at all about this rack failing on me. I didn't get the casters. I devised my own mobil solution. I bolted on two pieces of 6x4 hardwood to the bottom, and attached 4 heavy-duty casters (up to 1000 pounds).Initially I bought a server rack from ITS Enclosures ([...]), but it wasn't a server rack at all. They ended up keeping my money and sticking me with a hunk of metal that will be difficult for me to even dispose of. Do not buy a "server rack" from ITS Enclosures, because they do not know the first thing about what a server rack is, even know they advertised this as a server rack.

1Do not buy! This rack will not fit servers with rails!
    By shak
Do not make the same mistake I did. This rack is not the correct width, none of my servers with Rails will fit correctly. I am now out several hundred dollars since my servers did not arrive in time for the return window.A correctly built rack should have a width of 17.75 inches. This rack is 17.5 inches.

    5Great 25U rackmount
    By Robert Wurzburg
I saw this rackmount on Amazon and knew it was the one for me after reading the other reviews.A central place to install all my power supply, distribution, UPS backups, networking, dial-up, and printer switchequipment. Every indicator is now on the rack and can tell any system status at a glance in one place, instead ofpoking here and there around my SOHO looking to see the LED's on a component. The instructions were somewhat sparse, though following their advice to start from the top and work your way downdoes work better. First attach the arms on each side not snugged up, starting from the top. Once all the screwsare in each arm, then they can be snugged up. I then installed the center shelf, which proved critical in centeringand squaring everything else up. Next was a final tightening of the arms to the posts, then the center screws ineach arm, working my way from top to bottom each time. Then a final adjustment and tightening of the center shelf, and going back over every screw for a double check in the order mentioned above.Last come the front and rear anti-tip plates, making sure they are flat and level to the floor surface. Once allis secured, the black arm screw access hole caps can be installed. I didn't use the optional casters, and unlessyou are installing over 1000 pounds of servers and other gear, I didn't feel it necessary to bolt it to the woodfloor of the house. Although the weight distribution is towards the front, you can put quite alot on the rear ofthe rack also, especially power distribution and cable management stuff. This rackmount is so flexible in how one can configure it, and the heavy-gauge steel making up the arms and postsprovide excellent support properly assembled. I wish they gave me 6M instead of 5M screws and nuts. I bought the6M Belkin from Amazon, and shelving and cable management parts from various sellers including Amazon. Extra Star-Tech 5M come in handy for lighter shelving, cable management, etc. Save your nice 6M for the heavy stuff like theUPS's, line conditioners and other gear over 10 lbs.Product arrived in excellent condition sold by Amazon, good price and free shipping. My SOHO will be complete withthe Startech 25U rackmount. A final picture will be posted in customer images. HIGHLY recommend to anyone who willtake advantage of this kind of open-air 4-post rackmount system.

5Great PDA.......not for hard core gamers!
    By Jorge Rodriguez
I did much research before getting my e405, I checked reviews and info of two ipaq models (1935 and 1945) and was also considering the Axim X3. Since I'm outside the US I didn't have the opportunity to go to a store and play with them, so I had to base my choice only on my internet research.

I picked the 405 mainly because of the 300mhz processor, the included 32 mb Nand flash memory card(internal), the voice command software, and of course the looks and style. It's not a perfect PocketPC, there are a few flaws as specified below. But since the Axim X3 and both the 1935, 1945 ipaqs has flaws, I judged that the e405's flaws were less severe than the other models.

Looks and form factor: The PDA is incredible light and thin, and also it's very solid, no flex at all. The metal case it's great, the dark blue color it's gorgeus. This is a solid PDA with style. The ipaq it's thicker, and I read that the Axim X3 feels cheap and has flex.

Screen: it's great, nicely saturated, very bright and very responsive to taps. Doesn't have color issues. I read that the 1935 also has a very good screen, but the 1945 has a "yellow tint" issue, in which whites turn yellow when the pda is tilted from your point of view.

Processor: the e405 comes with an Intel xscale 300mhz. The Axim X3 comes with the same processor, but the ipaq 1935 comes with a 203 mhz Samsung processor (not xscale), and the 1945 with a 266 mhz Samsung processor (also not xscale). Both Intel and Samsung processors are ARM, but there are software optimized for Xscale and it's important to mention that all of the mid-range and high-end PocketPCs use Xscale processors. I must say that it seems that most ipaqs owners are very happy with their Samsung processor's performance.

Memory: e405 has 64 mb of ram, 16 mb of Rom, and an additional 32 mb flash rom internal card(all 32 megs are available). The entry level X3 (the one I could afford) only has 32 mb of Ram, and no flash rom disk. Both ipaqs hase 64 mb of ram but also no additional flash rom disk.

Battery: very good. With normal calendar, tasks and notes use, with screen light in Auto-mode, you can get close to 5 hours of battery life. If you listen to mp3's and step up the brightness etc, then 3 1/2 to 4 hours. One flaw with the Battery is that it is not user replaceable, as it is with the Axim X3 or the Ipaqs. This could be a problem in the long run.

Buttons: if you are an occasional gamer then it should be fine, howewer if you are a hard core gamer then the button layout might not fit you. The d-pad it's not made for fast movements and there's a fraction of a second of lag. The apps button surrounds the d-pad making it difficult to operate the d-pad at the same time than the buttons in a game. Also it seems there are some issues on some games when pressing the d-pad at the same time than when pressing one of the apps buttons, it seems to generate lag on the d-pad. I experienced that issue when playing Anthelion. I've tested a few games and they work with no problem: Age of empires, Argentum, Fifa 2002, Anthelion (Playing with the stylus), 4Pinball(reconfiguring the flippers to the apps buttons). As I said if you are a hard core gamer (I'm not one) then you probably should look elsewhere. The Jog wheel, record button and hold button are all very useful, and I think they are not present in the ipaqs or the Axim.

Speaker and sound: one of the few flaws. The speaker is weak, you can tweak it to make it louder so you can better hear your alarms. But on a noisy environment it probably won't be loud enough. I read that the ipaqs speaker are very loud, and also the Axim seems to have a better speaker than the e405's. On the other hand when using headphones the e405 stands out, sound quality is very good and loud, it comes with adjustable treble and bass sliders and the headphone jack it's standard, unlike the ipaqs 1935/1945 which comes with a headphone jack that requires an adapter.

Stylus: another flaw. The stylus it's telescopic, thin and small. Although you end up getting used to it I think Toshiba could've done a better job with it. Both ipaqs and the Axim has better styli.

Voice recognition software: It works very well, it takes time getting used to it but once you learn the voice commands it can be very useful when driving, or to control the mp3 player hands free. One flaw I noticed is that you can't stop or change track in the mp3 using a voice command when a mp3 is playing, I think it's because the mp3 is taking up most of the cpu power, so the voice command software has problems processing a new command.

Other cons: as with most entry level PocketPCs nowadays, the e405 comes with no cradle and no case. I believe that Toshiba should've included both, since the e405 costs $70 more than the older model (e355) and the latter included both a cradle and a slip case. I'm using a Body Glove universal case which protects it very well. Also the e405 doesn't come with any form of wireless(bluetooth or Wi-Fi), that's a plus of the ipaq 1945, which comes with bluetooth, neither the Axim X3 Basic nor the ipaq 1935 comes with wireless.

All around the e405 it's a great PocketPC and I believe it will become popular as an entry level PDA once the discontinued older model (e355) is no longer available. The e405 has some features only available in more expensive PocketPCs (like the nand flash rom disk, the hold button, metal case), it features a great screen and an excellent form factor, fast processor and good amount of memory. Any buyer should evaluate those pros against the real cons (weird stylus, weak speaker, buttons and d-pad not for gaming, not user replaceable battery) and the no-wireless con (which I think it's not much of a con in this price range).

I'm very satisfied with this PDA, so far I don't have any bluetooth or wi-fi devices neither at home or office, and I don't think the company I work with it's going to install an access point any soon, so the no-wireless it's not an inssue for me. I'm an ocassional gamer so the buttons are fine, I'm getting used to the telescopic stylus and the speaker it's audible indoors. The not-user replaceable battery worries me a bit, but my previous PDA didn't have a user-replaceable battery neither and I keep it for 1 1/2 year and then sell it, and the battery was in very good shape, so if I can do the same thing with the e405 then I'll be happy.

If I had a bigger budget I'd probably would've gone with the Ipaq 2215($380 when I bought the e405), but in the price range I can afford I think the e405 it's a better choice than the Ipaq 1935 or the Axim X3 Basic. The ipaq 1945 it's very on par with the e405, but the yellow tint issue of the 1945's screen it's a deal-breaker for me.

4fast, clean, bright, and easy to use; however, 1 flaw

Prior to picking up this Toshiba I was playing around with and testing the Dell Axium X3 and HP Ipaq 1945. After toying and fiddling with the three devices over the course of 2 weeks or so I decided to keep the Toshiba over both the HP and Dell. Reason for this is the ease, use, and accessibility of the e405. The device is very light, believe its just over 4 ounces, the screen is very bright (even at when first turned on at 70%), and more than anything else when installing pocketpc software and utilities onto my e405 it never once crashed as opposed to Axiom which crashed twice and the Ipaq which no longer was able to detect the SD card I plugged into it after installing some bundled software (it should be noted that the Ipaq did not crash but seemed to have some minor discrepancies or bugs).Essentially, I would recommend the Toshiba e405 to any 1st time PDA user or buyer who wants a device which is dependable, fast (even when with hordes of software installed or utilized through SD card), and almost un-noticeable given how light it is. However, the one major downfall to this device is the fact that Toshiba did not integrate neither Bluetooth nor Wi-Fi. If it were not for this, essential, feature the e405 would be swinging alot of HP's business away.

    5Excellent Entry level PDA
    By A Customer
After looking at virtually all PDA's in both Palm and Pocket PC format, I chose the latter and preferred the Toshiba to the IPAQ series due to a brighter screen, no yellow tint with off angle viewing, a nice proprietary voice recorder which is easier to use than the standard Pocket PC recorder, and a useful enhanced proprietary Home display which, amongst other things, shows the battery level clearly.

The unit has worked flawlessly for the two months I have owned it. Battery capacity is adequate and it can be recharged whenever desired since it is NiMH. Although the battery is not replaceable by the user, it can be sent back to Toshiba for a cost of about $125, according to the manufacturer, which estimates its life to be about 2 years with normal usage and proper maintenance. For those who don't want to take the risk of battery failure, or who plan to keep the same unit for many years, this would be an obvious major negative of this PDA.

The flagship E805 model has the best display(larger, brighter) out there, IMHO, as well as an easily changeable battery, but if you don't have the need for its larger internal memory, WiFi, or the hi res option(currently with limited applications available), I found it not worth the extra cost. It is also larger in all dimensions, and heavier than the 405, but not dramatically so.

The Microsoft ActiveSynch works very well with my computer, and is the way to go whenever possible for entering data, since punching the PDA's keyboard with a stylet is painful compared to a standard computer keyboard. Although this can be overcome by using a portable keyboard which can synch with the PDA, it is possible through the main computer to set up a folder hierarchy sychronizeable with the PDA which I could not do within the Pocket PC format alone.

Many reviewers have complained about Toshiba's stylus, but I have had no difficulties with it whatsoever. The E405's controls are well laid out. The off/on switch is slightly clumsy to use, but a very minor detraction from an overall excellent unit indeed.
