5AWESOME product, very powerful..."little goes a LONG way"!
By J. Porter
This is everything it is claimed to be! It completely turned the problems I was having with my skin around! Warning, though...IT IS STRONG! Be sure to consider the skin type you have and only "baby step" into the strength of this product. It comes in 1X - 3X. I recommend taking it slowly. I ordered the 3X right off the bat because I have a problem with my (age 55) skin sloughing off dead skin cells. This caused minor break-outs and dull skin. Literally, with one application of Affirm 3X, my skin felt different...AWESOME! It did make me peel like a snake skin though. I think I "over did" at first. Then when I backed off a little, I now have it working perfectly. I can see such a difference in my skin texture, smaller pores, completely cleared any problem areas I was having and I can see such a reduction in wrinkles already. I will definitely continue using this product. With the 3X strength I use it about twice weekly right now. I have also discovered an AMAZING, MIRACLE exfoliating cloth that I use at night to clean my face! Makes your face feel like baby skin. I LOVE IT, TOO! (Claroderm Micropeeling and Cleansing Cloth. You can get it on Amazon, too)

5Amazing Results
By Amanda Payne
I tried Afirm 3X in place of Retin A in the Obagi Nu-Derm plan because I was nervous about jumping right into the harsh effects of tretinoin cream...The results were AMAZING. Within a few days this product had me gently but rapidly turning over new skin. My moderate hyperpigmentation disappeared within a couple of weeks...even before I moved up to the prescription vitamin A products that are part of the Obagi system. I used Afirm for several weeks and gradually prepared my skin for the more aggressive Vitamin A in Retin A or Tretinoin. Afirm 3X helped me completely avoid the red peeling and discomfort expected in the initial weeks of Obagi. LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!!BTW, I started the system for some moderate sun damage and discoloration, but the bonus is that my wrinkles are GONE. (the ocassional mild acne breakouts have also stopped completely) I was recently forced to leave a little neighborhood pub until I could come back and produce my driver's license to prove I was 21. I will be 40 in 3 months...maybe the bartender was sipping a little behind the bar before I got there...but I credit this product working in conjunction with the hydroquinone of Obagi-- Admitedly, the poor lighting in that filthy bar didn't hurt either. Good luck!!!

5Pleasantly surprised
By Ty
I found this to be a great product! I wasn't so sure that it would be, given the price. It's much cheaper than, but works just as well as the higher priced alternatives. Maybe better, being that there wasn't the usual problem of my skin having to adjust to the harshness of the product. No irritation or sensitivity. I will definitely purchase this product again.

4Impressive for its size and price.
By dsrussell
Note: Believe it or not, I've cut this review almost in half (I'm long winded, especially when it concerns audio). There is an excellent article on subs (and dead zones) that explains these issues much better than I: [...]This is the first subwoofer I have owned (it was a Christmas gift from my son), so I'm not what you'd call an expert on this particular subject. However, I've owned high-end audio equipment since the 70s, and I try to keep informed. I admit that I was very hesitant about an inexpensive subwoofer. How can a sub at this price be anything but trouble, or worse yet, a headache? I do not like (actually, I despise) boomy, muddy or distorted bass. Now that I've gotten the basics out of the way, let's talk about BIC and this subwoofer ... and there is a lot to talk about.BIC America (formerly known as British Industry Corporation) has been around since the 60s, first as audio distributors, then began designing and manufacturing speaker systems in the early 70s. Matter-of-fact, I remember when BIC's first speaker systems hit the market. They were known for solid sound on a fairly tight budget back then, and apparently that may be the case today. My BIC V-1220, although designed in the U.S.A., was built in China (there is no escape...). It is an 8 ohm, 12-inch down-firing design that is rated from 23 Hz to 180 Hz (but no plus/minus dB range was given). The 23 Hz spec came as a big surprise, but omitting the dB range left me suspicious. It comes with a 200 watt RMS continuous power BASH-designed amplifier (430 watt RMS peaks). This too was a big and very pleasant surprise, especially for a sub in this price range. The fit and finish (it's darker than what is pictured, at least mine is) is certainly good, but not exceptional (there are many subs with beautiful cabinetry work and wood finishes, which obviously ups the price accordingly). I consider the enclosure size on this model about medium sized or a bit below. It weighs in at just over 40 pounds, which makes it fairly easy to handle. It comes with coned feet to help isolate the sub and keep vibrations at a minimum when placed on hardwood floors. This sub is not magnetically shielded, so it's a good idea to keep it a foot or two away from your TV.Besides this 12-inch model, BIC also has 8, 10 and 15-inch models in the V-series line, and all have what BIC designs and calls a "Venturi" vent (eliminates port noise). BIC warranties these speakers for 7 years (2 years on the amplifier). I found the manual (that covers the 8, 10 and 12-inch versions) to be clear and concise and their customer service responsive (they immediately answered all my email queries). The V-series comes with a fairly wide range of inputs and controls. There is an RCA sub input port. This is what I and most people will use with a receiver's sub output port (often referred to as an LFE or Low Frequency Effects port). There are also speaker wire connections (often referred to as high level inputs) to connect from one's receiver and out to one's front speakers (for those that may have older receivers without a sub output port). There is a volume or gain control as well as an adjustable variable crossover control (from 40 Hz to 180 Hz). It comes with an "off", "auto" (automatic signal sensing), "on" toggle switch (I use auto signal sensing mode). There is a two-position toggle switch for one's receiver type (Dolby Pro-Logic or Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1, 6.1, 7.1). Also included is a simplistic two-position Phase Control switch ("0" or in phase or 180-degrees out of phase). One may need to use this depending upon speaker and sub placement, as well as crossover overlap. Have someone toggle between the two settings as you listen. So how does the BIC V-1220 sound and feel? First realize that speaker selection is highly and personally subjective, far more so than any other component or piece of electronics. And what I like and you like can be quite different (which is why I don't like recommending speaker systems, that and my audiophile days are behind me). What I'm saying is, audition any speaker system (if you can) before buying. You also need to realize that this sub requires a break-in period (suggested by owners to be around 40 to 60 hours) because of the butyl rubber in its surround construction (butyl rubber, while very flexible and more resistant to aging and weathering than other materials, is obviously heavier and denser than the foam used in many surrounds). I was surprised that BIC does not mention a break-in period, but anyone owning a BIC speaker system will tell you not to judge it until you've used it for several weeks or more (I've owned this sub for over a month now).Once I went through the break-in period (which took a little over two weeks), and once I experimented with the location (and dead zones), the gain and crossover (which took another week or so of tweaking and futzing around), this sub began to really perform. The LFE contained in movies came alive. Thunder was thunderous and, more importantly, there was no muddying, no booming or tubbiness, nor did it bottom out. It took awhile, but this subwoofer began putting a smile on my face. Better yet, it seems to be getting a little better as the weeks pass (I was told this would happen, and would continue to happen for several months ... we shall see). As of right now, I find the BIC V-1220 fills most (there are dead zones) of my average size, open-ended room (12 x 15 feet with a 10-foot high ceiling) with solid, tight low frequency sound, and offers some serious impact that one can readily feel. Thankfully, I also find this sub musical (it's not just for listening to LFE content in movies). I was especially impressed with Roger Water's concert dvd, IN THE FLESH.How do I rate it? While I believe this subwoofer is an excellent value (perhaps even exceptional), I'm hard pressed to give it 5 stars. Why? Because I haven't heard the competition (I have listened extensively to my son's 15-inch sub, but that is not a fair comparison) and I'm reluctant to praise it too highly in the blind (although I think I've already done so). What I will give it is an 8 out of 10, or a solid 4-star rating. Make no mistake, this is a serious subwoofer (where the term "sub" actually means something), which is hard to imagine in a sub this size and price level. Am I still suspicious of the 23 Hz rating? Not nearly as much, but I won't pass final judgement until several more months have elapsed. One last note. I haven't talked about the high-end subwoofer market. Just know that many of these great subs would probably smoke this BIC (some are rated FLAT below 18 Hz). But we are talking apples and oranges here. High-end home subwoofers begin at around four or five hundred dollars, average between seven hundred to a thousand dollars, and can even top four thousand dollars (and often weigh sixty, eighty and up to a hundred pounds or more). For instance, take a look at one of the Thiel subwoofers (I believe it's the SS4 with 1,000 watt amplifier rated from 10 Hz to 300 Hz). It has two 15-inch woofers, special circuitry and weighs in at just under 300 lbs (with a price tag of around 9 grand). Like I said, apples and oranges (and the law of diminishing returns).

4Better for home theater than music
By S. Schwalm
In the past I've mostly used my stereo for listening to two channel music. I like a variety of types of music, but I am not particularly enamored of rap nor do I frequently want to create the feel of a nightclub in my home. For general music listening, I've always believed a good pair of mains to be superior to small mains + subwoofer (I still do), so I've never previously bothered with a sub. However, I got to playing around with the idea of extending my stereo to home theater last year and couldn't resist.I purchased the BIC V1220 without auditioning it based on the many positive reviews I'd read and the fact that it was relatively inexpensive for a 12" subwoofer. I'm pretty happy with it, in part because I didn't want much from it. I have it crossed over at the amplifier at 60Hz, and at that frequency it blends well with my mains (a pair of Kef 104/2) for music and adds significant rumble to movies. It's terrific fun when watching an action movie, and adds just a little bit of thump to the percussion when listening to music. That said, when I move the crossover up to 80Hz, which is popular for many systems, I find the bass to be noticeably distorted compared to my mains when sampling a variety of bass heavy music (organ, percussion, etc.). Therefore, I do not recommend this subwoofer if you are looking to mate it with mains that can't dependably carry the weight to 60Hz (almost no bookshelf speakers can), although you may be satisfied with such a system if it will not be used primarily for music listening. I also don't recommend it to anyone living in a wood frame building with shared walls, floors or ceilings - that's just not neighborly!A couple other details to consider. First, as has been commented on previously, the only feet provided are sort of plastic carpet spikes and might be awkward on a wood floor. Also, the finish is kind of a charcoal gray, so it doesn't blend perfectly with typical "black ash" gear, in case that is important to you.Pros: Price, power, excellent explosionsCons: Limited range for critical listening

5Does its job without drawing attention to itself
By M. Smith
The BIC V1220 is a 12" powered subwoofer that adds a solid low end to music and home video setups without making the sound heavy or boomy. My main speakers, a pair of restored Dyanco A-25s, have very smooth bass and go down to about 60 Hz. I was looking for a subwoofer that would fill in the lowest frequencies without muddying the sound of the A-25s. The V1220 does so nicely. The BIC subwoofer adds impact to movie sound effects -- even unexpected things like when Dorothy's house falls into Munchkin Land have a surprising impact, while the earthquake at the beginning of "Lora Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life" rattles my windows. All in all, movie sound effects are handled well. Movies aside, the subwoofer also does very well with music recordings. The string bass on Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" (from Time Out) has a solid impact when first plucked, yet the twang of the vibrating string is not obscured by boominess. The big bass drum at the end of Telarc's recording of "The Firebird Suite" rattles my windows as much as Lora Croft's earthquake. As a bonus, the fact that the subwoofer is not in the same location as the main speakers seems to smooth out the bass response of my listening room. With the subwoofer in the center of the front wall, a Radio Shack sound level meter shows the subwoofer has useful response down to 31 Hz (it would go somewhat lower if the speaker was in a corner). 31 Hz may not seem very low, but is actually good response for a real speaker in a real room -- as opposed to ideal test conditions, though pipe organ enthusiasts may want to look elsewhere.Setup is quite flexible, with continuously-variable adjustments for volume level and crossover point (40-180 Hz), a two position switch for phase, and a switch for Dolby 5.1 or Dolby Prologic receivers. There are both line level and speaker level inputs. The setup instructions are clear and should give good results if followed closely. The V1220 is relatively large (18 1/2 X 17 x 14 inches) and weighs 41 pounds, so this is not a shoebox you can hide under a piece of furniture. The tradeoff in size is very smooth and powerful bass. The speaker is finished in black wood grain laminate, and seems well-made. The bass port is on the side, so the speaker can be positioned against a wall without obstructing the vent. Another reviewer was concerned that the spike feet might damage floors. I have hardwood floors and agree that the spikes, though rounded, could do damage if dragged over floors. I positioned the speaker first, then gently lowered it without dragging. The BIC V1220 does everything I wanted: impact on movie sound effects, plus a solid non-boomy low bass with music recordings. The subwoofer does its job without drawing attention to itself -- it's there when it's needed, and not there when it's not needed. At just over $200, it's a bargain.

4The BIC V-1020 is the V-1220's little brother...
By dsrussell
...except it doesn't perform like a little brother. I'm going to keep this short (short for me, anyway). To find a more detailed review of BIC subwoofers, see my long-winded review on the 12-inch V-1220.My normal disclaimer: If you can, listen to any speaker system you are interested in before buying (and don't rely on other people's opinion, and that certainly includes mine).Initially, I was going to purchase the 100 watt, 8-inch V80. But once I saw the price of the 10-inch V-1020, I couldn't pass it up. I use the V-1220 in the family room, while this V-1020 model is placed in the computer room (smaller area and much smaller volume). And like all BIC speaker systems, it requires a break in period (around 40 to 60 hours), so don't judge it until it has been fully broken in (I've had this sub for about a month now). How does the V-1020 compare to its bigger brother? I find only minor differences between the two (other than the 12-inch model will obviously go deeper). Both have BASH-designed amplifiers -- this one rated at 160 watts RMS vs 200 watts RMS for the V-1220, and each have the exact same control panel, external finish, Venturi vent, and coned feet. The specs state that this model goes down to 26 Hz (compared to 23 Hz for the V-1220). There is an old saying, "Location, location, location", and this applies to subwoofers as well as to real estate. Once you've broken this puppy in and have found the right crossover for your main speakers, try several locations to see how it performs in your environment. Understand that there will be dead zones (it's the nature of any subwoofer), and moving your sub around to mitigate these dead zones is standard procedure. While there are plenty of outstanding subs that will reach deeper than the V-1020 (some significantly so), good luck finding one to match it at close to this price level. By any account, this is a price to performance leader (as is the V-1220), and should be given some serious thought. Its bass is solid, tight and surprisingly deep for a sub of this size. BIC proves in most of their speaker lines that a low price tag doesn't always mean low quality. Between 1 and 10, I rate the V-1020 an 8 (or a 4-star rating), which is the same rating I gave to its big brother.

5More thump, less money
By DMA
This unit replaced a KLH 10" E10 subwoofer, and MAN, what a difference! The V1020's workmanship seems great; a nice polished ash-grey woodgrain finish, beveled edges, perfect fit & finish -- it feels very solid. I almost went for the V1220, but it was a little too large for the intended spot in my bedroom. This unit actually has a slightly smaller footprint than the KLH; it fits perfectly next to my system. The V1020's auto-on works much better than the KLH's, too - it rarely drops the receiver's sub signal, even at lower volumes. I like the fact that the BIC has a selectable input - you can choose whether or not to use the internal crossover.I really like the sound! The KLH was very boomy and flabby-sounding, but this unit's bass is tight and focused - very precise - and it goes plenty low for me (the specs say it goes down to 26Hz).If BIC's other speakers are as well-made and great-sounding as this sub, I might just have to replace the rest of my speakers!

5Sound of reason
By Sudev Mukherjee
I tried thwo different sub woofer before settling for this one. I have the Polk Audio rm10 5 speaker set, for my room size is rather small(18'x12') and its a townhome so I have to keep things low, you know what I mean. The first one I tried after reading a barrage of good reviews in Amazon is Polk PSW 10, which to be very honest with you should not be called a sub woofer, because it all it does is some rumble sound and no base, next I tried the HSU STF-1, which I must say a fantastic product, had I have a bigger room and more powerful speaker set I would have settled for it, but my speakers were too small for it, so I finally ordered the Bic 1020, after researching that it has almost similar spec as with the STF-1, and boy what a choice, it is a perfect match for my system. The base is perfect and also comes with a frequency adjustment knob which helps you to fine tune the base output from your system. In case you are wondering I use a Yamaha 6130 Receiver. I would recommend this sub woofers to everyone, you can't beat this performance to the price they offer it.

5great small speaker for great price
By D. Hill
I've been buying BIC products since the mid 90's, and I've always found them to be high on the 'bang for the buck' meter. I've owned JBL, Klipsch, and a few others in the past, but I keep going back to BIC.These speakers are really quite nice. First of all, although the product listing doesn't specify it too well, these are sold in pairs. Each speaker weighs a little less than 6 pounds, which is about average for their size. They come with the cloth grilles already installed, but there are metal screens for those who want to use these speakers outdoors. I bought 2 pairs, for use as the front and rear channels in a 5.1 setup.Although they have a pretty wide range, I still set my receiver to 'small' for speaker size, but I was able to set the crossover at 80Hz, which is pretty good for satellite sized speakers, I think. The Klipsch satellites I was using before I bought these were set at 150, and that was probably still a bit of wishful thinking.I was fairly pleased with the sound they produced, it was very full and warm. With the receiver's volume at its loudest 'comfortable' listening level, there was no sign of distortion of any kind. They just did a great job, and really added a lot to our home theater experience. Before buying these, I did a LOT of research, went to my local A/V store and auditioned several competing brands (Klipsch, Energy, Polk), and couldn't find a compelling reason to spend more money on another brand, when the BIC were just as good as I expected them to be.I ended up ordering the DV52CLR center channel speaker to replace my 14 year old BIC center speaker, and at some point I'll buy one of their newer subs to replace the 10 year old BIC 10" model I currently use.I wish there were more pictures of the backs of these speakers out there, because you have to really see it to appreciate it. They have an angled back that makes them absolutely perfect for cieling or corner mounting. They include drilling templates and instructions for a variety of mounting options, and since they're relatively light-weight, it doesn't take a whole lot to anchor them securely. My receiver can do 7.1, and I'm already planning to pick up another pair of these in a month or so to finish out the set. I don't hesitate to recommend them.Yes, there are better sounding small-format speakers out there, but they don't really come close in terms of price versus performance. I was prepared to pay per speaker what I ended up paying for a PAIR.

4Intelligent Design
By Landon G. Jaggers
I added the DV52Si speakers to my 5.1 system as rear surround speakers. I was initially worried that the plastic enclosure would affect the overall sound quality and that they would not match the sound coming from my speakers in wooden enclosures. It turns out I worried in vain. These speakers sound perfectly natural, even with complex musical soundtracks. They also look very attractive mounted on my back wall. They sport a very unique shape that satisfies my aesthetic expectations. I will probably have these little guys for a while.

5Good little speaker
By fcWA
I purchased this speaker for outdoor use because of all of the positive reviews. I must say the reviews are correct. Because of the price value of this one speaker purchase, I will be updating my HTIB speaker system with BIC America. Hard to beat this sound for the money paid.

5Absolutely Delicious!
By Ismael C. Alvarez
I purchased these based on previous love affairs with pickled pigs feet and pickled pork tidbits by Hormel and other positive reviews of this particular companies other pickled products. Well, I can attest that these are the BEST-tasting and meatiest hocks I've ever had!Expensive, yes...but most definitely worth it! These bad boys are so good I feel reluctant to share them! I will most certainly get some more when I get to the second jar!

4OHMYGOSH!

Hound... Hound, Hound, Hound, Hound... How I love this Transformer! He was my favorite in the show and now we get a Masterpiece-Scale Alternators figure with show acurate features (okay, maybe not perfect but give him a break, IT'S HOUND!) He has rubber tires, chrome, clear plastic headlights and windhiselds, a flip-up faction symbol, and a hidden gun compartment in his spare tire holder. The only thing he does not have is a shoulder cannon! His articulation is terrific and his features are spot-on!Keep in mind, this is an Alternator, a dead line to most, and as such he has some bits that can fall off or break. Do not get this for your five year old. In fact, don't get it for your thirteen year old either! Get it for the eighteen year old who still collects Transformers. He will have the reverence to take care of the toy properly. Not to say he is filled with breaky-bits, but he isn't the SMASH AND BASH toy that your five year old needs. Get them a WALK AND TALK robot instead.

Product Description

The NEW Spode Judaica Menorah is a unique candelabra that makes a perfect centerpiece for the Hanukkah candle-lighting, used during the Festival of Lights celebration. The shape and all-over design of this piece make it a cherished year-round decorative accent. The design on the Spode Judaica Menorah is based on historic Judaic manuscripts from the 1880's, influenced by early ceramic tile motifs, and features the traditional Judaic colors of blue and white. The dominant motif consists of stylized flowers and vines, interwoven amongst the artistic blue and white rendering of an exquisite candelabra on either side of the piece.
