3Unable to kill EFX with a Latching footswitch!
By Ronald Finizio
The Alesis MicroVerb 4 does NOT allow the killing of the EFX via a "latching foot switch."This is a major flaw for us since we use a latching/toggle switch to kill the EFX during a live performance. Our previous Alesis MidiVerb II model DID allow us to access the EFX with a "latching foot switch."I hope this insight was helpful to someone who also uses a "latching" switch for their live performance controls on stage. This Alesis MicroVerb 4 model foot switch EFX kill option is completely useless to us, since it will NOT work with a toggle switch.

4"Premium", but it's questionable whether it is professional
By Reticuli
5/22/2009:I had the internal power supplies on my Axis 8s rebuilt locally for cheap and my tech used better caps, resistors, and other parts. The below mentioned freezes and cold-start callibrations are no longer valid in my case, though Numark should be scolded for using such low-tolerance pieces on such sophisticated designs. The high frequency response is still troubling. If you have the 9's, try and utilize the digital outs.----First, a note on calibration. This is the procedure I've come up with:1. Turn the unit on.2. Switch to 6% pitch.3. Start Numark's callibration by properly going through the pitch range.4. Spin the wheel clockwise while pressing Loop 1 in/out/reloop and Loop 2 in/out.5. Switch back to 6% pitch since it changes to 12%.6. Go through the pitch range to ensure it is working properly. If it is not, turn the unit off, wait 5-10 seconds, then start over at #1 again.7. Assuming the pitch is working correctly now, turn off Auto Open by pressing Program + Eject.8. Press SGL to enable single play again.9. Hit eject, and once the unit is open gently press up on the underside of the tray to cause the mechanism to work any possible kinks out.10. Hit eject again to close the tray. You're ready to use it.Good:The Axis 8, 9, CDN-90, and CDX make great MIDI controllers of external sequencers if used correctly in SmartLoop mode and you apply a little ingenuity. The effects work well. 2-5 on the phaser, a little down on the mixer's treble, and a touch of extra bass matches to the sound of the Whitelabel cartridges. The pitch resolution is about .025% at 6% range and .05 or better on all the other ranges.Firmware upgrades are easy.Bad:The extensive calibration procedure necessary to prevent skips, freezes, or accidental closing of the tray.MIDI is poor if you are attempting to sync to an actual CD song playing on that deck.Pitching down with keylock on (keying up) will cause enough distortion of the sound as to make the function worthless unless you are keying down and/or pitching up. Keylock is more useful for locking after you've pitched to your beatmatch speed and you want to hide the pitch bending you'll be doing. The pitch accuracy is poor to the point that actual useable resolution is only about twice the resolution at the lower settings. So for 6% you'll get closer to .05%, and on the others it's closer to about .1% in the real world. This is due to the pitch wavering by one unit increment in either direction. 25% is fairly stable to .1% of its actual resolution, but you really need to baby-sit the 100% range.I do not like how the display doesn't actually show the true pitch resolution. The percent range should have a one hundredth digit to show you the actual setting, not rounded to the nearest .1%. In the lower ranges the 1 in "100" is not used, so they could have simply moved things over when in any other range. Perhaps Numark was worried people would freak out when they saw the exact pitch quantity wavering. If you cover up that portion of the display with some non-residue studio tape, that can make things more intuitive for mixing. Finally, Numark's CD players (at least the Axis 8's I own) appear to be missing a Low-Pass filter to lop off the highest frequencies at the post-DAC filter stage, or they implemented the wrong one. If you do a frequency test sweep on the unit it will show a strong upward slope on the top few octaves that will make CD's much brighter than they should be. At 20khz it's more than 5dB louder than it should be, and I find that quite troubling.I went through 8 Axis 8's and one additional repair before I got two that worked correctly and was instrumental in helping the company nail down problems with the design, particularly the MIDI system. But there are still obviously some design choices I'm displeased with, so I would like to just give it 3 stars and be kind to it only for being cheap. The MIDI system, however, bumps it back up to 4 stars for me.

4Great for starters and bedroom DJs
By A. Miller
Given the low price and loaded features, the Axis 9 has probably the highest value of any cd turntable currently on the market. It has solid performance with plenty of gadgets to keep you occupied. One problem which makes this turntable not suitable for professional use is the slight stutter when the key lock is in place. The problem is only slight and intermittent, but will drive you completely crazy if you are a perfectionist. Otherwise, for beginners and bedroom DJs this is the best cd turntable out there.

2I must have bought a lemon
By J. Harrison
I don't know if my problem was typical or not, but I had an Axis 9 for less than a year before the display began to glitch and the player started taking longer and longer to cue. Before long, it stopped playing altogether. Mind you, it never left the bedroom - it wasn't dropped, shipped, or otherwise mistreated. I took it for repair at a reputable shop and was told it wasn't repairable. Bam - out 400 bucks.Again- don't know if this is typical Numark quality or not, but I'm switching to Pioneer.I will say, I did enjoy it while it worked. The effects were cool, and the re-start function allowed for some unique mixing. The short lifespan turneed me off unfortunately.

5Fun Fact
By Hayden Fant
If you have the brick where you can curve it and a 1x3 brick the 1x1 brick and the brick with the flat then in the middle a stud and a 1x2 brick then you can make curves out of straights(works with rc track to). put the flat brick with the 1 stud and the 1x1 stud on the 1x3 stud and connect that to the outside of 2 track pieces. get the curved brick and connect it on the inside then put the 1x2 brick on the curved piece and its done. If you didnt get this go to u tube and go to lego9vtrainfan's site and find the video for this

4Bang for Buck
By Greg
The guv'nor plus is a very good pedal for the money. I got this on sale for $59.00. I don't think you could do any better on another pedal. It is very warm tonally. The distortion is more like a hot overdrive, which I like. I'am not into ultra high gain stuff. It does mild crunch very well. The eq is pretty good. It gives you more control than standard low/high tone controls. It can give your amp a nice big 4/12 cab sound. It's too bad Marshall doesn't make them any more.

5sounds as good or better than most
By Gene Wallace
I've been playing for over 40 years, owned many Marshall amps. This is the first Marshall pedal for me. It sounds great with my Fender and Marshall amps. It has a wide range of distortion, from grunge to near new metal. Compared to other OD pedals I've had it's a steal for the asking price. I've owned/own Fulltone, Visual Sound, Radial, Electro Harmony, Vox, Barber, many others. It's a nice OD with many options to tune it the sound you want and it plays well with all the amps I have tried it with.

5Awesome pedal for the price
By Brett Husebye
For 19.99 this thing is a tone tank. Heavy, well built. I demo'd it for the first time a few days ago and it rocked. Anywhere from blues to old school rock-n-roll this will cover it and for the price you cant beat it.

4Not really what it's promoted as, but that's not why I bought it
By El Freak
Marshall's advertising for this pedal promotes it as a metal pedal, but that's really not where it's strength lies. It is capable of that scooped-mid Metallica style crunch, but it is so much more versatile than that. There are two modes: overdrive and distortion. The overdrive mode is where this pedal really shines. Without using the contour knob, the gain knob provides for an excellent early Eric Clapton "Bluesbreaker" style tone on low settings to a Appetite for Destruction style tone on the high gain settings. With the gain turned all the way up and with some tweaking of the contour and frequency knobs you can get that scooped mid metal tone, which I personally have little need for and which, honestly, I think is better done by many other OD pedals.I am more of a country/blues/rockabilly/classic rock style player, and the overdrive on this thing suits most of my needs perfectly. The distortion mode is a major letdown though. It is voiced with entirely too much low end, and you'll have to do some major fiddling with the eq knobs to even get a sound that is halfway passable. Not really worth the effort. Without this issue this pedal would be a 5 star piece of equipment. But as I said before the overdrive mode is phenomenal for a pedal in this price range and definitely deserves the Marshall name.

5Amazing mini synth with vocoder
By Vynny
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2P8YN112E62K9 I have another video review for the Korg M50 61 Key Synthesizer Workstation which is similar to this video review so feel free to check it out if you get chance.I purchased the microkorg more for the vocoder than the soft-synth but I have to say that both elements are equally stunning. Now this video review of the MicroKorg only covers the very basics - think of it as an overview from someone who has had enough time to play with the keyboard, but has yet to fully get into the deep side of the programming. I haven't even skimmed the surface of what this keyboard can do in terms of sound and versatility. The synth sounds themselves are amazing as you will hear from the video, and that's despite me using the camera's onboard mic to record. And the vocoder is every ELO fan's dream!Really for the price there's nothing on the market and it should be in every keyboard musician's toolkit, whether you're a studio performer or a live player. I feel that even the 'sequel' to the MicroKorg, the MicroKorg XL,is less useful as it relies more on connection with a computer than hands-on in the field programming that the MicroKorg can do.Anyway - have a look at the video and see what you think. Personally I love it!

5I can't believe the size, the price, or the sound
By BENJAMIN MILER
The MicroKorg is probably the finest synth you'll ever get at that price. It's very small (same size as many of those toy keyboards you grew up as a kid, but this is no toy), and has 37 keys, although the big criticisms here is Korg opted for toy keyboard-sized keys, rather than full-sized keys (the similar sized and similarly priced Alesis Micron, also 37 keys, used full-sized keys). It's a four note polyphonic virtual analog synth capable of fantastic analog sounds, with all the great sounds of the '70s, '80s, and '90s! It's essentially a Korg MS-2000 in a small package, but with an 8-band vocoder (instead of 16-band), and a superior arpeggiator, great for all you electronica and techno buffs out there, or those who want to create Tangerine Dream-like rhythms without the bulky gear that group had to use back in the glory days of the mid '70s. I've been aware of vocoders for ages, and of course, was a huge trademark in Kraftwerk's sound (they started using vocoders starting with 1973's Ralf & Florian, which is one album prior to their famous breakthrough, Autobahn), I am so happy to now personally own a vocoder, that is, one included in a synth. It has a condensor microphone for use of a vocoder, although you can hook up any standard microphone too. Like most any synth made in the last 20-25 years, it's MIDI, so you can have it interact with other MIDI synths, drum machines, your computer, or any other MIDI device.Although it comes with an AC adapter for home and studio use, you'll be happy that you can use 6 AA batteries, so you can bring it with you on your next camping adventure (plus it has a headphone jack too, since hooking it up to speakers might be a bit difficult in the Great Outdoors). It's also fully programmable, you can alter the sounds already included, or you can erase one of the settings and start from scratch. I really love the features you can do here. You can have it polyphonic, or monophonic for use of soloing, or retro-'70s analog sounds. It has two oscillators, you have many different choices of waveforms. You can edit the arpeggiator so you can get it to do different rhythms (it can do up to a sequence of 8 notes). I also really like the delay feature, to get that echo sound when you release the note, it really gives it a fuller sound. You can get it to pan for that wonderful stereo effect, or select a phasor. You can even program it to have the pitch wheel and modulation wheel do things, such as altering pitch, the resonance, vibrato, etc. There'e two edit knobs, and five more knobs to help you with the programming. But I very much suggest you read the instruction manual, or you might have a hard time programming it. But once you get a hang of it, you'll have a ton of fun programming your own sounds and see what you can do. Despite the keys itself, it's actually a fully professional synthesizer. The MicroKorg might be geared for the younger audience, thanks to its low price and many of the techno sounds it can do, but Jean Michel Jarre uses one and he's hardly young. Not to mention you can make it do a lot of non-techno sounds too, like classic '70s analog sounds, or '80s polyphonic synth sounds (like what you hear on Van Halen's "Jump") so it doesn't just appeal to the young segment. It's great see many professional musicians using it from Jean Michel Jarre right down to Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran. I even saw a documentary directed by Hans Fjellestad called Moog, which was about Robert Moog and of Moog synthesizers, and they showed several techno/electronic groups where the main emphasis was on their Moog gear (naturally), but one group was clearly shown with a MicroKorg. This is no 88 key workstation, that's for sure. In some cases that's a good thing, especially if you like in a small apartment and you're concerned about space, but for such a small synth, I am completely blown away at what this can do. You really need to try and buy this synth, you won't be disappointed!

5so itll set you back about 400
By M. Radovilskiy
bucks but, this product is frekin awesome, i bought it and i am glad i did, the synths are full programmable, the best thing about this synth is that it is SO versatile, has many banks to make and save sounds on, comes with a manual thats clearly laid out. it has a headphones out (1/4") stereo out L & R (2 1/4") dynamic 1/4" and included condenser mic (with mic in) line in and a midi in, out and thru. i am glad because i can use some other midi device to control its tiny keyboard. one of the coolest things i didnt know about the keyboard when i bought it, was it has a 6 AA battery panel to power it, so u dont need wall outlet, the sound quality is fantastic, i had it hooked up mono so im sure stereo is phatty. the synths have a wide range of dynamic controls, and sound like big bucks, for the money you pay for it. it only has truly 3 downsides1. small cheap feel keyboard (can be a plus because the unit is quite portable)2. few knobs to get the job done, so you have to go through each set of sound variables to really program the sound, which makes it difficult to do it live.but once u programmed your sound to where u want to play with only few variables you have got it down3. ive noticed that almost always i have to turn the knob to its full range, both up and down for it to activate its function as if it re-calibrates everytime on its range of motion (in order to edit a variable, such as arpegiator gate time)i do recomend you try the unit at a store before buying amazon, so you can see if this unit is for you, overall with its limitations, and functionality and quality, i must say this unit IS for me! thank you KORG!

5Sounds like it's bigger brothers
By Eric
I got this amp, hoping it would recreate the tube sound of the bigger vox tube amps, namely my gigging amp, the AC15. I was very impressed. I much prefer to use this amp as a practice amp: it's lightweight, loud enough, great clean sounds, takes my pedal board great, and it's solid state: no tubes to replace. The onboard overdrive isn't nearly as good as Vox's tube overdrives on the big amps, but I just use the clean settings and use my effects, which it does perfectly. If you are looking for a great amp to practice with that won't break the bank, this is it.I've had 4 Vox amps, in order of favorite:1- AC152- Pathfinder3- AC44- AD50

5Mini Rocker Amp
By Robinsos
This amp is pretty good for the price. It has nice clean tones and the overdrive ramps it up. What I've done is put a mic up to it when I want to crank things up & run it through my big old Peavey amp and then it sounds pretty incredible. I recommend this amp and commend Vox for making a small amp for use in an apartment that sounds cool like a big expensive Vox but is low wattage/volume.

5Nice sound in a small light package
By David Chall
I bought this for my 7 year old for his first practice amp. When the box came I was worried, it looks bigger in the picture online and I didn't think that for something so small I was going to be impressed. I listened to a few small amps at Best buy that distorted too soon and was worried that's what i was going to get here. Never-mind, it sounds just great. I'm not saying it's loud enough to play concerts with (although the 2nd grade talent show is in 2 weeks) but it can certainly play way louder than my wife and I will let him. I think it sounds fantastic. For less than $100 delivered I couldn't be happier.
