5Blinded by the light....
By Rowe Rowe
I kept reading reviews of fog lights. Most complained that 55w was just not enough...Seriously? I installed these on my Ford F350 Truck and leave them OFF when driving day to day. These things are weapons! You can seriously blind other drivers with these bad boys. How about this: I can leave my headlights off and still drive with them. *easily*I am stunned how bright these are for the $$..Are there brighter? Oh you bet but for general fog driving and wilderness/backcountry travel, these things are excellent. I can see so much more with a pair of PIAA's complimenting my headlamps. When I go in to the forest, I can see WELL beyond regular headlamps. These dig deep in the dark to light your way. What an excellent product for the money. The main reason I chose them: The bulb can be replaced! LESS WASTE! yea!The wiring was simple. The directions were clear and the kit had everything I needed except the tools.PLEASE do what the instructions say and disconnect your battery. These things have quite a draw and if you wire them funny while the circuit is hot, you can really zorch your auto. It didn't happen to me but it's a logic thing. Don't be a cowboy..These are wider than 4" so if you are putting them on a truck, keep that in mind. They are wider than a typical oval fog lamp but I believe that contributes to their brightness.

5Super bright -- best on the market!
By John H. Meyer
Typical of Piaa -- world famous for quality -- super bright, must be linked electronically only to work with bright lights, all wiring needed, easy to install, make sure you understand this light model is available for either driving lights or fog lights -- look closely at the model number before you order. Remember too, for best distance of the bright light, mount these high -- horizontal with your bright lights or higher. Do not mount them directly on plastic bumpers -- they may begin to melt. Find mounting bolts already on your car -- lift your hood and design and fabricate a metal bracket. If you only have a small single bolt (such as a 10mm), add larger washers to add structural support. Mounting on plastic (with super strong "permanent" 3M foam tape) will not suffice. This light model is quite small and can be easily mounted anywhere, but DO NOT mount them directly under plastic (e.g., in your grill) because the units get very hot. Also, remember to them turn off and let them cool down before you enter a car/truck wash. The cool water is such an extreme difference in temperature, the glass lens may crack. Summary: Fantastic product -- expensive, yes, but you get what you pay for! JHM

3First impression review -- less focused beam pattern
By Armchair
Compared to: PIAA 1500XT ion crystal fog lights.Strengths: Decent light output with included H3 Xtreme White bulbs. Fits 1500XT brackets with a little work.Weaknesses: Less focused beam pattern than 1500XT units.Details: After my wife backed into my truck and destroyed my 1500XT's, I bought & installed the PIAA 2100-series fog lights, PIAA part no. 2190. Fairly easy install if you already have PIAA brackets in place. The 1500XT brackets will fit the 2100's with a little outward bending (the 2100 lamps are a bit wider in back). I'm not quite sure why PIAA just doesn't make standardized bracket widths -- you'd think this would reduce their production costs. Wiring harnesses are standardized, thank goodness, so no rewiring. Right away I could tell that the beam pattern is significantly less focused than the 1500XT -- there's more scatter upwards and downwards. I could actually see some of the beam pattern hitting the top of my garage door with the lights properly oriented and aimed. Beam pattern within the "bar" of focused light was also less consistent. I'll enter a followup review once I put the lights through some real-life testing. Don't know if the scatter issue will be significant. And I'll probably switch to some ion crystal bulbs eventually.11/13/2010 Update: After 2 months of use, I'll raise my initial review to 3 1/2 stars. My comment re: less focused beam pattern still holds -- when you're in a garage/tunnel, you can see light patterns on the ceiling. However, in real life outdoor applications you don't notice it. The fog lights nicely fill in the dead spot below your low beams and increase sideways coverage as well.

5After a lot of research, love it!
By B. Ullem
I looked at reviews on this site when I went to find a phone, and was disappointed to see that nearly every Panasonic phone I looked at had fewer than 3 stars (Panasonic is generally my favorite brand cordless). So I kept looking and found this package deal at Costco and on this site, and bought it to try, as well as a Vtech 5.8GHz set of 2 phones. On this note, I am a firm believer that--no matter the marketing hype from cordless manufacturers around new frequencies--that performance is about the same whether on 900MHz, 2.4GHz, 5.8GHz, or some combination of transmit/receive using a combination of those frequencies AS LONG AS you have a digital spread spectrum phone. The frequency hopping is so reliable that it doesn't matter if the frequencies are crowded or not, b/c the DSS is effective enough to get great range and no cross-talk, so I would not buy a phone based on the frequency on which it operates.

Anyway, I looked at all the feedback on this site and found it helpful, and felt compelled to take the time to give a little back now that I've evaluated this model. In short, the Vtech (don't know the model) and this were great, but the features were superior on this Uniden system. Both had great range to within 7 feet of each other when I walked away from my house to test range - overall I could get about 40-50 feet away from my house with both handsets. The speakerphone was marginally better on the Vtech than the Uniden, but I generally use the handset speakerphone when I'm on hold with an airline or something, and not to talk on, as anything less than full duplex (which neither of these support) is a pain, in my opinion.

I don't have 802.11 in my home yet, and am slightly concerned that this may interfere, but the reviews on this phone show this does not create a problem, and I have some friends with multiple brands of 2.4GHz cordless that they say don't interfere either. I suppose the chances of interference are slim, but exist though, with this phone, I'll assume it's not a problem.

So, I bought the Uniden for the features. I think this uniden comes closer to a cell phone experience than any cordless I've used in the past. It has a 800 or 850MAh NMH battery (not as good as Li-Ion, but much better than Ni-Cad) and, when I tested talk time, it held a call for 6+ hours before it died!! Very impressive. The base has a keypad and speakerphone, both handsets are small and have their own speakerphones, and adequate yellow/gold backlight. I liked that, like a cell phone, if the phone rings, and I don't want to answer it, I press the END button, and it mutes the ringer. I also like the Do Not Disturb feature on the base, which mutes all three ringers but lights up and caller ID displays in case I want to take a nap. This is really impressive: I took quite a bit of time to enter names and numbers in the phonebook using the triple-tap method on the keypad, and entered about 30 names/numbers, then I went into a "global settings" menu and wirelessly transferred all of these names/numbers and respective speed dial assignments to the other handset, to exactly match the first handset - that saved me hours, and assured both handsets are programmed identically. I;'ve never seen that feature on a cordless before. I also programmed my mobile and work numbers, and my wife's mobile in and assigned a particular ringer so we always know immediately if we need to pick up the phone for each other, then assigned a different ringer to all family members so we would immediately know by the ringer if family was calling, and all other calls get a third/different ringer. I spent about $70 on this 2-unit system plus the keypad/speakerphone base, and I'm very satisfied with the purchase.

5Affordable, Sleek, & Missing Nothing!
By J. L. Peters
I researched phones for months before coming across this one. You name it, this phone has it! From walkie-talkies to a transferable phonebook, I promise you won't be diasspointed. I found that the features are easy to use and the size similar to a cell phone instead of being big and clunky! My base unit is in our basement and extra handsets upstairs and the sounds is just crystal. Here are some features I love!

-Battery Low indicator ON SCREEN, no more guessing how much longer you have!

-Transferable Phonebook between handsets-Use as Walkie-Talkies away from home on a roadtrip or as Room Monitor for your kids while you're outside!-Paging device between phones. I love this because if my husband is downstairs and I am upstairs, he doesn't have to come get me and tell me I have a phone call. He just transfers it to the other handset and I pick up!-DO NOT DISTURB! This one is a beauty! Mutes ALL ringers for that peaceful dinner you always wanted.-Privacy Call- allows you to block other phones from hearing your converstaion (wish I had this at my parent's house when I was a teenager!)

Those are just a FEW!!! This phone is just awesome, I'd recommend it to anyone!

***The only suggestion I have is if you do get this, do not setup your area code on the handsets. By doing so, caller id comes up WITHOUT it and makes it a little more difficult to save the numbers to the phonebook.***

4Almost perfect, as these things go
By M. Blais
This is definitely my favorite cordless phone of about five that I have owned over the years. This surprised me, because I hated the 900MHz Uniden that I had a few years ago. But Uniden appears to have learned a lot.First, the things I like about this phone:+ The outgoing message and clock are preserved thorough a power outage! FINALLY - it's taken me ten years to find a phone where this worked right.+ The handsets are small and light enough to slip into my pants pocket, and (wonder of wonders) it's really difficult to accidentally hit a button while it's in there, because the buttons are relatvely tiny and almost flush with the phone surface. If you have big fingers this might not be a good thing, but it's great for me.+ Reasonably good range (at least 400 ft outside, unobstructed).+ Excellent NiMH battery capacity - I get a week of standby time, and Uniden claims 6 hours of talk time, which I have no reason to doubt.+ A speakerphone on each handset (as well as the base) - this is GREAT. Also a standard headset jack, another must-have feature for me. The handset's speakerphone is not particularly loud, but it's more than adequate for a normal work (desk) environment, it seems to work well, and I've had no complaints about it from callers on the other end.+ The phonebook and the caller ID list can be accessed while on a call. The call timer stays visible for 10 seconds after the call ends.+ Hold/transfer/page functions let you page or transfer a call to a specific handset. You assign a name to each handset, which makes this easy.+ The system handles multiple phones and handsets the way I want it to: by default, anyone picking up a connected extension phone or handset is automatically connected to the call, unless you have turned on "privacy mode".+ Each handset can screen incoming calls and access all answering machine functions, including memo. You can also record a call in progress, although the machine beeps intermittently when doing so, and the short recording capacity limits the usefulness of this feature.+ The "wealkie talkie" direct-link mode is a cool feature, although I haven't had any need to use it yet.+ A lighted "Do Not Disturb" button on the base turns off all ringers on all handsets, the answering machine speaker, etc. This is truly a Great feature - I only wish I could also activate/deactivate it from a handset. The handset display still lights up when there's an incoming call, also nice.+ I expect that the 2.4GHz frequency-hopping spread-spectrum communications would make it difficult for someone to eavesdrop on your conversations (just a guess).+ Perhaps my favorite feature of this unit is one that is difficult to describe: it generally just works the way I expect it to. Most consumer electronics products seem to get this wrong, where every feature is either awkward or annoying. On my previous phone, for example, the call timer would disappear the moment I hung up, and it was impossible for someone to pick up an extension and join the conversation. A lot of default behaviors on this phone can be changed through the menus, which is great if you're not afraid of menus (I'm not). Most of the operations (e.g. deleting all messages) are easy and intuitive, and usually just work the way you expect them to. This is astoundingly rare in the world of consumer electronics.Although there are a lot of buttons on the handset, I prefer this to putting everything in the menus, and I like the balance Uniden has struck in putting the most-used functions on buttons and the less-used ones in menus. There are of course some things about the phone that I think could use improvement:- Occasionally the signal gets flaky when I walk around the house while on a call, like being on a cell phone with poor reception. When this happens the person on the other end complains that my voice is dropping out.- Sound quality is good, but not excellent. I occasionally hear the annoying scratchy, tinny echo that another reviewer complained about, but only rarely, and it doesn't last long. If it was persistent, it certainly would be unacceptable.- I have Caller ID, but my telco doesn't offer "Caller ID with Name", so only the number comes through. I wish the phone would display the corresponding name from its phonebook for the incoming number, as my last cordless did. The phonebook's distinctive ring feature helps to identify an incoming call, but it would be a huge improvement to also display the name.- There is no "mute" button - Mute is accessed through the menus. However, since it's the first menu item it only takes two button presses to activate or deactivate it.- The answering machine's fixed sound quality and available time (12 minutes) are both mediocre, though adequate for me. 12 minutes is not going to be enough for some folks who like to leave their messages on the machine for days or weeks.- It takes an awful lot of buttons to enter a name in the phonebook (e.g., 8 button presses to get a lower-case 's').- The handsets are so small that they're difficult to clamp between yout ear and shoulder (just like a cell phone). I suppose that's the trade-off for having a phone small enough to slip easily into your pants pocket.- The Caller ID list does not store a '1' before the numbers; when you want to dial a number in the Caller ID list you have to first press a button to add the '1' prefix. There should be a menu option to make adding the prefix the default.Overall, I really like this phone, much better than any of my previous cordless phones, and I would certainly recommend it. I can't offer any information about possible interference from 2.4GHz wireless routers, since I don't have any other 2.4GHz devices in my house.

4An very good ski carrier for 2008 Subie STI OEM ski base
By Mungbean
My overall impression is that for the price, functionality and ease of installation the Thule 91725 is helluva bargain! I'll probably buy another Thule product because of this purchase.Description:Not to offend people or something by stating something that may be obvious to some, but the "Thule 91725 Flat Top" is simply the carrier portion; it doesn't include the carrier base, i.e. you should already have a carrier base installed or you'll have to get one.The carriers themselves work just like any other carrier with locks and large release buttons. These are wide carriers. So, if you're thinking of getting a couple sets for a mid-size or compact car, it's probably not going fit side by side (e.g. one that opens to the left side and one that opens toward the right side of your vehicle) unless your roof width is wide enough to accomidate or you have extra wide base. The rubber pieces in the carriers to hold your skis/boards in place are teardrop-shaped; the wider end holding the skis or boards in place. Each of the two ski racks comes with 2 clamps and each clamp is composed of two pieces: basically two wide/obtuse-angled "V"-shapes that when joined together with unique hex-screws on each tip, form a diamond shape. The special hex-screw driver is/should be provided with the package.Considerations:You'll probably want to account for the clearance between the roof and your ski carrier base's crossbars: assuming your bindings are already installed on your skis and/or board, if you use this carrier, and if your carrier base has only a 3" or less clearance between it and the roof of your vehicle and you place your bidings upside down then your bindings will probably hit the roof top (and probably not fit). In which case, you can always place the bindings up, ski/board base down toward the roof (with a set of skis laid side-by-side), but you won't be able to fit as many skis or snowboards.Pros:1. Fairly easy to install (took me about under 10 minutes including alignment): just 8 hex screws for 4 clamps (2 screws per clamp) to mess with.2. Fairly easy to operate with big white release buttons.3. "V" shapped clamps will fit just about any crossbar (e.g. eye-shaped, square and/or circular).4. Comes with locks to secure skis/snowboards onto carrier and hex screws that are unique so it's not very easy to disassemble the clamps without the unique hex screw driver that's provided.Cons:1. May not provide enough clearance for some factory-installed base "racks", especially those that are fairly flushed to the roof. Thus, you may not be able to fit as many skis or snowboards.2. Although the hex screws are unique (you will probably have a difficult time finding these at the local ACE Hardware or something), it is possible the hex screws can be loosened with the proper hex wrench or hex screw driver, i.e. the screws are exposed so even though you lock the carrier there's nothing covering the hex screws as an extra measure to mitigate tampering. Obviosly, if the Hex screws are removed from the carrier base, the entire carrier can be removed...along with your skis or board.3. I'm not sure, but the teardrop-shape rubber material to keep the skis/snowboard held together in the carrier does not appear to be the type that will last for years, not that it's a big deal, but that's my assessment on it's "durability" and ability to maintain elasticity. I'll find out in 10 years.'08-'10 Subaru Impreza's w/OEM or factory-installed ski/snowboard carrier base:I'm not sure how this will fit other vehicles, but I can certaily testify to how it fits on a Subie STi. I have a 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STi and this carrier's clamps fit perfectly onto the eliptical/"eye"-shaped OEM crossbars; I believe the ski base I have is the same OEM item for all '08-'10 Subaru Impreza models (including the WRX and the STi's). So, if you have an '08 or later model Impreza with the OEM ski base, the Thule 91725 is close to perfect. Again, not to offend people or anything, but just make sure the carriers are aligned properly; on the Impreza the passenger/rear portion of the roof is a little narrower than the driver/front portion of the roof. So, if you align it based on the roof line edges, then the carriers will be offset. And when you place the snowboards/skis they'll be skewed instead of parallel to the whole vehicle (if you're concerned about wind drag noise). '08-'10 Subaru Impreza ski and snowboard carrier base OEM part number is E361SFG300 and is a lot cheaper when you order it through an Subaru OEM distributor than from a dealership. The Impreza's OEM carrier crossbars had enough clearance so I can place a set of skis together (base-to-base) and snowboard upside-down or two snowbaords together (base-to-base) without any part of the bindings (with the exception of the dangling ankle riser on the snowboard) touching the roof top.

3Works well, with limitations
By JB
Installed this on a Jeep Grand Cherokee factory rack. Not enough clearance between the roof and ski bindings - had to take apart skis and lay them flat. Therefore could barely fit 2 skis + 1 snowboard. Look for a height adjustable or bigger rack such as the Yakima Fat Cat if you're carrying more than 3 pair of skis.

4Really did the job for us
By Calvin Perilloux
I bought this with some skepticism, having read other reviews that gave it low marks, and also having bought Thule products in the past and cursed them as I tried assembling and installing them, what with missing pieces and the like.Happily, this box is fine. It does seem flimsy when you're assembling it, and it even seems that way when it's open on top of the car. It seems to be engineered to be as light as possible, which it is, and that can be unnerving until you get it fastened down and locked closed.Assembly: It's awkward. It took two of us, me and my 2 year old! Seriously. It's a bit hairy for one person to get it right, since you have to match the hinges with the sides of the "clam shell", and their fit doesn't seem quite right until you tighten them up well. Still, it went OK, about 20 minutes for me to do, far better than a Thule roof racks I installed some years back, where I was dealing with bent and missing parts. If you do this alone, you need to brace it well at an angle as you hook the top and bottom together. Much easier with two people.Installation: Dead easy on the factory roof rack. (We have a Pontiac Aztek.) THERE IS NO NEED TO BUY ADDITIONAL BRACKETS, though when viewing ads for this, you might think so at first glance. The package includes 4 U-brackets which attach to your roof racks and are held inside by hand-swivel bolts (whatever they're called). One thing I added while doing the installation was to put duct tape over the inside holes for the U-brackets. There are several holes in each sequence, and you only use two out of 4 or 5; the others are exposed. Covering with tape might help keep spray out.Performance: Pretty good! We drove 2300 miles with this unit, of which about 300 were in driving rain. During the worst rain, we did have dampness and some droplets of water at the bottom front inside, but the gear was sitting up on ridges and was fine - bag in front was damp but not wet. If you have cloth bags that press to the very bottom, I'd put them in plastic if you'll be hitting heavy rain (and ours was VERY heavy, and at 70 mph driving speed). We noticed an increase in wind noise at high speeds, and in our rough tests, it knocked about 2 mpg off our gas mileage at 75 mph, but on a 50 mph stretch of several hundred miles we couldn't tell a difference.Removal takes literally five minutes. You undo (by hand) four pairs of swivel bolts, and lift it right off the roof. Reinstallation is about the same.Overall, we're extremely happy with it and very glad we bought it.

5Perfect Size for a Subaru Outback
By lb311
Yes, this box is not as thick and heavy as the larger pro-line boxes....and that's precisely why I like it! It provides about 50% more storage space for my Outback wagon and looks nicely proportioned to the car (not like those bigger monster-sized boxes would look on top of a small wagon). While some folks have said it took 2 people to assemble, I was able to do it myself just fine. It's also lightweight enough to put on and take off of the car by myself as well (I'm a middle-aged female). Once you start loading it up, it doesn't wobble around anymore and provides a good secure, dry enclosure. I was able to haul a tent, chairs, sleeping bags and other camping gear in it with no problems.Well worth the money. Very nice product!

4Overall good value
By J. Jackson
This item was fairly easy to assemble. Would be easier with 2 people but I put it together in less than 30 minutes. It was easy to mount onto the roof rack as well. Bought this for a long car trip but wanted to take a trial run with it of about 500 miles round trip. On the trip we ran into some rain and a couple of quick downpours. The carrier held up well. I had a couple of drops of water on the inside and that was my fault. It was obvious that it was from the unused holes in the bottom for attaching it to the roof rack and I forgot to use the covers for those holes. Overall it help up great and expect it will do well for our trip to Florida

5Great string But Keep In Mind a Few Things
By Mark Showalter
First, I use this as my mains in a Hybrid stringing with either technifibre 18ga or natural gut 17ga. I use this string to firm up the string bed because otherwise the tension drop off will limit the string job to 3 or 4 weeks. Second, this stuff strings VERY tight, so you need to drop a few pounds otherwise you end up with a board. I've strung a few rackets with just this string in an oversize Head frame & the stiffer stringing tames the large head without killing the playing characteristics of the frame. Third, in a Hybrid stringing the Luxilon has to be dropped a few pounds to balance the result. I string the mains at 54 & the crosses at 57 & although it starts out a bit stiff, after several weeks the racket plays well until a string breaks, which is usually the mains. It's expensive stuff but so far worth it.

3Great but not the best.
By A. Ashrafi
This reel is great for tennis players that break the cords often because it's very hard. However, you will compromise on the feeling of the spin...

5Gamma Infinity 18G Reel
By Alan Franson
Nice durable string for mains. Thinner guage makes for more spin. Soft feel good for your joints. I use this with synthetic gut crosses, and am happy with the results! Good price also!
