wonderful plates for all winter long

these plates feel good in the hand, have nice deep edges/rims to keep food from easily sliding out - a plus for living room eating.i will use them all winter long and then in the spring switch to the Botanical collection.i don't think of these as just being for Christmas! :~)Cheers and enjoy!

The breakfast cups and saucers are larger than the average tea-cup roughly twice the capacity which is perfect for a start of the day "cuppa" and much nicer than using mugs. A very good addition for anyone with other Portmeirion dishes.

Shrunk in the Mail

Portmeirion Botanic Garden Tea Cup and Saucer, Set of 6They are considerably smaller than the set i purchased in England ... i think maybe 6 ozs rather than 12 ozs. And obviously the saucers are smaller too.I kept the product but was greatly disappointed. The cup size should be printed, and in fact they cost more than the larger ones. The price was high in general, as i found them cheaper in a store near home.Internet shopping learning curve for me indeed.

a new introduction, but the old was better

Portmeirion introduces and discontinues items within a line, and has done so since they introduced Botanic Garden in 1972. Even the plates, which only have six flowers at any given time have had numerous flowers offered over the years. They have downsized the tureen. Fortunately, many discontinued items can still be found if one searches hard enough.This is a new "traditional" style tea cup in a 7oz. they are trying to come up with something more delicate than the traditional heavy stoneware. It replaces the previous 7oz romantic-traditional shape and the original drum shape tea cups. (the original tea pot was drum shape too.) They have discontinued the coffee cup that was 9oz; "Breakfast cup", 12oz (same saucer size as the gravy boat); and Latte cup, 20oz. (my daughter likes it for cereal/soup.)I'm giving this a three only because I'm not sure if I'm going to keep them or send them back and search for the older romantic shaped, heavier stoneware (and more expensive) tea cups.

Nice present for your friends

I bought two of these from Amazon and give them to my close friends as presents.These cups are not huge and a bit pricey. But I was looking for a bit special present, it was the one. Cups are cute and precious. It may be a good idea to look at them at your local store before to make a decision.

These are the MOST perfect mugs for tea or coffee.

I love being able to warm my tea up and still be able to handle the mug. I also like to warm my cream in the cup before pouring in coffee-warms the cream but you can still handle the mug. And I received all six individual absolutely beautiful mugs!

Wonderful!

I ordered these for my mother and they came in perfect condition. An earlier review scared me off a little originally, as they said the bowls showed up broken. I had no such problem, and the bowls themselves are beautiful and very useful - I use them for salads as well as pasta.

Excellent bowls.

I am very pleased with these bowls. They are perfect for all sorts of things that the teeny, weeny bowls that come with a service of this china are too small to accomplish (must be a European thing.) The bowls are a nice size for tossed salad, soup, stew or pasta (of course.) They are very pretty and arrived extremely well packed with not a scratch on them.

With Portmeirion currently manufacturing in both England and China, I was concerned about the origin of these bowls.. I am happy to inform all that these bowls are made in England--so you can buy with confidence. If you are in need of this size bowl, I would highly recommend them.

Beautiful but beware of the size

Excellent quality plates and excellent delivery through Amazon. However, be advised that these are called 6" Plates (BG05092) by Portmeirion, not "Bread and Butter" Plates (Portmeirion info on their B&B plates = 5"d; BG03704). As specified by Amazon, the full diameter on these BG05092 plates is 7.25" (I have no idea why Portmeirion calls them 6" - I put a ruler up to them, and precisely 6 inches of diameter doesn't fall anywhere obvious), and they are definitely larger than the typically-sized B&B plates. I like the larger size, as they can also be used for small salads or averaged-portioned desserts. If you're looking for the daintily-sized B&B plates, though, don't let the name of these fool you. They aren't Botanic Garden's formal B&Bs.
