5The Polk tradition of unbeatable value reigns on...
By James Marcano
Go ahead, find a center channel for the same price that even comes close to the sound of the CSi3. I dare you. When paired with a good mid-line or better receiver (my own is paired with a Yamaha RX-V557), this speaker will not let you down. During movies and video games, voices are incredibly natural. Between the silk-dome tweeter and the two drivers, this speaker can hit every frequency that human vocal chords are capable of producing; that's important for a center-channel.Although I generally stick to stereo for most music, unless it's encoded properly for surround, this speaker will also impress during your favourite tunes. Don't expect much in the lower frequencies, but mid and highs-will be as accurate as you can imagine. Finally, though to me, this is one of those superficial qualities, the case design allows the user to place the center below his or her television, pointed up at the user. This adds another measure of flexibility, although the fact that polk doesn't use this design in their top-line LSiC might point toward how the company really feels about such a speaker arrangement.All-in-all, you can't go wrong with the CSi3. The average listener will be blown away, and audiophiles will be impressed with such performance at this price point. I know that I certainly am.

4Great Center Speaker!
By A. Ingoglia
This center speaker for the price is fantastic. The voices are very crisp and it sounds great with a dts/dolby digital receiver. I love this center speaker makes my surround sound system intense! POLK AUDIO did a great job. I even got the cheap r30 front speakers and it eally added what I was looking for. My neighbors hate them but it is worth it! Ha!

5Brilliant Sound
By Anthony Lawson
PROs: Brilliant sound. Fills out the front sound stage exceptionally well. Vocal clarity is top notch. I have found in my ownership of this speaker (since 2008!) that it is very versatile and pairs with most mid to high end speakers surprisingly well. Construction feels solid and the speaker has a good heft to it without being overly heavy. In addition, the speaker is built with a slope on one side that allows the speaker to be placed below eye level and 'aimed' upwards to compensate. Screw type binding posts give the option to terminate your speaker wiring any way you please, be it with a banana plug, pin, or just bare wire.CONs: Cat fur sticks to the grill. To be fair, there's no accounting for cats.

5Compared with Klipsch/Polk in store, liked these best
By linlu
At our local BB store, we could compare the JBL speakers hooked up to the identical receiver model (older yamaha) and the same content source. These sounded better. The sound was richer, had better separation in the high end, and just wasn't muddied/or off color in the low end.For listening to music, floor standing speakers are the way to go, much better than any of those wall mountable little speakers prevalent on home theater systems. We watch quite a few music DVDs (concerts, videos) and the sound these speakers produce is almost like being there, and sometimes better than being there live. Now compared to Klipsch, the Klipsch sounded muddy and could not provide as much separation on high sounds. The JBLs sounded more 3-d than Klipsch - same receiver models & sound source.Compared to Polk, the JBLs just seemed to sound more energetic, again same receiver models & sound source. It might be that the JBLs were pushing more on the high end than the Polks did. At least that was my subjective impression. We've had these now for a few months, and are so happy we got them (part of my bday present, see review for Yamaha 5760). We had an old partially functioning 10-year old Panasonic receiver with 4-ohm Advent speakers. I loved those Advents but they can't match the sound from these speakers. One caution:These speakers are heavy, so you want to watch out if you have little toddlers, I would recommend using a furniture tie kit to tie them to a wall. Otherwise a toddler or pulling up baby could tip them over onto themselves and end up very hurt.

5Great floorstanding speakers
By Rodolphe Boulanger
These speakers are fantastic. I spent a lot of time sampling all of the speaker setups at the national electronics stores, and these sound far better than anything else in the price range with great high and low frequency response and sound definition. They are good for anyone looking to buy a pair of stereo speakers or as the centerpieces (front right and left channels) of a great home theatre setup for under $1000 (JBL has an array of matching center and surround speakers). They also look good with the covers off. Unfortunately they take up a lot of space in a small apartment.

5One word: WOW.
By C. K. Smith
These speakers will literally change the way you hear your music or movie collection. They beautifully separate the a capella voices of (for example) Ladysmith Black Mambazo and make it sound as though they are performing in your living room. They provide crystal clear audio upgrades to any of the Dolby or other options on a relatively sophisticated home theatre system, even one with previously great L-R speakers (infinity), and they fill even a large room with amazing sound. These speakers are so excellent that I'd give them 6 stars if that were possible. Bonus: they are on sale now at a deep discount. Definitely the best investment I've made in audio equipment in years.

4JBL E50 Shoot Out
By Hammerhead
I have been a JBL fan for years. I am a professional Audio Engineer, and I am familliar with the tonality and durability of JBL products.I purchased a pair of JBL Northridge E50 bookshelf speakers to do a shootout with a pair of Polk Monitor 40 speakers for a client I am desigining a home stereo install for. The client paid approximately $250 delivered for each pair of speakers. After several days of testing within tolerances, I could still differentiate between the two, but it became nearly impossible for the client to tell which speaker was which in a blindfold test. Both television and CDs were tested through the speakers, and the music ranged from Josh Grobin to Stevie Ray Vaughn. It should be noted that the Polk Monitor 40s and the JBL E50s both required the use of a subwoofer in order to sound complete. By sheer weight, the JBL wins hands-down. At 25-lbs. each, it is a much heavier box than the 17-lb. Polk.Through much of our testing, the 3-way JBL seemed more transparent in it's tonality, but when switched back and forth between the 2-way Polk within the same piece of music, it sometimes sounded a bit mid-rangey through the 800-1600 Hz range. I'm not sure whether the Polk was missing through that range, or whether the JBL was adding, but the Polks sounded more like what I was hearing in the AKG headphones. Also, the JBLs seemed to be lacking a bit in the lower range, through the 60-160 Hz range. This was the most surprising result, because the 8" woofer in the JBL looks as though it should be kicking the tail of the Polk 6" dual woofers, but the Polks had a deeper, richer bottom end.The JBL E50s are rated for greater power than the Polk Monitor 40s, so if you plan to rock the house, the JBLs are probably a better choice. When pressed to their Continuous Power Handling rating, the Polks began to sound as though they were suffering from distress. They didn't distort, but they were obviously uncomfortable, while the JBLs never winced. However, for the purpose of this comparison, my client stated that the listening area (15 ft. X 20 ft.) would never tolerate that much volume, and confessed he would never be listening to the JBLs as loud as they were tested, so keep in mind the space where you will be using them.In the end, it was decided that the Polk Monitor 40s were smoother and did not inject their own tonality onto the music. The JBL E50s would have required a physical change to the shelf on which they were to reside, so the client made the choice for the Polk Monitor 40s, but if you have a good sturdy shelf with room for the E50, and a listening space large enough to turn them up, you may make a different choice.

4Good performance, excellent value
By Alvin Lau
The build quality is excellent and the E50s image well. The sound is warm and smooth, very easy to listen to. Bass response is adequate but not strong. The treble could use a bit more air as well.Since the E50s are bookshelf speakers, they seem best suited for a small to medium sized room or for use as surround speakers. If used as main speakers for a large room, I suggest adding a separate subwoofer. Overall, an excellent speaker at this price point.

5Good choice
By Traveler
I was replacing floor speakers and wanted a pair of speakers which had a smaller footprint (my wife didn't want a room filled and dominated with speakers)...yet still provided performance. I got what I wanted by purchasing the JBL E50.I am using the speakers primarily as the front main channels (5.1 configuration) in a room that is 15'x15' with a 10'ceiling plate. The room is filled well with sound. The audio is clean and provides good spatial depth to the movie sound tracks. This in tandem with the other (center, subwoofer) JBL Northridge speakers.Playing music from my CD player....sounds good and inviting. Good definition. Good reproduction.I believe I made the right choice and very pleased with my purchase. I would recommend JBLs.

5Outstanding value
By Gregory E. Smith
Guests who hear the music playing in my living room, immediately start looking for the big floor speakers. I love pointing to these little speakers and telling them "These are what you are listening to!"These speakers have bright highs and a solid bass with real punch! They produce a sound much like large floor speakers without the footprint. I great buy! I highly recommend them.

5Blockbuster Bookshelf Speakers!
By Jeffrey W. Nicholas
I took a chance on these JBL E30s based in part on the reviews, then the price, and it paid off!!! As a past "audiophile high end snob" but now retired and on a VERY limited budget--for the money--the JBL E30s really respond to my HK AVR20 II's high-current output with clean definition, fast attack, and a surprisingly deep bass response even without the subwoofer turned on.I thrive on acoustic instrument sound such as the Concert Grand piano solos (via Pro Piano CDs) or with orchestra, guitar solos/duos etc., The Moody Blues LPs, Tomita's electronic transcriptions of the classics, THE MIGHTY WURLITZER theatre organ (George Wright LIVES!), Big Band recordings and the like and want it accurately reproduced when I listen--either SERIOUSLY (in that seated "sweet spot") or as background sound when I'm moving about my digs catching up on my household chores. These speakers do it ALL. They handle the subtle nuances of Debussy or thunderous whomps from The King Of Instruments and sonically dynamic works like Rite Of Spring easily letting me bring out my old LPs--hearing them all over again as "new" adventures on my vintage turntable while I anticipate the arrival of my new Audio-Technica AT-PL120 Professional Direct-Drive Turntable (professional grade AR cartridge included!) and all from A'.com at remarkably reasonable prices. This site's a great place to find what you want without going bankrupt. If you're looking for a highly capable and responsive pair of bookshelf speakers, I feel you can't go wrong the the JBL E30s. For the money, they're AWESOME.

5Great speaker value --lower cost, higher performance
By King Lemuel
I recently began upgrading my home audio by buying at Ebay 2 pairs of JBL E20s and 1 Pair E30s, an E25 center speaker and a Harmon Kardon AVR. I got the first pair of e20s a week ago and the 2nd pair of E20s and the E30 yesterday and the remaining stuff should be delivered by the weekend. The E20s and E30s are listed as "Bookshelf Speakers." The E20s ARE bookshelf speakers. As I wrote in my review of the E20s, the E30s can only be thought of as bookshelf speakers if you last name is Kong and your first name is King! The E20s are heavy at 7lbs each, not flimsy little boxes as some cheapo bookshelves are. The E30s are HEAVY. HEAVY! 16 lbs each. (That is what my 7 qt lodge cast iron dutch oven weighs!) They are 15 inches high and 12 inches deep. They need to be placed on small end tables or speaker stands 18 to 24 inches off the floor.I am very pleased with both the E20s and E30s. For small speakers, the E20s have some oomph and can be cranked up. The E30s have OOOMMPHHHH. They WANT to be cranked up. Yesterday I tried them out by listening to my mp3 files of the Animals Singles and Paul Revere and the Raiders Kicks. When cranked up, the E30s sound at least 1000% better than the the E20s. I hooked them up to my vintage JVC AV receiver circa 1989 that has 80 watts front and 20 watts rear power. At a little over half volume my ears began to hurt. You can really feel the bass and the drums kick.I also listened to about 2 hours of The Doors via Rhapsody with the audio out from my computer to the audio in on my receiver. I have been listening to this music since it was first played on the airwaves back in the 60s. The E30s are simply incredible! They brought some very familiar tunes to life and made them new and fresh. My biggest surprise with the E30s is that they sound very good at lower volumes, not as good as the E20s, but still very good. As I write, I am watching/listening to a DVD of Vivaldi's 4 Seasons concertos performed by Herbert Von Karajan, the BPO and Anne-Sophie Mutter on fiddle and am running the E30s and E20s at about 15% volume--pretty low since the 4 speakers are sharing the front 80 watts of my receiver. Yet I can still HEAR everything at low volumes including the resonating violins and the harpsacord. Since we normally do not rock the house down all the time and we do often listen at lower levels, I am very pleased at how good they sound without having to blow out my eardrums.I bought the E30s for under $90 including s/h. Back in the early 80s or late 70s I spent more than four times this amount (adjusted for inflation) for 2 large, heavy Advent Loudspeakers with 8" woofers. The E30s clearly sound better than I ever remember the Advents sounding including better bass response, and I liked the Advents! Over time, our audio choices have gotten better and cheaper. You still can spend mega bucks and buy a $10,000 McIntosh system (or even drop that much on a turntable magnetic cartridge as I saw at one website!) It all depends on what your budget is. The JBLs are a great value offering tremendous perfomance for those who are budget minded.

5RBC24 from American Battery Co.
By rpm
Great Price/ Exact Fit !We purchased this unit for our SU1400RM UPS The APC price was $131 more plus shipping so we figured we would give ABC a try. The battery arrived in 2 days free shipping (for Amazon prime members) and aside from the ABC label it was an exact match to the unit we replaced. The ABC unit slid right in, connected properly and so far it has preformed just as the original did. Time will tell (it's been in the unit for a month) but with the 2 year warranty I'm not worried. I recommend it highly.

1Poor fit, bad connection

We were hoping to save a few hundred dollars by buying this instead of an APC battery but it did not fit correctly, the adapter kept detaching, and the battery meter kept rising and falling. Had to return it.

4Great price. Awkward return/disposal.
By A. Leghart
Great discount from buying APC-branded replacement battery. Comes packaged well, no damage. Clear installation instructions. NO RETURNS.That's part of the price difference. APC lets you return your old batteries for recovery/recycling. This manufacturer will not. I did manage to contact the local warehousing facility (only 20-30 minute drive from my office). But, they kept handing off the phone call. One guy wanted me to prepare a shipping manifest with materials, weights, etc., then told me I couldn't drive my little Honda up to their warehouse...he thought I had a delivery truck. The fifth guy said it would be no problem. Leave it in the original packaging, tape up the terminals, and take it to another warehouse at a different location. He said it "should be fine" for me to drop off...but wasn't sure who or where or if they would actually take it from me.I ended up finding a local computer recycling company who took them with no problems.Don't buy these unless you have a recycler already lined up. The typical places like AutoZone, Sears, etc. won't take these batteries. If you're in SoCal, see AES Electronics Recyling in Fullerton. Free pickups if you have a lot of stuff.UPDATE (11/2011) - My local AutoZone will take these batteries if I remove them from the metal tray. Not a big deal. I even went in once with the entire tray and the store manager took it. I guess it depends on who you get at the counter.
