Polk Audio CSi3 the perfect complement to RTi4

After purchasing four Polk Audio RTi4s for my front and surround speakers, I replaced my Polk Audio CS245 center with the CSi3. The CS245 was a great speaker that was a good match to my old pair of AR15s. However, it didn't provide a perfect match to the RTi4s. The RTi4s and CSi3 now provide a seamless soundstage with clear highs for dialog as well as natural mids and good bass. Two friends have surround systems from Energy, which provide excellent sound quality for movies. However, I prefer my setup for music and am entirely satisfied with my Polks for movies.

Dialogue that is clear and crisp

One month ago I bought the Polk Rti4's from Onecall. To be blunt, I was more than impressed not only on the clarity, look, and reproduction of sound, but also with the price. After working some overtime I was able to buy this great center channel. This is what I liked:- Greater clarity of dialogue when watching movies- Beautiful cherry exterior that is real wood - fits right in with my Rti's- Very mobile since you are able to put it on top of your TV or below the TV- Delivered three days flat if bought through Amazon via Onecall - no extra charge- Very well priced in comparison to other center channels out thereCons:- Even though it's a great looking center channel, it's rather wide sitting at 20" , and rather tall standing at 7.5".Polk offers the CS1 and CS2. I looked at both products and couldn't understand why you would settle with either of them when the CSi3 was made from real wood, along with a front port. Perhaps I could understand if one is looking for bigger woofers - like that of the CS2. Yet, the price difference between the CS2 and i3 is only $20.00.If you do end up buying this, or any other center, I recommend that you at least buy some quality speaker wires (14 gauge maybe). Countless friends of mine have been buying great components and speakers, yet they settle with slim 18 gauge wire from Radio Shack. Then again it could just be my friends.

Awesome center...

I had purchased a couple of Polk Audio R50 floor speakers from a major retailer...the speakers were fairly nice, but I wanted to boost the sound a little (especially for theatre options), so I added this center. I know it is not specifically matched to the R50's, but it sounds very good with them and actually makes them sound better....crisp highs, but still sounds rich. I also use a subwoofer with the system which makes a huge difference. I will say this is not a main application...I use this system in my master bedroom which is about 15 x 20 and it gives me all the sound I would want out of a secondary setup. I have it coupled with a 50" Vizio Plasma and the speakers are driven by an Onkyo 605...and the sound is really amazing for the money I have in the system. I have owned several Polk speakers over the years and I feel they offer one of the best values on the market in the speaker arena.

Best roaster pan ever!

I think it's hard to say just how much I love this pan. Roasters are usually such a chore to clean. Too big to easily soak in the sink and always so much crusty stuff burnt on the bottom to try and get off. If you've ever owned a stainless steel roaster, you will know what I mean. This is absolutely the best roaster I can imagine. Not only can you still use it on the stove to make gravy (with metal utensils no less!) it comes clean with virtually no effort at all. And looks absolutely like new afterwards. I've used it even when a smaller pan would probably do fine, because it is so easy to clean and browns everything so well. Highly recommended!

Worthy of owning

This product is worth owning...it can cook with flavor and perfection and easy cleanup. Needs little or no oil, but I like to add butter, etc. for flavor. I now have a collection of these pots and pans and doing away with other aluminum pots that do not last nor are they easy to live with as the scanpan. I have gratitude for healthy pots and pans I can trust with my cooking of food.

Pan looks great, box crushed, no warr (UPDATED)

I will reiterate what another reviewer said. The pan looks wonderful but the box it came in was damaged. The little booklet it came with (a multi-language, one-page user's guide) looks a bit worn as well. Be aware that, although the cover states "Guaranteed not to warp" and the insert states "Base is guaranteed to remain level", no printed warranty or guarantee came with the pan. I will be contacting the online customer service about the warranty but I don't know if I'll hear back from them since I bought the pan through Amazon and not directly from them or one of their retail stores.As stated before, nowhere on the box or insert does it say that this is a lasagna pan.UPDATE: Despite my mediocre rating when I first got the pan, I must say that I wish I could change my review to four or five stars to reflect my satisfaction with this product. It is now one of my favorite cookware items in my kitchen. I have used it for so many things (from lasagna to roasts to brownies) and everything has turned out exceptionally well. I love it! I also have never had a problem cleaning it - just a few swipes in hot, sudsy water. Even with the warrantee concerns stated earlier, I am still glad I purchased this pan. In fact, I'm considering buying one for my mom and sister.UPDATE #2: I have changed my review to five stars since I continue to be very happy with this pan. I love it so much that a bought a second, smaller one. Just remember never, never use sharp utensils on it. It will scratch.

Very useful on the road

I bought this portable player, although I knew of what is in my opinion its major deficiency: NO DC POWER INPUT. This is a problem when you want to use the player at home (or other "fixed" location), possibly as an auxiliary input to an amplifier or to external speakers. The lack of DC input is however partly compensated because the (battery operated) player seems to be quite energy-efficient. Also because of this, I expect the gadget to be used more as a radio than as a cassette player over its lifetime.The overall quality of the gadget is excellent and it includes useful features, most of them adjustable through the digital user menu.The digital radio controls are superior to those of most other portable players. As a result the user enjoys presise tuning of stations in either automatic or manual seek mode with ample memory locations.After several months of use, I have no complaints related to reliability. The carrying case that comes with the gadget provides additional protection against scratches etc. and can be kept on the player at all times without hindering its ease of handling.Although there are more inexpensive alternatives, I would consider the product as an excellent buy if it is meant for use on the road, outdoors or by frequent travellers.

Cassette is not ergonomic but good for price.

I haven't owned a Walkman since around 1985 so it was fun to see how far cassette technology has advanced since then. Not much I see. This Walkman only requires a single AA battery -- much lighter than the one that needed four AA cells back in the day! The tape speed is incredibly stable. You can shake and spin this thing in every direction and not hear any difference in the playback. It sounds good considering that I'm listening to cassettes I recorded thirty years ago so maybe it sounds even better with recently recorded media.What's most disappointing is how it completely hides the cassette once it's inserted. All of the old Walkmans had a small window so you could see the cassette label and how much tape is on the reels. Not only is there no window, if you open the lid, you see the opposite side of the cassette. You have to pull it out to see the label on the side that you're playing.There is no automatic stop when rewinding or fast-forwarding. Once it hits the end of the tape, it will keep pulling on the tape until you stop it, the battery dies, or the tape breaks. It does stop in play mode fortunately.Of course it has no Dolby noise reduction so my Dolby-C encoded tapes sound a little funny.For a mere thirty bucks, this is good deal if you just want to listen to your old cassettes.

Scanpan Stickage

I love my Scanpan for just about everything. 99% of my items do not stick. The only items that I have found that stick are fried potatos, eggs, and thick bacon. I talked to Scanpan and they couldn't answer my question of why these 3 items stick in the pan. I cook on medium heat and spray with Pam, but the darn things still stick. But I still love them.

A basic for everyday use

I LOVE this pot! It's just the right size for so many tasks, and with 2 stay-cool handles it's easy on the wrists, secure to move to sink or elsewhere, and takes less room on the stove than a typical large saucepan with a long handle.

For boiling smaller quantities of pasta, I find this pot ideal: it pours easily and comfortably into a colander, and the nonstick surface cleans up without a hitch (i.e., no left-behind sticky gluten that's hard to get off).

A BIG added bonus: as well as fitting the Scanpan 8" frypan, the lid also fits perfectly on the 8" omelet pan that tops the LeCreuset 2-qt multifunction pan.

In addition to this pot, other Scanpan pieces are "naturals" because of their ability to tolerate high heat and metal utensils: the wok, the grill pan, and the rectangular roaster.

Breathtaking price - and performance

It was almost 40 years ago in Germany when I bought this tripod head, or the model that preceded it. I needed a small tabletop tripod and head. I needed them to be sturdy and reliable. Several people told me that there was only one mini-tripod and head worth taking home, that the others were just toys. If I needed a mini-tripod and head, I needed to get the Leica table-top tripod and head - THIS was the pair to get.I thought about it for some time. And then spent most of a my month's pay as an Army enlisted man and bought them.I've used them regularly and extensively for almost 40 years. And they still look good and work very well.It is easy to adjust your camera to any angle. Loosen the set screw and turn the camera where you want it. Tighten the set screw. It'll stay put. I've had friends use view cameras on this head! I fell into the Rhine river in the winter carrying this tripod head. It froze. The camera I was carrying didn't survive. The head did.Is it expensive? Yes. However, if you look at the cost per year, it's really cheap. In 40 years, if people are still using cameras with tripod sockets, you'll still be able to use this head. I can't think of ANY other photographic purchase I've used for so many years, and which is still so useful!

Expensive but excellent

This is one great pan! It is non-stick but uses a Titanium ceramic finish instead of Teflon which makes it far more durable. I got this pan because of health concerns with Teflon pans but this pan is so good that it is worth it even if you aren't worried about Teflon. Over time I plan on replacing all my Teflon non-stick pans with Scanpans. Because of its weight this pan takes longer to warm up up than my other pans; this is a little frustrating when I just want to quickly fry an egg for my daughter. Another thing is even though the literature says the pan is dishwasher safe I noticed that every time I wash it in the dishwasher I have problems with food sticking so now I always wash it by hand.

The flexibility this cable gives you is well worth the money. Especially when shooting in the dark. The off-flash AF-Illuminator lets you point the flash anywhere while still being able to paint your subject for autofocus.The build-quality is outstanding - the cable is heavy and doesn't get "over-stretched" easily.

Needed off camera flash cord

The Nikon SC-29 flash cord,although pricey, is a necessary addition to off camera flash attachments. Having looked at other cheaply made cords, with their flimsy attachments, I was convinced that the extra money would be better spent on the stronger construction of the SC-29. In addition, since I am using a non Nikon speedlight, I wanted a cord which would allow usage of my Sigma flash in both ttl and non ttl applications. The SC-29 has a nifty little switch which allows this to happen.On my Nikon D80 it has performed outstandingly with my non dedicated flash.

Oh my, what fun

I dont use this product in it's intended use in the studio. I wanted this cord to take out to the streets to get some weird flash angles similar to those of Bruce Gilden and my own original ideas concerning a whole matter of subjects. This works flawlessly with my SB-800 and D200. Giving a wide range of flexibility.No matter what use you find for it, it'll work just fine.

Wow! A nonstick pan that is truely nonstick!

I was initially very skeptical about spending so much money on a pan, but I had read good reviews about Scanpan products, so I thought I'd give it a try. Now that I have this saute pan, I cannot do without it!

I have abused this pan most horrendously, and it still remains perfectly nonstick. Cleanup is always a cinch. And it is big and versatile enough to take care of all cooking needs. I even use it for a casserole dish.

Granted, this pan is a lot heavier than what I'm normally used to, so it's impossible for me to carry it with just one hand. But it's pros far outweigh its only con.

Good cooking!

I just used my new Scanpan 12" saute pan for the first time. I love it! Very even heating, perfectly non-stick surface, works beautifully at high temperatures. I've been disappointed in Calphalon's non-stick surface, which doesn't hold up well at all. I have a small Scanpan griddle and it has done well for a year now, so I'm hoping this saute pan holds up, too. The pan is quite heavy, especially when filled with whatever you're cooking, so I recommend getting one with the helper handle.

The Best Non-stick Saute Pan

Simply outstanding; the best. I have been using top-end coated non-stick cast cookware since 1993, but could not afford Scanpan. I found a sale on Amazon; I can cook anything in the saute pan, using olive oil or butter for flavor as needed with heat distribution uniform at any temperature. I have recently started baking gingerbread and such in the Saute pan, with extraordinary results (I presume because of the heat distribution), and no problem with the "plastic" handle even at high heat. I am still reluctant to use a knife directly on the pan, the problem is that the pan is fine but the knife gets dull. Clean-up is so easy that it takes me longer to wash the remains of scrambled eggs from a plate than the pan.

FRIENDS DON'T LET FRIENDS BUY SCANPAN

One of these 5-star reviews could easily have been mine about five years ago. I was over the top about them at first, but am feeling a bit different about SCANPAN these days, and I'm also in the process of replacing my entire collection for which I paid more than I care to admit.Reading through the Amazon reviews (back then in March 2004) and reviews elsewhere, I was convinced I would be investing in the best cookware on the planet, and it would serve me the rest of my days with its lifetime warranty. At first it performed well, despite the limited size assortment of sauce pans in the titanium Classic line ... the largest being the 3-quart size, which is barely big enough to boil enough spuds for two servings of mashed potatoes. But the pans distributed the heat very well, and food didn't stick to the nonstick surface.Though I knew I could, I never put them in the dishwasher and, as is my style, I took very good care of the cookware. Living alone, I would describe my use of the cookware as "light" ... I was the only one who ever cooked on them. Even with the surface rated tough enough for metal utensils, I never used anything but nylon or wooden spatulas, spoons, etc. I also never used PAM on the surface. I pampered this cookware.The covered sauté pan that I used most often was the first to show signs of discoloration on the cooking surface, along with a mass of little bubbles. Some of the bubbles lost their tops, others didn't. This started within 12-15 months of being new. Slowly this worsened and the cooking surface took on an unsightly dull gold/orange hue. Though disappointing I could have lived with discoloration, but within two years food was starting to stick to the surface. REALLY STICK.A few pieces in the collection still look like new, but only because they're used less frequently/rarely. The two pots I've used the most are not as discolored as the sauté pan, but are bubbled, spotted and scuffed/nicked. The sauté pan is now officially "toast," and I tossed it out today. I'd consider sending the pans back for warranty replacement if it was an isolated defect, but it isn't, clearly all the pots/pans are headed in the same direction ... south. The so-called titanium nonstick surface simply doesn't last. Caveat emptor.

Scanpan is perfect galley cookware

I've used Scanpan at home for years and love it. The handles are cool, comfortable and sturdy. It retains heat well and has a super flat bottom that doesn't warp. It doesn't scratch with its very tough fired-on ceramic-titanium surface--no Teflon to scratch through or flake off. And unlike most non-stick pans you can use metal utensils (marks from metal utensils are not scratches of the surface, but rather more like marks upon the surface similar to what metal pots leave in a porcelain sink...easily removed with a bit of Barkeeper's friend). Its non-stick surface is great for cooking. Read the directions on how to get the most out of cooking on the Scanpan surface. I use either water, broth, or a tiny bit of oil, but never spray-ons. I even successfully cook eggs with no oil. Clean up is a dream. It never warps from going from heat to cold water. In fact, Scanpan instructs you to do it just that way, and it works beautifully. The cold water on the hot pan lifts all the food off the surface, so that a quick swipe with a brush or sponge and a tad of detergent leaves Scanpan clean. It has all the attributes perfect for efficient galley cooking....sturdy, cool comfortable handles, non-stick, easy to clean with little water, ability to go from hot stove to cold sink without worrying about warping. This particular pan is perfect for 1-2 people. With it's high sides, the saute pans are better for boat galleys than the quite low sided fry pans. Food and liquids have less chance of slopping over the edges when the boat lurches. Because of my satisfaction with Scanpan at home, my son, who loves to cook, has outfitted his boat with Scanpan and is very pleased with their performance too.

Lightweight, indestructible pans that cook beautifully

I bought the Scanpan skillet with a glass lid about 15 years ago. It is my favorite pan! It gets hot enough to really sear meat like cast iron, but it doesn't weigh a ton like cast iron. The handle is long enough to keep your hands safely away from the heat and it's shaped to fit my hand beautifully. You can clean these pans with copper scrubs or just about any sponge and not ruin the finish. If you put a little oil in when the pan is warm, food does not stick much, so cleaning isn't an issue. I can't imagine how some of the other reviewers managed to destroy these pans. The only caution in the instructions is to turn the heat down to "medium" once the pan has heated up. Is that so hard?I liked this pan so much that I bought both a larger and smaller Scanpan and they have also given me years of good use.
