5Excellent planer, not quite up to the Germans, but high quality
By Canada Glulam
As background, I am a timber frame / glulam professional, I make my living from big wood. I have a strong preference for Mafell products as they, though expensive, are simply outstanding. I purchased the this planer to work along side our Mafell and here is what I found:- a solid work horse well priced.Biggest drawbacks in comparison are:- Knives. I wish I could buy higher quality replacements. Knives are ok.- Power. Unit is down on power from 240 volt Mafell. Upside, no step up converter required. All in all, a solid, reliable unit that I am happy with, down slight on performance and consumables, but more than made up for in price. Great value in the segment.

5Serious planer
By Edward Carson
I own a timber framing company. This is not my 1st planer of this make. If you have wide boards or timbersand don't wish to set up a building and stationary unit, this is the only way to go. Treat it good and it'll treatyou good.

Machine is great everything planed from now on would recommend it to anyone.I would recommend buying a few spare sets of blades though as planing air dried oak can take the edge off very quickly.

Went with this over the DW. Very impressed, more than enough power and torque for any job... Used more for concrete that is 27 years aged, 3/8 bit cut through like butter in hammer mode... You will not go wrong on this beast...

5buy Makita!
By ventingisok
My Porter Cable hammer drill sounded like a regular drill, when it was new. Shrill, loud and I thought that was the sound of working tool. This Makita changes everything, at least for slow to catch up me. This drill sounds like a jet, or rather the jet sound of the coolest machine you ever saw in a movie, quiet and controlled. I was using 1/2" drill bit into wet 6x6 pressure treated posts for rebars. This Makita changed what I expect from tools for performance and noise.

5Corded impact driver without LED light and without batteries hassle
By Handy Man
I own Makita cordless impact driver that came with a fluoroscent work light and a drill. Two batteries are dying after 3 years of quite heavy home remodeling use.Cost of batteries replacement (two of them) is around one hundred sixty bucks. Therefore, I purchased this impact driver.Pros:- Ergonomics is very good - holding it in my palm is great (I have a rather short fingers)- Weight distribution is great too - see the handle position in the middle of top part (it looks like a letter T with a handle slightly slanted). Handle in my Hitachi drill is almost at the end of top part. This causes drill part with chuck to go down when holding drill horizontally. This puts strain on my palms. No strains when using Makita. A pleasure to work with.- Corded means I never have to worry about charging batteries and buying batteries (money saver)- Made in Japan which means that it should last forever- Lightweight - I believe it weighs less than a cordless impact driver- Long cord - I believe it is 8 feet long- Drives screws consistently thanks to 120V supply- Well designed plastic case has plenty of space for cord and other accessoriesCons:- Lack of LED light (LED light is very useful)- Cord can be sometimes in a way- Expensive due to the fact that it was made in Japan (no regrets though)- It has longer body compared to cordless impact driver - it might be difficult to fit between joists especially when driving longer screws.Overall I am pleased with this impact driver that drives #10 4" Philips decking screws quite nicely (I used 9/64" drill bit to drill pilot holes using 1/8" drill bit might cause failure if you drive screw through knot).I am pretty sure it will drive shorter screws much easier. I prefer square head (#2) screws and avoid Philips like a plague. Philips screws are OK probably up to 2". Philips screws start to be a hassle at length of 3" or more. Not so with square ones. No wonder why furniture manufacturers use square screws for at least two decades. I purchase my square screws (Scorpio brand) at Curtis Lumber. I also used Deckmate screws from Home Depot but Curtis Lumber has a better selection of screws. I tend to buy 25 lbs of screws of the same size because it gives the best bang for the buck.I used this Makita impact driver to install 5/4" mahogany decking using #10 stainless steel screws. I drilled pilot holes using 9/64" drill bit and not even one S2 screw head was stripped. This impact driver performed flawlessly."What you pay is what you get" definitely applies to this impact driver. This concludes my review. I hope that some people enjoy it.

5Makita impact drill
By Craig Forget
Its a great piece of equipment to have. The impact option allow's you to screws so much more ifficiently, without slipping or stripping the heads of screws. I have my own business as a finish carpenter, and I will tell you, thiss drill is the best drill that I own. Its not like a cordless, that dies all of the time, and only last a couple of years before it needs replacing. And if your wondering about putting regular drill bits, without the hex bottoms to it, you can purchase a 3/8 quick chuck to put on to the drill from makita, which cost about 25$.

5great tool
By A. Hachmann
This tool has exceeded my expectations. Even with a light gauge extension cord attached it is much lighter than the Dewalt 18volt cordless model it replaced. It has lots of torque. The only downside is how many driver bits I go through. The impact ready bits hold up better. This tool is hands down the best way to drive deck screws. I can't believe Makita is the only manufacturer of this type of tool.

5Best sander we have ever used
By Troy Wuelfing
We purchased this sander for finishing timbers. We build timber frame homes and need a heavy duty sander. There are a couple reviews of the sander referring to "plastic" I am not sure what the perception of materials are for the reviewers saying this, but there is no way you have an all metal sander, and if you did it would weigh a ton and fatigue you very quickly.back to the point, we have run this sander with 200lb guys leaning on it with most of their weight for hours. It gets hot, but has never had a problem. When you have a few thousand square feet of weathered timber to clean up this thing is awesome. It works better than a belt sander for our purposes and when you need it to hog off material you flip the red lever and it becomes a super powered beast.Bottom line, we use this sander professionally and don't take it easy on it. If your looking for a very well built sander that is heavy duty this is the one for you.it is a little expensive, but we have never found a better sander. We have the festool one as well and it doesn't seem to have any advantage, other than the cool bright green color to let everyone know you spent a lot of money on your tool.our only regret is that we didn't buy one sooner.

5There Goes Bosch! Rebuttal
By Tom Diver
Great Product!I don't know what product "Jonman x484" is talking about, but it can't be the Orbit Sander. I have been involved in woodworking for over 20 years and own a variety of Bosch tools. My latest purchase was the Orbit Sander to cut down on "sanding" time, and the product lives up to expectations. The two speeds allows you to "rough" sand and "finish" sand without changing tools. It is also very comfortable to use, almost like it was made for my hands. Also, once again, Bosch included a place for the wrench in the design of this tool. I love that feature! No more looking around for the right wrench to change out pads. The only negative is I feel that they should include a vacuum attachment as a bonus.

5Rotex, WATCH YOUR BACK!
By Benjamin P. Greer Jr.
My title is somewhat in jest being that I own and have used many Festool products and they are great, but it seems to me that they have always been somewhat over priced and seem to be made out of more and more plastic every year. For months now, I have been contemplating buying a drum sander to help speed up production as well as tighten up quality in the shop. I have watched hours of video and have read hundreds of reviews on numerous products before coming to the conclusion that for the money and the fact that you still need to run a sander like this over your product after the drum sander I was better off saving my money for a larger wide belt sander when the time is right. I looked at of course the Festool first but was having a hard time justifying the $495.00 that every dealer wanted, (Festool requires their products to be sold at retail or else.) I also looked into the Makita but it seemed to have so-so reviews and no dust collection. After all of this research I opted for the Bosch. Well let me just say that after finishing my first set of cabinets with it, What a Machine! Tons of power (seriously, it takes a little getting used to in TURBO mode). It's smooth and has great dust collection when hooked up to my shop-vac. It is as aggressive as a belt sander but without the risk of gouging your work piece. And being able to flip the switch and go right into orbital sanding with the same grit cuts down tremendously on sanding time. I sanded 35 white oak doors and drawer fronts in about 2.5 hours and they looked awesome, normally I would have been there all day. And funny enough, I still used my Festool ETS 150 3 to finish sand everything (it's a pretty sweet machine). Sorry for the long winded review but I feel it is important to give an honest review along with some of my reasoning so that those of you considering making this purchase can make an informed decision. I would buy it again!!
