4Gets the job done
By Leuf
Let me start by saying that there are no shortage of different types of sanders on the market. And edge sander is one of the few that live up to the promise of saving you tremendous amounts of time while delivering better quality. If you have the room for one I highly recommend getting one, and this is the least expensive option.I'm very happy with the operation of the unit in it's normal function, sanding at 90 degrees. Getting the belts on/off and tracking properly is easy. The main shortcoming is the support of the table and angling of the table. While the Grizzly design promises to be easier to move up and down than other options with it's wheel adjustment, it just doesn't lock rigidly in place, especially if you raise it up. The locking on the support arm requires a wrench, but you can replace that bolt with a 5 star knob with a 1" stud which makes things easier. For angling the table, the pivot point is not inline with the table which means it gets closer or further from the belt as you change the angle. The mounting of the table is in slots so you can move it, but this is a pain.Another shortcoming is that the dust shroud on the end extends out in front of the belt which gets in the way of long stock. It's not easy to remove it, four screws - two of which are hard to get to. Plan on having to alter the shroud. My experience is that Grizzly likes to make the specs of their machines look great on paper, but often at the expense of the usability of the machine. In this case it doesn't stop the machine from being usable for its primary purpose. But if you intend to often be tilting the table I recommend either looking elsewhere or plan on building your own support mechanism. The table itself is excellent. The machine itself is invaluable.

5Excellent machine
By sjl
I don't write many reviews, but given that I have used other product reviews I feel I should contribute. I bought this machine for use in a home shop. The machine came well packed on a pallet. Luckly I was able to get help both loading and unloading from my minivan as it is heavy. I built my own custom wood stand, so I was able to adjust to my prefered work height. The machine is built of hefty cast iron and ran smoothly without adjustment. My only modifications were to add a second dust collector at the edge of the table and modify the dust hood with a flap door that allows me to sand the edge of an 8ft board. The machine has worked without a hitch, with good dust collection and stays in adjustment between uses. This machine does not oscillate but I find that I free sand most boards without relying on the table so oscilation would not add much benifit to me. If I was using the table alot, I would a second rod as a locking mechanism to the table. I tried the end table for the sanding drum and found it too much hassel for routine use. (I like my oscillating spindle sander better.) If I really needed to use the drum sander I would add a secondary table and use the end bracket as extra support.....I feel the price benifit of this machine is high......have fun, work safe.

4Grizzly provides great value.
By T. Uryga
Bought this as an extra unit to use where there wasn't a lot of room, or where I didn't want to take my Starrett height gage. It's not digital, but it never quits working because of a dead battery. Quality is actually pretty good. Not beautiful, but far better than the typical Chinese Slave Labor junk we're faced with these days.Great choice for a student, home workshop, or as a spare in a bigger shop, and the price is right!

4Fairly handy
By D. Pannell
Bought 08/07. This chuck is mega stout. And will grip the crap out of anything. I even use it for some weird looking ashtrays, made from the cut corner pieces left over from rounding off a bowl blank with a chainsaw. Works like a charm. A 3-jaw is nothing you want to learn chuck turning on however. A 4-jaw is much safer and holds the piece more securely. But this one accomidates irregular shaped pieces better. If you have a good catch with this chuck, you will have a spinning piece of wood airborne in your shop. Be careful. If you have a gentle touch with your tools, this chuck is plenty safe. If you know what you are doing, and would like to utilize the advantages of a big heavy 3-jaw chuck, then you can't do much better than this. It's high weight helps your lathe speed from slowing at all while you are working on a nearly finished, light weight bowl. Idk, it still feels like there is alot of mass under the chisel tip.

5Great product
By CalFord
For the price this is a super good chuck, very happy with it. Machining and materials are good. Chucks line up well. Its not so much or precision metal lathe work, but then those chucks cost $500-$1500.

4Grizzly G1183 Belt/disc Sander
By Robert E. Bushnell
I have owned this model for several years. The only difficulties I have had is a need to watch and make minor adjustments on the travel of the belt during use, and the absence of a dust collection port. I replaced the screws and nuts on the belt guard with thumb screws to facilitate removal of the guard prior to replacement of the belt. Maybe not the best piece of machinery due to the type of bearing used, but quite satisfactory for periodic use.

5Great machine
By Louis A. Morrell III
This is a very capable machine. Unit runs with no vibration, it is very quiet and has ample power. The sanding drums last much longer than I expected due to the oscillating action and the cut is smooth and fast. This would be a great addition to any shop.

5Awesome!
By Sawdust
My machine arrived with freight damage. Grizzly offered to send a second machine but I felt, with a few parts, that the machine was easily repairable. Without hesitation they shipped all the parts I needed and sent some extra sanding drums for my trouble! Their customer service was the best I ever experienced. They even called me back twice to check on my progress! The machine is up and running now. It is heavy and quiet. It's a nice addition to my wood shop. You won't regret buying this unit. In a Delta review the buyer talks of the sharp corners on this machine's table. I looked around my shop and found the same sharp corners on my bandsaw, tablesaw, radial arm saw, planer, etc. etc. etc. To spend $250 more for the Delta because of the corners isn't necessary in my opinion.

5This is a Good One!
By Kevin La Due
I bought this machine with a great deal of trepidation, but soon found that my fears were baseless. I have owned this machine for five years and use it regularly. It has been an excellent performer and has given me no trouble. It runs quietly and all spindles run absolutely true, no runout. I have equal experience with the Jet spindle sander and feel that the Grizzly is equal to it in every regard, especially considering the difference in price.

4Good buffer, Great Service
By 480 Bravo
When the buffer arrived, the box looked like UPS had ran over it several times and didnt bother trying to tape it back up, well the grinder is rock solid and fared well, the on off pull/push switch is prety flimsey and had snapped off. I called Grizzley and they immediately sent a replacement. we will most likely end up replacing the switch with a better one but for now it is fine.
