5Functional And Decorative
By A. Fisher
I've been very pleased with the purchase of my Perfex Cast Aluminum Salt & Pepper Mill. I was looking for a salt and pepper mill that were small in size, functional and decorative (for I have a french country style theme in my kitchen). These mills served all my needs. I had read reviews about this product, and all seemed very positive. Although my husband (and I) had trouble accepting the overall cost for the purchase of a simple salt and pepper mill, we are both delighted with our purchase. It is very simple to add your salt and peppercorns to the mills. It can feel a bit awkward when initially using the mills because of the small size as well as the "crank" on top of the mill, but you get over that quickly. We previously had used a Banton wooden salt and pepper mill, but this product takes the cake.

4bottom stem, great grinder
By doc
Our son gave us this grinder. I changed the nut and the stem. Put in a lock washer for a couple of years. Took it off. Now the nut moves too much again..

5nice piece of machinery
By dr. cliff
i bought the perfex pepper mill several years ago with a gift card- a frivolous purchase i might not have made with cash out of my pocket. i liked it so much, i came back to buy the matching salt mill with cash out of my pocket.i like these for three reasons- firstly, they work perfectly. I hate cheap tools that barely work, so these are a pleasure to use. secondly, because they are built well, i expect they will be working perfectly for decades. thirdly, they're a beautiful, timeless design. they sit by the cooktop when I'm cooking, and they come right to the table with me for meals.

Best Ultra Fine Mesh Chinois by Piazza - 8 Inch

Ultra Fine Mesh Chinois by Piazza - 8 InchBuy Ultra Fine Mesh Chinois by Piazza - 8 Inch

Ultra Fine Mesh Chinois by Piazza - 8 Inch Product Description:

  • Ultra fine mesh stainless steel
  • 8" diameter
  • Made in Italy

Product Description

This hefty made mesh chinois does an excellent job of straining out the sediment and aromatics from stocks, bouillons, and fruit purees. Since the cone is less deep - 7 inch instead of the usual 10 or 11 inch - you can use it over a larger variety of pots and bowls. The cone is an uninterrupted flow of beautifully woven ultrafine mesh so dense it could filter cloud wisps out of the sky. The handle, welded to the frame, is a curved sheet of metal encircling a hollow core, giving you a double layer of metal to hold on to, which is more comfortable to grip than the average chinois's long, thin spatulate handle. The bracket under the rim opposite the handle lets you rest the chinois on a pot or bowl. 8 inch in diameter and made of stainless steel. Made in Italy.

3Particles get stuck between the 2 mesh layers...
By E. Persson
This is a very high quality, nicely made chinois. I often use it to strain sauces prior to reducing, for a really smooth texture. This is an ultra-fine mesh for sure, but I did not realize that it is a double-layer of mesh when I bought it. What happens is that lots of particles make it though the first layer, but not the second, so after straining stock for example, there are a bunch of pepper bits stuck in between the screens. I can't seem to get them out, and I don't want those things inadvertently flavoring the next sauce I make. So the bottom-line is that I can't effectively clean it after use. So I think I will sell this one, and go back to a single-layer ultra-fine mesh traditional sieve (Williams Sonoma has one).

5OUTSTANDING!
By Waves
This is the second and the last chinois I have purchased. The first one was French and rusted. This one is high quality stainless and ultra fine for stocks, sauces etc. It is an amazing addition to my kitchen. I am buying another for my son (who is a chef) and daughter in law.

Where to Buy Wusthof Classic 5-Inch Cook's Knife

Wusthof Classic 5-Inch Cook's KnifeBuy Wusthof Classic 5-Inch Cook's Knife

Wusthof Classic 5-Inch Cook's Knife Product Description:

  • 5-inch cook's knife for cutting, chopping, slicing, and dicing
  • Precision forged from a single piece of high-carbon stainless steel
  • Full-tang, triple-riveted synthetic handle affords superior strength and balance
  • Washing by hand recommended; made in Germany
  • Measures approximately 11 by 3 by 1 inches; limited lifetime warranty

Product Description

Cook's knives are indispensable kitchen helpers. They perform a wide variety of cutting chores, from chopping and mincing to slicing and dicing. The 5-inch blade on this knife provides sufficient heft to allow the knife rather than the cook to do most of the cutting labor; its smaller blade makes it ideal for all but the largest chopping jobs. Many people favor a cook's knife of this size because it combines the maneuverability of a paring knife with the strength and weight of a larger cook's knife.

Like all knives in Wusthof's Classic series, the knife's blade, tang, and bolster come precision forged from a single piece of precisely tempered, high-carbon, stain-resistant steel. This tempering allows the knife to hold its edge for an extremely long time. Even more, it comes with a unique compound angle not seen in many knives. This angle tapers from the spine of the knife to the edge to allow for a sturdy, yet extremely sharp edge while it also tapers from the bolster to the tip to give the knife strength as well as flexibility. Traditional in look, Classic knives are seamlessly constructed with a visible full tang triple-riveted into an ergonomically-shaped synthetic handle. Though the knife is dishwasher-safe, Wusthof recommends hand-washing all fine cutlery. Made in Germany, the knife measures approximately 11 by 3 by 1 inches and carries a limited lifetime warranty.

5A perfect knife!
By Zaine Ridling
The Wustof Classic series enjoys two great advantages over its other kitchen competitors -- balance and time-tested design. It stays in your hand, does not tend to tip forward or up when you relax your grip, and best of all, allows you to cut precisely when needed rather than broadly. When you're ready for what will be your favorite, buy this one. This 5-inch Wusthof Classic Chef's Knife saves money with more expensive meats because it allows you to leave the meat as intact as possible by quickly and cleanly removing only silverskin, fat, and gristle. Yes, it is expensive but well worth it. Just a note: the 6-inch version of this knife is only 5/8 of an inch longer than this 5-inch version. The pictures are deceptive. So get the one you want; you'll use it forever. If you cannot afford it, consider the Victorinox 6-Inch Chef's Knife. It's a great value, holds an edge, and is very lightweight, which makes it easy to handle.

5Best knife, perfect size for home use
By JVC
This is my favorite knife for home use. It is hard to find in stores (and even on Amazon) and comes only in the Classic line (not the Classic Ikon line). Most residential counters are too high for those of average height to use the rolling wrist action that professionals use. Thus, the length of a cook's knife for home use is less important. (That said, the 4.5 inch knife is too short for rolling the wrist, but the 5 inch is just long enough, when I need to roll along.) The handle of the blade rides high enough off the cutting surface to permit easy chopping without finger contact. The 5-inch length is perfect for the most common every-day tasks. In short, buy this knife if you can find it. I own one and have given two as gifts. You cannot go wrong with this one.

5These knives are the best
By NJT
In my opinion, the Wusthof classic series of knives is superior to anything out there. They hold their edge, and this 5-inch knife is the perfect size for almost anything I want to cut. It feels great in my hand and is weighted nicely. I'm extremely pleased with my purchase.

5Better than the best
By Warren J. Dew
Wusthof makes the best knife blades in the business, and in my opinion the best quality knives. Cheaper knives generally dull more quickly, and some never get truly sharp at all. Wusthof knives, in contrast, get clean, exact cuts every time, and are a joy to use. These Culinar knives are a cut above even the Wusthof Classic design on which Wusthof made their reputation. When one picks up a Culinar knife, it feels like the handle molds itself to one's hand, as if the knife is an extension of oneself, rather than a mere implement.A close look at the shape of the handle will show why. Wusthof Classic and Grand Prix knives - along with the knives of most other manufacturers - have a traditional handle shape, thicker in the middle with a straight back. That does provide a good strong grip if your hand is the right size - and they are pretty good for me, since my hands are of average size. The gently curved shape of the Culinar handles, though, while providing just as strong a grip, allows more control over the cutting action and the precise angle of the blade. The convex back of the hilt fills out the palm, providing more contact for a more secure hold. The taper in the handle makes it a perfect fit not just for average size hands, but for any size hand: a smaller hand will stay toward the bolster, where the handle is thinner, but a bigger hand will cover the handle further back, where it is thicker. The bolster - the thick part at the base of the blade - has also been refined for the Culinar line. The transition from blade to bolster is gentler, and rather than being cut straight across the blade, the bolster is angled slightly to facilitate the forward hold used by some chefs. In this forward hold, the index finger is angled down on the right side of the blade - the left side for left handers - just past the bolster and the tip of the thumb is on the blade on the opposite side from the index finger. The forward hold facilitates a rapid rocking cut where the edge of the blade near the tip is held in contact with the cutting board, and the rest of the blade is rolled down on the food to be cut. A rapid rocking action with one hand while feeding the food through with the other can reduce the food to the desired slices, strips, or dice in record time. The Culinar chef's knife is available in several lengths. The 20 cm (8") length is the one most commonly used, and the one I have; it works well for almost any cutting task in the kitchen. There are times when it feels like a larger size might work even better, such as when using a rocking cut on a large vegetable, but the 8" blade length always seems to be sufficient in the end. Note that the length is measured along the cutting edge of the blade; the back of the blade is slightly longer in Culinar knives due to the refinements in the bolster shape. When first introduced in 1999, Wusthof Culinar knives cost about double the equivalent Classic knives. They were worth it if you could afford them, but many could not. Now, though, the prices on the Culinar knives have been reduced to only about one third more than that for the Classic knives. If you are in the market for a chef's knife, stretch a bit and buy a Culinar. You won't regret it.

5Great value, classic style with great looks, perfect weight, and very practical.
By S. Lee
This review was updated again 3/13/13 below. Still going strong and looking great for 5 years now!I got this set for my mother who was extremely happy with the stylish look, quality, weight per piece, sturdiness, and value (I was the one happy with the value). This is a very handsome flatware set that can be used on a daily basis or for special occasions. It is well worth the value and after seeing and using these I will be buying a set for my sister for Christmas. You won't be disappointed with the price, value, look, or feel. This is an excellent set and I'm glad I chose this particular service. I have no regrets in purchasing this set. Please be aware that although J A Henckels is a quality German company this set of flatware is manufactured in another country. Even so, the quality is NOT compromised and meets or exceeds Henckels standard of quality.UPDATE 11/25/2010Due to a question I decided to update this since I forgot I had rated this set. I am still extremely happy with this purchase. Unlike another rater none of our flatware has scratches or rust. I tend to wonder what the other poster is cleaning with. Not one piece has bent either. One would have to purposely try and bend it with force or use it as a pry bar to open something. My mother's set is still flawless and still looks great. Our only bummer is someone threw away 2 spoons and that had nothing to do with Henckels. IMHO regardless of where this was manufactured the owner and I are still extremely happy with this set of flatware after 2 years of daily use.If these unhappy raters have bought from 3rd party vendors that could be the reason for their problem. (Buying knock offs.) Buy direct from Amazon LLC and you should get the real deal.Update 3/13/2103 This set is still going fine and all "remaining" items still look great. As my folks got older I think 2 or 3 pieces got thrown away accidentally over the years. Going on 5 years now with this great set!

5WOW The Mother of ALL Silverware
By Wendy Meyer
I ordered this set hoping it was really 18/10 and a good quality. I wasnt disappointed. This set IS 18/10 and it is extremly heavy. Very shiny and does fine in the dishwasher, no rust. The size is a lot bigger than I have ever bought. It is like the mother of all silverware. BIG forks, knives, ect.. The hostess set is really nice, I dont use them but it is still nice. The pieces are a really elegant design and solid one piece construction that is totally smooth. This is my bargain of the year, top quality and bargain price.

2Strong, looks great, but rusted easily.
By Rob
First off, let me say this flatware set is extremely good looking. It's also lighter than I expected, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not. However, I followed Henckels' dishwasher directions perfectly and upon pulling the flatware out of the dishwasher I found some of them already had begun to have rust spots. After one wash!I'm really disappointed. This was the first set of "high quality" flatware I ever bought. Even el cheapo flatware from Chi-Mart holds off on rusting for at least a few washes.I am in the process of returning this set to Amazon. Thanks for making it easy to return this stuff, Amazon. I'm going to search for another new set now...sigh. By the way, this set is made in China in case you were wondering.

5Great Juicer Period
By JahChosen
I spent months researching juicers and surfing veggie themed threads. That research paid off because after owning this juicer for a year, we're still as thrilled as the first day it arrived. I bought it from cooking.com because Amazon wasn't selling it at the time. The price seems to be about the same still.

My wife and I juice everyday and the juicer is sooo easy to clean. Just put a plastic bag in the pulp receptacle and you're good to go. One less item to wash. We use a toothbrush on the blade basket and a regular sponge on the bowl. The blade/basket and bowl are stainless steel. Those infomercial juicers use cheap plastic wherever possible. Trust me, you're only paying for advertising with those TV juicers. This is the real deal. It's quieter than our blender and one large apple, 3 carrots and two oranges yields us two massive glasses of juice. It also has a small foot print. I bought one for my mother and my wife is getting one for her sister.

If you have a large family you might want to skip the mini and go for the regular sized L'Equip but many online reviews say that the mini is actually better for some reason. All I can say is that it is more than enough for a family of four. After a year, the blades are still sharp although not as sharp as new but still going strong. If you're looking for THE BEST JUICER for less than 100 bucks this is it!!

5Excellent Juicer
By Ken Houston
I am very pleased with this juicer. I have used my sister's premium juicer a couple of times and this compares well.It handles everything well that I have tried including delicate leaf, hard and soft vegetables, several fruits and melons with seeds and rinds. The yield is good as shown by the dry pulp. Yield does depend on produce type and quality as with all juicers. The speed that the produce is pushed into the blade also affects it. Its power invites vigorous processing so press slowly and at a steady rate, as recommended in the manual, if you want more juice. And process different items in order of increasing tendency to clog the strainer and declining juice content.Cleanup is easy except for the pulp basket. The sharp corners of this bat wing shaped container are hard to get to when hand cleaning -- this is no problem in the dishwasher or if you line it with a plastic bag to collect pulp to throw out as most do. I sometimes save the pulp, add water to make a slurry, season it and then drink or spoon it to get the extra fiber. It's not always appetizing but neither is Metamucil. One reviewer pointed out that the plastic ring on top of the metal juice bowl provides a place for food residue to hide. The ring seems to fit tight and any gap there is too small see. I haven't seen any particles there after processing but they would be small since this area is exposed only to juice after passing through the strainer. To be safe, I rinse it immediately after juicing and run a toothbrush around the edge to loosen any residue that might be unseen after brushing the straner basket. The manual is very concise. It only gives assembly and cleaning instructions along with some cursory juicing tips, so you may need a separate book for recipes and more tips.I really like the contrast of the gray (it's also available in traditional white) and amber plastic along with the polished stainless. The dark amber cover won't show stains like those from carrots on normal clear ones. The unit also seems to be well made -- maybe you've already guessed I'm an engineer. I am confident enough with its construction to order a replacement blade to have when this one gets dull.

4MIni but Mighty!
By Laurie Flood
My Jack LaLane infomercial juicer only lasted a year and a half. It had a plastic screw on the motor where it met a metal nut on the blade assembly. Needless to say, the plastic wore away, rendering the juicer unusable unless you own a machine shop. I am having electrolyte problems, so I need to juice daily. I found this one at the health food store, but went home, because it said "mini" on the box. I looked online at reviews and decided to take a chance on this one. I am very pleased with my choice! The juicer is really small, but more powerful than the Jack La Lane. The feed shoot is smaller, but you will not need to chop the carrots in half. I love the stainless steel feed basket, because it will not stain orange over time. The only con is that the juice quantity is low compared to the Jack LaLane. I will try the tip about feeding more slowly to get more juice. There was no pulp in the juice. I always feed my lettuce leaves wrapped around my celery, but would still have some clogging with the Jack LaLane, no clogging with this one!It also has a 6 year warranty on the whole juicer. The part of my prior juicer that went out only had a 90 day warranty. Also, they don't tell you on the infomercial that the one payment that they waive they will get back in the ridiculous cost they charge for shipping, so I would suggest you get one of the juicers like this one from a reputable source with a long warranty on the whole juicer.
