4Does the job and does it well.

I have had this external battery for about a week now. Firstly, it is small and very thin. They ship it with stickable rubber stops so you can place it beneath your laptop without slippage. I personally don't find it that heavy but I can see how people with a notebook might get that impression.

As far as battery life goes, you can use it for a typical work day without any problems. Imagine never having to find a wall socket again. Furthermore, it is great not having to lug around long cables. All you have is the flat batter and a 6 inch cable that comes out the back. Also, you can use your laptop at full speed for the day instead of the sluggish performance that is required by most laptop batteries.

There is one dowside that I noticed. The attachement is not inclued with the battery itself. This means you will have to go to Valence's webpage and find the appropriate attachement for your laptop and buy that serperately (~$30). Furthermore, the cable attachement doesn't really "lock in" to the battery. I had it slip out on my once by accident while I was moving my laptop around. It hasn't happend since and it doesn't come out without a bit of effort. That being said it would be nice if they had something that snapped on and locked.

I wanted to put this up really quick.. not a great review, but a quick overview of my opinion. Hope it helps.

2Performance not upto promise
By A. Gupta
I got the N-Charge II after searching for alternate power sources for my laptop for quite a while. The biggest advantage that N-Charge offered was 5 hours of power - a very good thing when it comes to watching DVDs on planes when combined with the laptop's native battery.I expected that N-Charge would last atleast 4.5 hours, and maybe drop to 4 hours with time - when watching DVDs on laptop. However, during initial use, the battery did not even make 3 hours when doing simple word processing and office work. It typically ran out in about 2.66 hours. This is with LCD brightness set to low, and not running any CD/DVD. I have an IBM T40 with 1GB RAM and Pentium M centrino.Few other observations:1. The quality of the connections was pretty solid as the reviewer before me mentioned2. The Valence co. didnt respond to the emails I send them about some hi-pitched noise, that happened everytime I unplugged the battery from the power source. So this contradicts point made before of the high customer service over email. Maybe they are better on the phone.3. Its power is rated at 12.8V and 4.050AH - something that isn't mentioned on their website. I found better power for T40 - 6.6AH and 10.8V - for $180 - and I can get it for cheaper through some deals. It doesnt offer the flexibility of N Charge - but seems to be a better value to me.All and all, a disappointing product for $200, one that I will return.

5I would recommend this over the OTHER brand!!!

I have both a NCharge and an Electroyava external battery and first off, I would like to say that NCharge has a far better customer service than the Canadian based Electoyava. You be the judge...

I send in my Electroyava for a broken tiny contact pin inside the battery end of the connector and it took Electrovaya nearly two months, a hundred bucks for replacement plus shipping cost, numerous emails and phone calls and then, dealing with the NY State based contact and starting all over again, then faxing my signature (that last one was unheard of from all my dealings online!!!) before I got a brand new replacement. They surely could have send me a replacement earlier instead of giving me the runaround and waited and waited.

Electroyava's tiny plug-in connection was secured only by the snug rubber edge that surrounded the whole battery- a tiny hole in the back within the rubber edge, and the contact pin could easily be wiggled, twisted, misaligned and break while the connection behind the NCharge is very, very beefy, firm and positive with no tiny little contact in the middle of some tiny black hole to break! In another word, NCharge battery's construction was designed well and with users in mind.

Meanwhile, I send a comment via email to Valance and their customer service called me back the next day. Find me another company that would do that!

Anyway, I love my NCharge battery and my only complain was those very fragile, tiny black plastic alignment tabs/guides flanking the connector. One broke off within days after I received the battery but it did not hamper its operation. I would recommend an NCharge over any other brand and a serious consideration when you are thinking of buying another factory battery as a backup! It might be a little more expensive initially but it is worth it in the long run.

I might recommend gluing a 99 cent, 2mm foam rubber mat from the craft store on top of the battery so your laptop would not slide around on top of it. Then again, you could use some Velcro tabs too.

Lets give Valance some more business so they could produce better and less expensive products for us consumers, I'd say.
