5Voigtlander's splendid update of the Leica Summaron
By John Kwok
The Voigtlander Color-Skopar Pan 35mm f2.5 wide angle lens should appeal to Leica screw mount and M rangefinder camera users who are interested in travelling light, with a pocket camera that is almost easy to fit inside a deep coat or shirt pocket. This lens may be the ideal tool for street photographers interested in acquiring a compact 35mm rangefinder lens; ergonimically it almost resembles the Contax Zeiss 45mm f2.8 Tessar or the Nikon 45mm f2.8 Nikkor lenses with respect to size and shape. I have seen at Erwin Puts's website an enthusiastic technical report by him in which he claims that this lens is optically superior to Leica's vintage 35mm f2.8 Summaron lens made for its M mount rangefinder cameras from the 1950s to early 1970s; I believe Popular Photography had another splendid technical report on this lens in a recent issue. Owners of M mount rangefinder cameras will have to purchase a screw mount to M mount adaptor to mount this lens onto their cameras (However, this lens may be the new M mount version, so purchasing a screw mount to M mount adaptator will be unnecessary.).

5Voigtlander's Superb Pancake
By M. Aubrey
I'm not sure why another reviewer says the focus, "feels plasticy". There's no plastic in this lens at all. It's solidly built with brilliant resolution in the center and very good resolution in the corners. Honestly, I'm amazed by how sharp it is considering how small it is. It's simply incredible. I also really like the colors the lens produces. Very crisp.I also gave the lens a try on my Olympus OM-D E-M5. Center resolution is still absolutely excellent, but (as usual for FF wide angles) the corners smear a little bit. The huge draw there is that when this pancake is combined with the Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 and Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 pancakes, you end up with easily the smaller trinity lens set up possible. But whether on μ43 or on an M mount body, this lens is awesome. It would also make for a nice pancake normal that Sony NEX is so noticeably missing.

4voigtlander 35mm
By josh
i bought this lens for my leica and it is actually an updated version which uses the leica m mount. when i first got it, i couldnt get over how compact it was! the build quality is decent, but it feels downgraded compared to my zeiss 50mm f2 planar. the aperture ring is loose and is easily knocked out of place. the focusing ring feels plasticy, but overall focusing is smooth. i cant gripe too much because the leica and zeiss equivalents to this lens are several times more expensive. overall this lens is pretty decent. wide open, its a little soft, vignettes, and ive noticed some color fringing. for black and white, it does give it that "classic" look. stopped down, this lens performs well and produces sharp images.
