The benchmark for diving compasses.

I have greatly enjoyed my SK-7. It works quite well even at significant angles that would lock the card on my other compasses. It is quite robust and has never failed me except in one dive where I had inadvertantly dropped it on the pavement. The compass card was jarred off its moorings and obviously would not turn.After the dive, I took the compass off and gave it a hefty rap on the side, by which I jarred the card enough to snap back into its proper position. The compass was not at all the worse for wear from having been significantly jarred not once but twice (once by an accident, and once intentionally).The compass has continued to serve me very well for dozens of dives since then, and I am more careful about not dropping precision instruments these days, even though I have little fear of permanently damaging my compass.

This compass locks up frequently.

I too had problems with this compass locking up. The first time it happened another diver showed me how to wack it on it's side to free it up... that worked a few times but it eventually froze up for good. After getting lost on my last dive I was literally beating it with a rock to try and get the dial inside to turn. I would not recommend this compass.

I love this compass. It is very usable, not having to hold your arm perfectly level to get the reading. The strap is somewhat difficult, but we just replaced the strap with bungie for easy use. Definitely the best dive compass on the market.
