I have a pair of these that I use for recording vocals on live bands (churches and small bars). I'll swap them out with the house mics (typically an SM-58 or equivalent dynamic). In several cases this was the first condenser an artist had used, and they've always liked the obvious 'new' sound. The fidelity is a significant upgrade, but there's always the limiting factor of the $10 mic pre built in to the house mixer board. Used with a good outboard pre, it is a very strong mic for the money. Yes there are better mics but this puts me reasonably at the point of diminishing returns. Although cardioid, it is VERY sensitive to the angle at which it is held-make sure it is parallel with the mouth, or you lose much of the sibilance. Quality is typical Shure professional grade, no issues with these after several years.

4Great, but one thing....
By kcdkplays
This Mic sounds incredible and I would give it 5 stars except for the fact that it absolutely can't be used in any kind of windy condition at all- EVEN with a good windscreen. I have been performing outside venues in Hilton Head, SC for the last 19 yearsand if the wind is blowing more than 10 mph I put the mic away and get out my Rode mic. It has actually blown a 15" woofer out in my JBL's before because of a sudden gust of wind, and I DON"T put that much low end eq in there or run the mic exceptionally hot. Just thought I would tell anyone out there that is going to use it in an outdoor venue you might want to try something else. If you are indoors it will be one of the best mics you have ever heard. Thanks!

5Great for Vox and Acoustic Guitar
By Hi, I'm Steve
I purchased this initially to mic an acoustic guitar -- a friend had one and and we could really hear the difference compared to the 57 I had been using. Started using it for vocals and couldn't believe how great it sounded. It is great on stage and in the studio and gives the singer real flexibility for different styles. If it broke (highly unlikely) or was stolen I would replace it immediately.
