5Excellent Value
By David C. Brayton
Ordered this machine on Monday morning and it arrived Wednesday morning, just 47 hours later. Kudos to FedEx Freight! It took about an hour to set up. The only assembly required is to bolt together the base. The motor weighs about 140 lbs so you will need a friend to help lift the motor onto the base. The tables are big and sturdy. Both tables needed to be aligned to the spindle/disc, which was easy to do. The motor is more than powerful enough. One downside is that the disc sander is kinda low. Anyone that is taller than 6' will find the disc sander uncomfortably low. The table of the spindle sander is at the right height however. There are two dust collection ports, each 2" in diameter. Why they selected 2" instead of the much more popular 2 1/2" is a mystery. Dust collection is adequate.I'll update this review in six months to let everyone know about durability.22SEP2011--OK. it's been way more than six months. But this machine works fine--still humming along. The dust collection ain't very good--definitely room for improvement on the disk; the spindle collection is decent. And it's a bit difficult to change disks--another area where things could be improved. And changing spindles is a bit awkward--you need to work under the table with two wrenches. I'd change my review to four stars if I could.

4Sturdy Machine - Details Fall Short
By I. Dixon
My sander arrived in just a few days after ordering. It came in a surprisingly small box given the overall size of the equipment.Assembly was simple, but as stated in another review, the top is very heavy. After assembly I noticed that the spindle sander table was askew. It appeared that the top had been hit hard which bent the metal brackets over to one side. The box showed no signs of damage, so I can only assume it was packaged this way.At this point, I had cut the box and Styrofoam inserts into pieces to lift the top out. With the unit already assembled I decide to straighten the problem myself. I removed the table and bent the brackets back to center. This worked out fine and in the end the table was perpendicular to the spindle in all directions.I can't knock Grizzly for their customer support since I didn't bother to call them about the problem. I'm sure that they would have replaced the unit, but I'd rather not deal with shipping it back to grizzly. I am disappointed in their quality control. I'm sure that this thing came from China already bent and that's just not acceptable. Now to the performance of the machine! It's an ingenious combination of two sanding machines. It allows you to sand inside and outside curves while taking up the shop space of one machine. I was shocked at how smooth it runs. The disc and spindle run quiet and are very well balanced. The inserts around the spindle are adequate. They are plastic and sit a little low of the table. Four inserts are provided and two are for angled sanding. The dust collector shield is made from very cheap looking plastic. At a minimum they could have used a black plastic material with some texture instead of the off-white color that looks like they re-melted plastic swept off the floor. Ideally the dust collector would be constructed of sheet metal to match the rest of the machine.Ultimately, this sander is a good machine and a terrific value. I enjoy using it and I'm sure you will too.

4Great sander
By Carol A. Johnston
I have struggled with drum sanders on my drill press for years. I also own a Delta 4" belt 6" disc sander which is pretty small for many of my projects. I recently decided to build a table using zebra wood for the top and walnut for the legs. I decided on curvy legs to go with the oval top. Once they were cut out on the bandsaw I realized I needed something better to sand the legs. I found this sander on Amazon.com and decided to order it to replace my belt/disc sander. I liked the idea of having the disc sander and spindle sander on the same tool to save shop space. I ordered on Monday and it arrived by UPS freight on Wed. I also received the extra sanding sleeves and sanding discs I ordered on the same day. That evening my husband helped me assemble it and I was sanding the next day! I did have to buy some PVC fittings to get the 2" ports attached to my dust collector. The spindle sander and the disc sander both work great--so much better than the drum sanders on my drill press. The machine is quiet and sanding is smooth. The only downside to this tool is the dust collection. More dust ended up on the top of the spindle table than in the dust port. I may rig up some type of collection for the top of the table. My only other problem was getting a new sanding sleeve on the spindle, but talcum powder made the job much easier. All in all, I really like this tool. I wish I had bought it years ago.
