Like other knives in Shun's Classic collection, the knife comes precision-forged in Japan by renowned blade manufacturer KAI. Its eye-catching beauty starts with a VG-10 stainless-steel blade, which features 16 layers of SUS410 high-carbon stainless steel on each side, producing a 33 layered Damascus look, but without the rusting problems associated with Damascus. The Damascus detailing not only enhances the knife's aesthetic appeal, but it also reduces drag and helps maintain the integrity of food when slicing. The knife's sleek good looks continue on into its handle. Offering a D-shaped design for a comfortable grip, the unique ebony Pakkawood handle consists of a fused blend of hardwood veneers and resin to exceptionally noteworthy results. Outstanding!

Shun makes the best kitchen knives I have ever owned, bar none. They all come with a razor sharp edge right out of the box and are easy to re-hone with just a few strokes on a steel (well worth purchasing to accompany this knife). The damascus pattern is gorgeous and the perfectly crafted profile slices through darn near anything (food-like anyway) with ease. The weight and balance of this carving knife are perfect and the complementing fork is one of the best I've seen from any brand. the set is designed for right-handed chefs with an ergonomic d-shaped handle that won't twist or slip in your hand. The storage box is classy too. I've had mine for a couple years and have also given three sets as gifts. It's a great product!

We took it out for the first time yesterday to carve the roast beef. It cut perfectly as one would have expected on a 5 star product. The set comes in a wooden box, great storage since we don't use it very often.

I received the item promptly. AMAZON shipping dept A+. When you open the box there is a wow factor. knife and fork perfectly sitting in the foam setting. Wooden handle with beautiful forged steel blade. Originally made in Japan.I had a chance to use the set few days after purchase at Christmas dinner and it was amazing. So super sharp I didnt have to use any force. It just went through the meat like it was butter. One tip: be careful it is really really sharp. I just accidentally slightly touched my hand with the blade and it was cut.Packaging could be more sophisticated for the price. Like wooden box etc.
