Product Description

IOGear GCE250 KVM Extender allows access to a computer (or KVM) from a remote console (keyboard, monitor, and mouse). It is perfect for any situation where the computer needs to be in a protected area for environmental or security considerations. The console can be located in a convenient location up to 490 feet away from the server or KVM, while your computers remain secured . The GCE250 uses standard CAT-5 cable so you can cut your connection to the exact length needed, which makes placement your choice rather than accommodating someone else's compromise of a correct cable length . A key feature of the GCE250 is built-in 8KV ESD protection and 2KV surge protection. It also features a custom ASIC that ensures the utmost in reliability and compatibility. It senses the distance to the system and automatically adjusts the gain to compensate.

4Share a PC
By DV_Editor
We wanted to share a PC with internet access for a classroom. PC is in the back, projector is close to the front. Had to be able to control the PC from the front of the classroom next to the projector, without changing the PC workstation. Cat5 cable connecting the two units made this simple and reliable. I wish there were more pictures of this product, as it comes with two boxes: one sits close to the PC, the other close to the remote access point. Each box also comes with an AC adapter, so you need an outlet for this. We grounded the unit by the PC to the PC case. There was no practical way to ground the remote access. So far no problems. The boxes also have a local/remote switch, but also appear to switch automatically depending which end is used. Works fine with PS/2 optical mouse and keyboard.

4Good Value
By Boogaloo
I've used many types of KVM extenders, yet this unit works as well as those costing twice as much with two extra pluses. The housing is metal and it has built in supression that requires a user supplied ground connection. Both are attractive because I use these in high power radio frequency environments where interference and lightning are regular issues. I have lost one set to lightning at one of my worse locations despite a good master ground. What I can say is that it did not blow up as badly as other units. From there it works well and responds well with both local and remote KVM hardware attached. I can recommend it. 4-stars because despite the grounding system, lightning can get it.
