almost, but not perfect

It is a 76 piece set.Cons: 2 of the taps didn't have the laser written identification. Will need to match with die or thread pitch gauge. On the thread gauge one of the leaves has incorrect thread cut. I will have to fix it by hand or use a tap as a gauge.The plastic bubble case keeps coming off one of the hinges.Pros: Price was low. Made In USA taps and Dies USA lasered on each tap and die and identification of thread pitch and size Very high quality. Plastic case keeps pieces in there place very well. PLastic case has a compartment in Lid. Metric on one side and SAE on the other. Have used tap and dies about 10 times, absolutely satisfied.

I bought this tap and die set beacause it had all the taps and dies necessaty for the vast majority of what i need. I was impressed with the quality of these taps and dies they cut very precise threads and they are made out of very tough alloy which will probably last longer than I will. I like the chart that comes with the set it is very good and will make using the right drill number easy. I am going to laminate these so they won't get dirty and oily. The only cons that I have with this set is that the taps are not stamped with the sizes the sizes are printed on them with some kind of ink and this will eventually wear off so its imperative to keep them in their respective places other wise you will have to measure them prior to each use. I would much prefer them to be stamped with the sizes but the box is clearly marked for each tap and die and if you put them back correctly after each use you'll get by. The only other complaint is that the box is quite large but it dose keep the taps and dies in place ok, Great set for the money very useable proffesional quality tools for any pro auto shop machine shop or hobby person. I would give 5 stars if the taps were stampped

For many years I had a cheap tap and die set. I only used it a few times. After breaking a few taps and getting rough threads from the dies, I finally got fed-up and ordered this Irwin tap and die set. It is fantastic and worlds above cheaper versions.The day I bought this set, I broke another tap from the cheap set and thought, "There must be better!" I found this Irwin set and liked it because of its positive reviews and that it had both imperial and metric for a reasonable price. The day it arrived, I tried the new tap in the hole where the old tap broke. The new tap cut like a dream and left beautiful threads. I wish I got this set years ago; it would have made the jobs much easier and I would have done more threading for other projects.However, there is only one negative: the case. The case is why I gave this review four stars instead of five. The plastic case does not hold the tools in place when carried because the molded plastic is too flixible and curved inwards leaving an inside gap. I had to insert two layers of 1/4" bubble wrap to keep the dies from falling out of their slots. If I were to do it again, I would have bought the metric and imperial sets that are sold seperatly so the tools will stay put in their cases.
