A newly designed support arm mounting block better secures the support arms to the laminate board surface for a stronger hinge and less flex, extending the life of the tool. FREE SHORT SQUARING ARM Now included with each of the Framer's Edge models is a flush cut non-scaled squaring arm for smaller jobs that don't require the full 27" squaring arm. bulky but good

I have used this cutter for years at my work (an art museum). We cut mat board, foam core, labels on foam core, Davey's board, etc. It had no trouble with large sized items (even 4x8 foot foam core) The blades had to be changed often, but this is normal with any cutter. I really liked the large clamp bar and guides. and was comfortable to use in a standing or sitting position.There are two things that could be improved. First is that the groove in the base. Ours was misaligned to the cutter blades. We would put down a mat to over, but inevitably it would cut through causing nicks, cuts, and shredding in the base. I wish the groove was simply an 1/8 inch wider.The second thing, which would be a deal breaker if I was purchasing for myself is that the strait cutter has a pin that must be pulled out ANY TIME you wan to tilt and move the mechanism which holds the blade. it is spring loaded and very tight - even after years of use. When cutting foam core you can't make the cut in one swipe or it will do horrible things to the foam. I and many co-workers developed blisters on our hands from constantly pulling out the pin in order to move the cutter without moving or damaging the thing being cut. The angle cutter was spring loaded to retract the blade and I couldn't understand why they didn't do the same for the strait cutter.Overall it is a very well made cutter and has withstood a lot of use and even some abuse. I would recommend this if you will be using a cutter everyday or on extremely large projects.
